We've got the best prospects on the bench so i'd expect we'll see them come on fairly early in the second half. It can be a risk to throw them in at the deep end with how we're playing at the moment.

Great signing. Can play all across the backline although is usually on the right side. Extremely physical, fast, strong, and good defensively. From what I gather he's not great going forward but hopefully this means we can push NML or Ward into a position further up the pitch.
Honestly he's about as good as it get's really in the free agent market at this stage in the season, very happy with this.

Actually a pretty positive team, on paper at least. Hopefully some of the main players that aren’t in the squad are just being rested because I wouldn’t want to watch us play at the moment with *less* quality in the side.

When the club was against the wall and we had a siege mentality it was less about the football and more about solidarity, making a point. Us against the world.
Now things have calmed down off the pitch the fans need to see something on the pitch to get behind. The style of football is currently absolutely dreadful and it saps the enthusiasm from the crowd. It's not hard to get Pride Park going, but Warne and this team are finding a way to make it hard.

It hasn't "been awful for years". We are only 1 point off being a bottom half L1 side. Suggesting there are unrealistic expectations and arrogance due to expecting much better in this division is ludicrous.
I felt the atmosphere was pretty good with Lampard and Cocu as managers, although it did start to fizzle out a bit after the initial excitement of Cocu as manager wore off. It was exceptional when in administration under Rooney, and that carried through to 22/23 under Rosenior, then gradually got worse under Warne.
Lampard, Rooney and Rosenior understood the importance of having a fantastic relationship with the fans, creating a united bond throughout the whole club. It is when that bond is greatest when the atmosphere is also at its best. Another factor is having sustained periods of possession. It allows the fans to also have a sustained period of backing the team. A break down in possession, has the affect of a breakdown in the atmosphere.

I think the music before the game should be singalong classics like Sweet Caroline and Hey Jude.
Get everyone in the habit of singing before the match starts.

The atmoshpere is down to the football. There is virtually nothing to cheer or get excited about. If we were consistantly playing good exciting atacking football the crowd noise would be fantastic.

Constant deafening PA system before match and half time doesnt help build anything gradually ahead of match. Poem, steve bloomer then we're expected to be singing our hearts out. There is nothing to make fans want to get to seats early (but we do as just like to be in there)

Also a totally personal peeve but when the announcer man bossily says to get behind the Rams always think what do you think I've given up a huge amount of money and my Saturday from 10.30 to 8 to do! Really annoys me

Was the 'unrealistic expectation' put down to the fact we have a manager who cannot produce either exciting and/or winning football? Fan arrogance is nonsense, we have the resources and the support to do really well in this league, but aren't. We were relegated not because we lost too many games but because of points deductions. Footballing wise we do not belong in this league. But here we are.

It sucks because the football sucks. I've been to 3 home league games this season and every time there has been a scintilla of excitement and/or hope for a decent result, it's led to a good atmosphere. At Portsmouth the few times we did get forward, i thought it was obvious the fans were almost frothing at the mouth.

I thought on Saturday it was quiet after the first few minutes. Good welcome back after the break, then quiet again.
The play isn’t inspiring and the booze effect wears off.
Noise was great when we scored. I think what I’m saying is that the crowd is with the team but needs a bit of excitement from on the pitch too. It’s a symbiotic relationship.

I don't think it's really results that are driving this though, it's performances.  I suspect a fair few people were of the mind that we had 2 clear weeks to work on stuff, try get some pattern of play into place or something, and then we served up a performance that was as flat and disjointed as anything we've seen so far.  If people can see signs of things getting better they'll get behind the team, but there's just nothing, and a lucky 3 points last weekend, or against Bolton wouldn't have changed that for many (IMO anyway).

Rosenior had to build a squad almost literally from nothing, working under as many (and probably many more) restrictions than Warne.
He was then given fewer than 10 league games to get these players working as a cohesive squad, playing a fairly technical brand of football.
It wasn't like we lost every game. It wasn't like there weren't some very positive signs.
I think it was way too soon to say his brand of football would have proven ineffective for us, given more time and probably more resource.

I admit that I was fully behind PW's appointment, especially on the back of 3 promotions from League One with that small club from South Yorkshire, but I'm now firmly in the 'we need to see something soon or things have to change' camp.
I realise we are still under some transfer restrictions, being those of the EFL, or those applied by David Clowes in trying to run the club sustainably, but as has been said many times by others, PW has been in charge for 50 odd games now, he has assessed our squad, brought in a lot of his own players, and still there appear little signs of improvement. It can certainly be argued we've gone backwards.
My biggest worry now is if we keep PW for another couple of transfer windows - potentially with less restrictions, might we have an even bigger rebuild if the axe were to fall on his reign?
Or do we get somebody else in before the next transfer window, somebody who is more adept at working with the players available and willing to play to the players' strengths, rather than trying to shoehorn players into unfamiliar roles in an unfamiliar playing system. I honestly think there is a decent amount of talent at the club, certainly enough, with the right manager, to be challenging for the top 6.
I'm happy to give PW until the end of October, but I'm hoping that unless there is a significant improvement, DC is putting together a plan B.

Clowes would have to weigh up the immediate cost of sacking Warne and his team vs the potential future financial impact on not winning promotion and the lack in development of our academy players.

    Currently after 7 games:
xG for from open play: 12th in the league with 5.62.
xG for from set pieces: 8th in the league with 2.51.
xG against from open play: 7th most conceded with 6.61.
xG against from set pieces: 7th most conceded with 2.52.
    Some other stats:
4 build up attacks (The number of open play sequences that contains 10 or more passes and either ends in a shot or has at least one touch in the box) which is the 3rd worst.
9 direct attacks (The number of open play sequences that starts just inside the team's own half and has at least 50% of movement towards the opposition's goal and ends in a shot or a touch in the opposition box.) which is 12th.
We barely have any control on the pitch:

I like the polls,  because we can only vote once in each one. Whereas some posters want to tell us a hundred times on each thread why PW should stay/go, they still only get one vote in the poll.
It's the most accurate reflection of where the feeling of the broader membership of the forum is on a particular issue at any point in time.
I haven't changed my vote between the polls so far.

Rosenior was in his first managerial job, whereby you could see a plan formulating albeit often slowly. He liked a structured team, passing into feet, testing the opposition defence’s concentration. We lacked a cutting edge but we used to suffocate teams and play with the ball. Warne came in with a different plan, whilst I could see the logic and him being successful at this level, we’ve surrendered so much to the point where we’ve lost so much of what made us good and not really gained too much on the other side.
If you ask me in hindsight, it’s an absolute landslide who I would prefer between Warne and Rosenior - I want to see Derby play football, ultimately. I also find Warne infuriatingly naive. Game management is terrible - but it’s engrained in his philosophy of moving the ball quickly and not allowing the other team to settle. We just aren’t able to slow down the tempo and move it back and sideways when we need to, so everything is just erratic. I’m not a fan. I get the theory behind it, but there’s too many variables we can’t control. My biggest irritation from it all is that there isn’t an emphasis on player development and that’s why I would be willing to call an end to his management of this club if I was Clowes. It’s obviously his call, but if that’s my money on the table then I would want a better process in place for the first team squad.

This is exactly what I thought on Saturday looking around the ground. This should have been a sell out but people are starting to vote with their feet. I was in one of the hospitality sections and after half time the majority of seats around me were empty; the punters preferred to stay inside with the blinds drawn!

The fans will be going somewhere at that’s not to Pride Park or away matches. Just under 28K on Saturday including a sold out away section of more than 3K. Portsmouth is a plum fixture too, a proper club. I reckon we have already lost 2-3 K ‘floating’ supporters. Warne will get a stay of execution because we have a run of fixtures against minnow teams now so will probably get some results. Also players like Bird coming back. But it won’t last. It’s not improving and it looks very like the players don’t really want to play for him to me
