It's more than a lot - it's everybody. I'm supposedly a "woke leftie" - You don't think I feel like I don't have a voice and I'm having to battle my way through a constant stream of stuff in the media I don't agree with?
No matter what your personal politics are - you're in that boat
I don't know why you can't just be honest and say that the reason you like the idea of GB News is because it's going to annoy the people you really can't stand. That's a perfectly valid reason - just be honest about it

It's like you've never watched Question Time

GB news main backers are Sir Paul Marshall, a hedge fund manager with a personal net worth of £630m and Christopher Chandler a New Zealander who heads a multi-billion dollar investment fund and has a net worth of $1.7b.
Its a fair bet that it will not be a particularly anti-establishment organisation.

I obviously won't be watching as it's against everything I believe in, but can understand why this has been created.
There will be a lot of people behind the scenes making a lot of money out of this and it's easy to pander to a group of people who believe the rest of the media is against them. It's easy to make content as you just end up arguing against every other news outlet.
I thought rolling out the guy that pestered Caroline Flack in the press, enough that it actually led to her suicide wasn't a good look. I say that, but I suppose that's the type of opinions they're going for - it's controversial and makes for soundbites.

Erm... They also hired Tom Harwood as their Political Correspondent. TOM HARWOOD. I don't even need to go into that.
Has Andrew Neil ever explained why he's in Epstein's Black Book?

    "Controlled opposition"
A controlled opposition is a protest movement that is actually being led by government agents. Nearly all governments in history have employed this technique to trick and subdue their adversaries. Notably Vladimir Lenin who said ''"The best way to control the opposition is to lead it ourselves."
Count Mirabeau was part of the controlled opposition, because although everyone thought he was supporting the revolution, in reality he supported the monarchy and was a personal friend of the king. He was a government agent.

Watched a bit on youtube of that Wooton guy talking about Covid. Felt very conspiracy nut rubbish, just ranting.
I thought Andrew Neil was usually pretty good on the BBC and is better than this. Maybe he just thinks he can make some big money quick.
I also read about when Sugar asked how they would make revenue without adverts. I guess a lot of companies will see if it does become toxic before risking adverts on there.

Watched a bit of it this evening. Not only has it got horrible production values, being told it’s anti establishment whilst hosting the likes of Alan sugar, neill and newspaper editors it’s of course ridiculous.

it also claims that ‘ordinary people don’t care what’s on Twitter’ but then starts talking about a social media campaign against James corden who was being accused of degenerating Asian cuisine. Then bizarrely linked it to wet markets in wuhan....
The populist right telling us over and over again how they’re silenced in the media even when their views are expressed daily in the most popular tabloids, on the radio and now on their own channel.
It has no sense of impartiality and from what I’ve seen so far has no interesting talking points either.
just the constant point being made that they’re anti-woke.

I was under the impression that 'Woke' is a term used to describe people and organisations that are pro-social justice and pro-racial justice.
Isn't that a good thing which we all ought to subscribe to?

BJ will say they always said that the 21 June was the earliest date for reopening everything.
What they'll do is throw a bone today about some additional stuff that can reopen to ease the pain . I reckon they'll permit weddings and maybe extend rule of 6 to rule of 10 or something.

Very pleased for Sterling to get an early goal in the tournament as his confidence looked shot before then. Could make all the difference. Walker was dreadful and I find it extraordinary Southgate plays him when we have such good full backs. I'd have Trippier right and Chilwell left, but even Trippier and Shaw would be a massive improvement.
Mount oozes class. Phillips typical dirty Leeds but their players are immune from bookings. We seemed to refuse to play down the right, always looking to come down the left-hand side. And, much like Derby, we don't really know how to play out from the back. There was one crazy moment in the second half when Pickford decided to take a long goal kick, but instead of the fullbacks short and wide, drawing the Croatian players on so the long kick would be a surprise and stretch our opponents, he sent them away upfield and condensed the game!
But a tremendous boost to win the first game and against such strong opponents. A decent performance with room for improvement, which is exactly what you want in the early stages of a long tournament.

@David made a pretty strong post on page one of this thread and the majority have been very careful, other than to occasionally criticise covid policies etc, to avoid bringing politics back into the thread.
I personally feel that in recent times especially, political opinions have been creeping back into this thread and whilst I don't personally agree with a lot of what this Government has been doing it is hard to lay all of the blame at their feet when the opposition have done an excellent job of alienating their base and empowering the Tories - but to discuss this would lead to posts being removed and as has been happening, a one-sided narrative starting to emerge.
Ultimately, this thread should be about covid.  With the vaccination program we're rapidly reaching (if not already reached) herd immunity and on the verge (give or take a few weeks) of returning to normal.  We should be celebrating the successes or discussing variants etc, anything else, I thought, was a banned topic of conversation - especially when, as discussed, actually having a conversation would result in posts being removed anyway.

To be fair the one person who reported most of the political posts has left, so I'm a bit more inclined to let the conversation continue. I tend to remove argumentative stuff, or the posts that get personal about other forum posters.
If it winds anyone up, I'd suggest they use the report button.

Props to Phillips who for the most part had a good game despite my and others reservations.
Thought Sterling was a bit hit and miss, lacked a bit of sharpness, but then so did several others.
We looked a little shaky in defence. A sharper team would maybe have got something against us, but on the whole, there were glimpses of something good, and a really positive start to the tournament.

It feels that comments on politics in general can be acceptable, like @Van der MoodHoovers sensible last post for example.
Boring generalisations like Islington dinner parties should be removed for being satire free.

Having an electable opposition is one of the most important checks and balances this country has.
I find it very surprising that some fail to see that and descend into crowing tribalism.
This is a comment on our political system in general rather than the mob that happen to be "in" at the moment.
Arguably, if Blair hadn't had such thumping majorities because of the utter paucity of opposition he'd have been more careful over Iraq for example.
    Same now.
