LeedsRam1999 reacted to Miggins in Matchday Thread - Derby County vs West Bromwich Albion (23/08 19:45)

LeedsRam1999 got a reaction from Caerphilly Ram in Matchday Thread - Fleetwood Town v Derby County (20/08 15:00)
Knight is a very solid right back and I feel he suits our style of football there too.
There is a lot of negativity about our performance against Shrews. We were much the better team and on another night we score those 2 first half chances. That would allow us to run away with it.
We look solid at the back and it’s only a matter of time before we whack someone for 5 or 6.

Stearman can’t really move though
For an indication on how little he is trusted for a vaguely similar role, when we went to a back 3 v Barnsley, Forsyth played on the right hand side over Stearman despite being left footed.
Personally I think at the moment Knight is doing a very good job and while it may not get the best out of his skill set, the question is where he fits into a midfield that is already a bit bloated. In possession he is effectively playing as a central midfielder anyway.
In a way you could almost reframe the issue - if you were told Knight had come through the academy as a natural right back, would you see his performances this season and say “that’s a central midfielder”?
As an example, in one season Matty Cash went from a fairly middling utility midfielder to a £15m right back as a result of being moved there. He’s now an international. I think they have similar skill sets in that they are both very good athletes and intelligent footballers, but unlikely to ever be a really.
(sorry ended up being a much more general point than a reply to your post)

Wildsmith
Knight Stearman Cashin Fozzy
Bird Smith
NML Hourihane Dobbin
Collins
Fozzy in as then we have one fullback coming in to help the midfield. His crosses are wicked at times and that will suit Collins and NML on the back stick.
Smith over Sibley as it allowed us to control the game. Bring on Sibley on 50/55 if we aren’t creating anything. I think it’s important to ride the first 20/25 mins away from home to quieten the home fans, Smith allowed us to do this as he always was there to sweep up the counter attacks.
Dobbin in as he looked really positive and direct when he came on. Had some flashes of brilliance. Him being there and cutting inside will allowed Fozzy to get round him when the time comes.

LeedsRam1999 reacted to MaltRam in Second Half Performances
Come on folks. 4 games, three wins, spells of dominance in all the games, resilience in spades, clear plan of how we want to play...I'm pretty chuffed, tbh. Can't expect sides to roll over. We'll improve with time and better bench options.

I really don't want to play Knight right back at all. But he won't play Smith there.
And from what I'm reading from people who went to Mansfield, Oduroh isn't ready yet.
Sibley has come off the bench twice and had an impact plus he's played well in the game yesterday so I'd imagine he's earnt a start.
Wildsmith
Knight. Davies. Cashin. Roberts
Bird
Hourihane Sibley
NML. Collins. Barkhuizen
Derby 3-0.
Collins will score twice

LeedsRam1999 reacted to Ghost of Clough in Matchday Thread - Derby County v Barnsley (13/08 15:00)
After a successful trip to Mansfield, we return to League 1 football against a Barnsley side who have won just 1 away game since April 2021.
My predicted lineup:
Wildsmith
Davies Cashin
Knight Bird Hourihane Roberts
Mendez-Laing Sibley Barkhuizen
Collins
Subs: Loach, Oduroh, Forsyth, Tommo, Smith, Dobbin, McGoldrick

LeedsRam1999 reacted to Big Trav in Martyn Waghorn To Return (He isn't)
Don’t know if This is good to be honest. An attacker that’s scored 6 goals in the last 3 seasons. Got slower, still can’t trap a ball and in general doesn’t look half the player he was. Then again Waggy will give 100% and he was my favourite player in that Lampard season. I’m torn

LeedsRam1999 reacted to Sparkle in Martyn Waghorn To Return (He isn't)
No idea if this is true or not but our market are free transfers and loans and ideally with players that can play more than one position
Waghorn is capable of stepping in at centre forward and can play wide right and for all the misses in front of goal his set piece delivery can be excellent more often than not - obviously this would be a short term signing if it happens and has to be affordable

LeedsRam1999 reacted to Jubbs in Matchday Thread - Charlton Athletic v Derby County (06/08 15:00)
Going off their first game, this was Charlton's "zones of control"
Blue = In Charlton's control >55%
Grey = Contested 45%-55%
Red = In Accrington's control, so <45% control
They lacked control of the ball in the central areas, which is where we win games. If Bird/Hourihane/Smith are able to get on the ball in the middle of the pitch, like Accrington's midfielders were able to, we'll win
Charlton have a high PPDA (passes allowed per defensive action). Although high, they only forced 3 high turnovers, so I don't think they press well.
We typically used to struggle against teams who press high, however I think more recently we've had success against high pressing teams, the likes of Fulham, Bournemouth, West Brom and Sheff Utd last season.
I think we'll be able to break their press easily and have a lot of success through the middle. (or I could be completely wrong and look stupid)

LeedsRam1999 reacted to Ellafella in The new era has begun
Inspirational. For every negative there is a positive & the positive is what is emerging now. If the fans can maintain their warmth & support whilst the squad forms and grows, it can become a springboard to an upward curve. I myself am just content with a Club that’s stable and growing again.

LeedsRam1999 reacted to Dave Mackay Ate My Hamster in The big reset.
Strangely, now we've been saved by St. David of Clowes, I'm really pleased, in the bigger picture, that we are now in Division 1.
Back to old school football. Back to being a big fish in a small pond.
We tried, under Mel to turn up at the casino that was the Championship with a big F off stack of chips to intimidate other players at the table. Spent fast and loose - and lost.
We needed a total reset and we got one. I can't lie, it's hurt. Being threatened with extinction was a very real prospect.
Now we've cleared the football cache and cookies, we're back to a fresh start.
I'm still haunted by the memory of all that money we wazzed up the wall. Even the least of the excesses was Anya. £4m and and £20k a week over 4 years, ergo £8m over 4 years. There were 4 or 5 others that cost £10m+ in transfer fees and salaries over 4 year contracts.
£60m minimum wazzed up the wall on 5 or 6 players, not to mention our merry go round of managers that resulted in the amount of debt that threatened our very existence. Covid didn't help, but the aforementioned was the real problem.
Certain individuals that had Mel's ear and were administrators at our club were also abusing their parallel self-interests as agents to sell us pup after pup.
Now we're back to football reality. It's amazing what team we've managed to piece together on frees and modest wages.
Loving our new reality. We can attract decent players at this level, where if we spend within our means, which is significantly above most of our competitors, we can perform well at this level.
If we continue in this manner, we can grow organically.
What's not to love? A fantastic academy that should finance our rebirth. 30,000+ crowds, that again should finance our rebirth and perversely the EFL reining us back to a financial plan that we absolutely NEEDED. Didn't want, but definitely needed.
Oh and being rescued by the 'quiet man of football' - DC.
What a time to be alive! I'm falling back in love with football again.
The only way is up...

Fair play. Not willing to sign for a league 1 youth team when he can play first team football in the same league.

LeedsRam1999 reacted to Crewton in Jason Knight
If I was to take a "moral" position, I'd say that in Derby's case the Unsecured Creditors should receive every penny that they are owed and HMRC should take less as a result. Why? Because if anyone can take a multi-million pound hit without going bust, or even blinking, it's the Treasury. Without getting political, Billions have been wasted during the pandemic alone and mobs haven't descended on Downing Street. The NHS and other public services aren't going short because Derby County didn't pay their bills, they're going short because the Government has decided to spend it elsewhere. If £35Bn doesn't outrage the taxpayer, why would £35m?
So come on HMRC, give some of what Mr Clowes is giving you to those creditors who may be left short. You know it makes sense ?
