If it’s Waghorn or Dobbin I’d go for Dobbin.
His pace and trickery scares defenders. If he can learn the composure to even make a simple pass after beating a man, we’ll create so many chances.
If he learns how to shoot we won’t keep him long!

It’s true, someone’s got to replace Lewis Dobbin in that regard

The one good thing he did in a Derby shirt

He’s certainly the greatest left back we’ve had in my time watching - partly because he’s pretty much the only LB we’ve had! Remarkable longevity really, I was watching Craig Forsyth play when I was 13!
No-one else really come close. Most the other left backs we’ve had (Malone, Olsson etc) have all been largely s****.

No, basically. Said it before, it’s a complete waste of his main attributes. You want Mendez-Laing using his pace and power to drive into space out wide, not stuck trying to link play up front. He doesn’t have the close control and awareness to do that role successfully.
Mendez-Laing is a winger, pure and simple. So I’m really not sure where he fits into our 3-5-2 system sadly. Irrespective, we need to sign another striker, because Collins and Washington as our only options doesn’t inspire confidence.

Ah yeah, agree, the stage Cole was at when he played for us his ability was well and truly waning.

Means you did get to see arguably England’s greatest ever left back in a Rams shirt though, despite his advanced years

Outstanding first half that. Much, much more like it. Particularly Bird, who is playing like a man possessed in the more advanced role.
Really impressive stuff, let’s hope we can keep this up - some lovely interplay in the final third, which we haven’t seen in pre season so far.

Very unexpected appointment. Can’t say I’m a huge fan of the whole player/coach thing as a whole - think you should focus on one or the other (remember Rooney….). Also takes up a place in the U21 team that an actual young prospect could fill.
That said, I do like Bradley Johnson. Thought he was harshly treated by our fans because of his vastly inflated price tag. He actually did a lot for the club in his 4 years here - always gave his all on the pitch and seemed to genuinely love the club. If he can translate that passion and work rate to the young players then it can only be a good thing. Welcome home Bradley!

Perhaps, but it does still take someone’s place. Depends how much he plays I guess.
