He has zero to do with the issues we now find ourselves in, but he has acted with utter class.
He's had no money and is playing a number of players he knows aren't good enough (at least at the moment) without a word of complaint publicly.
He's just got on with his job and tried to get this team playing decent football with one hand tied behind his back, wearing lead boots and being made to wear a balaclava the wrong way around.
And then he hears about going into administration on TV like the rest of us and rather than whining or walking out he gets on with his job.
I really like what I'm seeing, especially when you consider he's in his first year of management and the second youngest boss in the entire football league.
He should have control of this team if/when he has money to spend, or at the very least until the end of this season.
If he does walk or get pushed, I for one will be bitterly disappointed.

We didn't get any more points because it was the last game of the season, we still got one.

And Rotherham didn't get any less because they conceded with two minutes to go, they still got one too.
It's utterly absurd to say we stayed up because of one piece of luck when there will have been times when bad luck cost us points throughout the season just like it did Rotherham.
We stayed up, Rooney was in charge, ipso facto, Rooney kept us up. Argument over.

You're right. It was fun. Damn sight more fun than now - even before the events of this past weekend.
@Bob The Badger has just mentioned Sheffield United away, that's one of the best atmosphere's I can ever remember.
I wonder how much my enjoyment was because I was still relatively young and found most things exciting being so naive - or because football was just so much better before Sky money ruined it.

it reminds me of the newcastle situation, really steve bruce is doing the exact same job as rafa benitez did yet one is hated and one is loved. I feel like if a more popular name amongst supporters would be in the managers seat we would all be praising him every week working under difficult circumstances.
i never wanted rooney in the first place but he completely won me over when he kept us up

I loved the time in the 3rd going to so many away games and filling the smaller grounds.
BUT, I think the season under Jim Smith when we went on was slightly better.
I put a bus on from Matlock to Sunderland and we filled it in hours, so we ended up taking two.
    Great days!
