Liam for style of play? I found it largely ponderous, bordering on Cocu ball which for the most part was boring. Too much possession and not enough real penetration. I for one am looking forward to quicker, exciting football.

I keep reading that we need stability. I also keep reading that a 4 year deal is risky. 
To me, it looks like David Clowes has taken time to decide exactly what needs to be done and has moved decisively to achieve it. Whether it's the right decision, only time will. If Warne turns out to be a great manager, we will be brilliantly stable. If not, then hopefully Clowes will be the one footing the bill...unlike a certain business ambassador.

I was told on Saturday that Rosenior was off to Brighton as coach or assistant manager. I took it with a huge pinch of salt at the time. 
In the same conversation, I was also told that David Clowes is about to sell to Mike Ashley. I also didn't take that seriously. 
Looks like I forgot the golden rule - we're Derby County, so the normal rules of probability just don't apply.

Having listened to the Rotherham people talk about Warne, he sounds like Nigel Clough.
If that's true, this all makes perfect sense. David Clowes wants stability and to build the club sustainably. The key to that is to get the right manager who will make decisions for the long term. 
I think Liam would also fall into that category, the difference is that Warne has a track record and Liam doesn't, so it's more likely that Warne will get the decisions right. I suspect that Clowes sees this appointment as a long term one.
Of course, nothing is ever guaranteed, but with this context, the decision appears logical.

I find some of the complaints about Warne, and the defences of Rosenior a little conflicting.
On the one hand, the football we play isn’t working because we don’t have good enough players to pass their way through teams at this level.
At the same time, Warne won’t work because we play neat, passing football. It’s one or the other really, we have a good squad so what kind of football are we well suited to?
For what it’s worth, there is a difference between being direct and playing hoofball. Being direct just means getting the ball forward quickly. We have pace out wide, big strikers and midfielders who can pass. Those together add up pretty well for direct football.
It’s a gamble, but I think it’s less of a gamble than keeping LR if we really want promotion this year. A lot of work was done in the summer but that would’ve happened whatever the manager. Would we have ended up with a vastly different squad if Warne joined at the start of the summer? I doubt it. We had a limited pool of players we could go for under our current restrictions, so I don’t think the squad being largely built by a different manager will be a massive issue.
If we do play less attractive football but spend less time trapped in the third tier, then that’s good with me.
Edit: For what it’s worth, I’ve just checked at Rotherham scored 70 goals last season in League 1, averaging 1.5 a game. We are currently scoring 1.0 goals a game. We should technically be more dangerous in the final third, if we’re going on which style yields more goals.

I am very far from a football purist. Indeed, I struggle with the idea that possession based tedium is good football whilst direct, attacking tactics are some kind of monstrosity. 
But I don't get the argument that a manager only plays direct football through lack of resources and will miraculously turn into Asene Wenger with better quality players. Surely, a manager has a basic philosophy which has brought them to the point where a 'bigger' (no slight at Rotherham - my Dad had a season there and I've always had a soft spot for them) club targets them? What makes anyone think that Warne would be successful if he manages in a completely different way? 
Nigel Pearson puts his failure here down to trying not to change things too much and ending up being Pearson lite...which was a disaster for everyone. If Warne joins, he needs to be his own man, even if the purists object to some actual excitement.

Maybe the thinking is that Rosenior's style is not what we're aiming for so replacing him before it is entrenched is essential. It's a new squad and it could be that Warne's is the new Derby County style and subsequent managers will play that way.

It's been a steady start to the season, from a ludicrously difficult position. Regardless of style, Liam has done pretty well up to now.

I agree with you and it also has absolutely nothing to do with me having to be in Bournemouth next weekend for a yearly family gathering and having no choice in missing the match at all.
