Mendez-Laing won’t be playing wide right. That position doesn’t exist when we play with wing backs.

Not sure why everyone thinks Washington has been signed to solve our goal problems.

He’s said in his interview his role is to get behind and stretch defenses, he even admits goal scoring is something he is working on.

if he can see it, I’m sure Warne is going to be well aware is not going to be our 20 goal striker. Given we’ve spent nothing on fees so far, and will likely get a decent amount in for Knight, I’m pretty certain PW has a goal scoring striker in mind who will likely cost a decent fee.

I wish there was a thread on here stating the facts about McClaren leaving Derby that first time. And the second time to give Rowett time to get to know the squad was an equally daft decision by Morris.

Here's Paul Simpson, assistant manager at the time:
“There’s an opportunity and we could go to Newcastle” but I told him I didn’t want to go. He asked for my opinion and I said, “You have to turn it down. This is where we need to stay.” He thought about it for a while and said, “I’m going to turn it down, as long as we’re able to commit ourselves for the next three years to finish this job.” I was willing to sign another contact.
‘I know for a fact that Steve turned Newcastle down. I said to Steve, “Look, I’m absolutely knackered. I want to go away with my wife for a couple of days, can I do it?” and he said, “Yeah, go and have some days in Spain.” So, he rang me on the Wednesday night and asked me when I was coming back, which was the next day. “Right, I think I’m getting the sack. I need you to come back.” He turned Newcastle down and then he got the sack.
‘We were left in a situation with nothing. Even when it got to the point that I was still employed, he said to me that Newcastle had come in for him again. When he got the job, he wanted me to come as his assistant and I said, “No. I’m not coming.” I told him I would only go if I got the sack at Derby. I wasn’t leaving Derby.’
Simpson wasn’t made to wait long before returning McClaren’s call.

I'd much rather have loyal players. Too long I've seen people use this club and jump ship at the first sign of greener grass, only to fall flat on their face, but sometimes at our expense.
Stevie Mac did it with Newcastle, Lampard with Chelsea, Rooney after saying he would stay, a list of players too.
IMO Bielik is a great championship player. When fully fit, by far the best cdm in the league. But after we shelled out a hell of a lot of money for his services.. (regardless of whether he has control over that or not) he spent alot of the time here on the physio table... we get relegated, and he holds us to ransom to get a swift exit.
If a plumber turned up to your house, did a horrendous job and charged you a fortune, you'd expect them to fix it.
I just expected more from Bielik as a person rather than a player, but as a player on his day, agreed he is quality. But he could of helped us when we needed him most.

Has he not f**ked off yet?
Bored of seeing his name now. Spent most of the time on our physio table whilst we paid his wage. He's got zero interest in playing for the club when in reality, we need him most, and he has the cheek to say he wants to move to the championship to play a higher standard of football (for sod all in comparison to what we paid for him) when we also wanted to play at a higher standard... but again, due to him being glued to the physio table, we didn't get what we wanted out of him... it happens like that sometimes. But to not want to help a club out that has done all the above for you, you can pack your bags and f*** off as far as I'm concerned you selfish bag of spuds.
    Rant over.

An interesting article(s) regarding the transfer fee that differs from the [undisclosed] £8m we considered it to be. Not so says The Telegraph and this website, it's higher. Performance-related clauses could add another £2m. Playing in the World Cup in Qatar was probably one of those triggers. I think he made his international debut while with us and is now nearing 100 appearances. Knowing how bad we are at these things, there is probably a sell-on clause that Arsenal also get.

I think some aren't factoring in his age. He was a solid performer for us and should imho only get better. He's absolutely worth a punt on a free. I'd have had him back without a doubt and it sounds like our gaffer was of the same thinking.

I remember a fair portion of fans on here in favour of the club going bust and starting in the lower divisions (I wasn't one of them), but except for paying a huge amount of money for our club and I am not a Clowes fan yet, I need persuading. I never was of the Americans either, nor Webb, or Gadsby. I was sad to see Rosenior pushed, and Wassall too, bemused by both decisions that have never been communicated to fans. I am so disappointed to see McGoldrick leave. I am reading into it that we would not offer him a two-year contact.
Not finding a sponsor and that awful shirt design too didn't thrill me. The January transfer window could not have been more disappointing. Money-wise David Clowes's personal wealth is around £250m, family-wise considerably more – on par with Gibson at Boro – so I will be disappointed if we don't spend something, a few bob, and show ambition to get out of this league asap. I'm hoping that to attract Warne he gave him promises that the cheque book would be dusted off. It's ages since we paid a fee for a player and that was £11,000 to Dungannon Swifts.

Just because he's about to turn 30?
He may not repeat the scoring feats of the last two seasons at his next club, but to state that he's on a downward trajectory when he's just had the 2 best seasons of his career and has earned himself a move to a bigger club...?
    Players develop at different rates.
Steve Howard was 30 when we signed him for £1m, didn't do too badly!
Sheff Utd bought Billy Sharpe when he was 6 months off 30.

I'd have been happy if he could have scored 15 goals next season – that would have been a big ask. The downside was his home-to-away ratio, I think it ended up something like 20/5. Sad there is no farewell, just the Wednesday game as an au revoir to several, the bitter taste that left.
So far, so bad, Curtis Davies released, McGoldrick choosing Notts over us, Roberts off to Bristol, Knight having many suitors. I really don't want to read about Warne selling the club to potential players, what a great guy he is, that you get a free mug. That never worked in the last transfer window.
