It does if you add that key metric - unforced personal errors costing goals 2 -0

We are a “Warne work in progress” for sure but, in a nutshell, NML played centrally will start to bang the goals in, fed from the apex of Midfield by mercurial through balls threaded through the eye of the defence-piercing needle that is Max Bird’s left peg. Joe Ward will find Collins’s forehead with metronomic periodicity. Once the new left-siders are fit (Elder, mainly) better balance will be achieved, principally benefiting Louis  Sibley who will re-emerge as the destroying angel reincarnate. Result: 15 games in the Derby team will be a finely-tuned Rolls-Royce produced Merlin engine, with principal pilot Sonny Bradley in the cockpit smashing through with aerial power to wreak occasional havoc on opponent defenders. Curtis “Horatio” Nelson will observe from the poop deck and also fire the odd musket ball goal-ward. By Christmas/New Year, HMS Derby County will be sailing in clear blue waters, cutting through the waves inexorably toward Championship-landia, observed with dignified pride from the West, by Admiral Clowes. The good ship Derby will reach land 2 weeks ahead of schedule.

So, hoist your mainbrace, chocs away, and standby for another memorable season.

ps Connor Washington will also become a cult.

Hey all - we've done ANOTHER season preview pod - this time roping in no less than 4 rival fans onto the same recording to look ahead to the League One campaign.

With the season upon us, Richard Cutcher chaired a podcast panel with four other opposition fans from around the division, to gauge the mood as the Rams' rivals rate their own promotion chances, as well as who they're tipping to be the league's top goalscorer, which manager is under the most pressure... and who'll finish in the top two.

We were joined by James Jarvis from the 'Lion of Vienna' Bolton Wanderers podcast, Tracey Martin from Barnsley's 'Red All Over', Ben Thomas from 'The Tilehurst End' Reading FC pod, and broadcaster Jake Smith, from Portsmouth's Express FM, for the Pompey perspective.

Possibly he thinks they were a bit 'rag tag'? Having been through so much, having young kids and old pro's who almost felt they were doing us a favour by sticking around through all the rubbish (when others left). Plus we had the Lawrence/Keogh stuff, Rooney undermining the manager...just constant uncertainty and changes in management over a long period.
Maybe in his head he wants stability, professionalism, organisation, long term planning not lurching from one disaster to another. He isn't so much bemoaning the players as seeing the need for structure and a stable identity they can adhere to and have pride in.

Perhaps “entitled” was strong on my part.
I’ve quoted the above points from your post from this morning, you say you’re asking if what he said in his interview was the truth or not. Earlier today I provided the quote from the interview in which Clowes stated he had set Paul Warne a budget that he (Clowes) believes is a good budget to get promotion from this league, he also added a caveat that there are no guarantees. So what potential mis-truth are you suggesting he’s said? I don’t get it. There’s nothing in what he said that’s potentially a lie, one part of it is a statement (he’s set a budget) the other part is his opinion (he thinks it’s a budget for promotion). He didn’t say “the budget is x amount” and now we’ve found out it’s not that. He didn’t say “we’ll spend hundreds of thousands on fees”. He didn’t say “we’ll spend any money raised from player sales in new transfer fees”.
Warne has in subsequent interviews explained that there is room left in the budget to sign players, and he thinks he’ll get better value by using the room left in the budget on wages rather than transfer fees.
It is disappointing that we’re not signing players for fees, I’d love it if we’d taken a punt on Lee Bonis even though I haven’t seen him play, just that idea of buying a rough diamond and potentially turning a profit on him would be great…but the situation we’re still in as a club appears to be one of sensible restraint, either through choice or due to the business plan.
From what’s been said it seems clear to me  there is an allocated pot of money that is to be used to strengthen the squad, that pot can likely be used for transfer fees, agent fees, signing on fees, and wages. Warne and Pearce and the recruitment bloke have to work out how to get the best value from the pot of money and they’re choosing what they think is best.
The bit I interpreted as you saying fans are entitled to know is where you said it would be nice for them to tell us what the money is being spent on. We’ll get info from supporters group forums, the accounts will show the figures when they’re released, Warne has seemingly been open and transparent in his recent interviews about the budgets…we get to know a fair bit I think. What we don’t know is how much we’ve paid out in wages to secure some of the new players, perhaps we’ve offered them good terms to secure them?
At the end of the day it’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it, I personally didn’t agree with your questioning the honesty of Clowes based on that interview as I don’t see where the lie is so tried to express that.

Wouldn’t be a free. The money would have to be more than we would get at a tribunal - like Knight money was.

I’m not saying they’ve had better careers, that wasn’t the point you originally made. You said our signings are “much more league one than championship” which in my opinion is another nonsense generalisation on your part.
Bradley and Nelson have spent 4 years playing championship football and captaining sides at that level, they must have something about them that multiple football managers have seen so I’ll trust their judgement over yours. They’re also younger than Stearman, Chester and Davies so much closer to their peak years.
Elder was a key figure in the dressing room at Hull and contributed to their promotion from league one and establishing themselves back in the championship.

You’ve also misremembered or reinvented last summer. We only had 5 contracted players at the point the club was saved, the club then re-signed those willing to stay and signed other players still available having started the recruitment process later than all other sides. A good, but imbalanced squad was put together lacking depth and with an age disparity present between the younger and senior pros. There’s now more balance, less of an age difference within the squad, and depth in some areas with an intent to address the depth we still need. It simply is not the disastrous situation you seem repeatedly keen to invent.

If we are in for Rhodes and he was quibbling for two weeks over a couple of thousand a week after 10 years of averaging top dollar championship wages, he's probably not the guy for the job.  Leave him on Huddersfield's bench in that case and move along

Sibley is frustrating, but he can do things other players can't.  There's no reason he can't get into double figures for goals if he plays regularly as a number ten.  A young player in their last year of a contract worries me though - if it's a choice of sell him now for a decent amount or one more season then go on a free, I would sell him.  It's all down to the £££ though.

I don't like Bird as a holding midfielder - too many games seemed to pass him by when he was playing there last season.  Smith or Rooney would be better for me.  Although I'm not even sure we need a holding midfielder for most matches this season if Cash, Bradley and Nelson are playing.  3,4,3 seems best.  There are quite a few different ways of setting up the front three already and hopefully there'll be a couple more players to throw into the mix soon.  Happy days.
