  1. Not so much a bizarre purchase but one I've been thinking about for a while... a 49' super ultrawide curved monitor - its a thing of beauty!  I can have soooo many windows open at the same time and gaming is absolutely fantastic ?

    Bizarre purchases might be the Star Wars funko figures I've started collecting - got Kylo Ren, The Emperor, The Mandalorian and IG-11 so far.  Dunno why, I just find them a fun thing to have on my desk!

    That's a real blast from the past. I remember playing Galaxies when it first came out and rp-ing an intergalactic hairdresser. Didn't they ruin the game with updates?

    The CU and NGE (2 controversial updates) decimated the player base, by the time it got shut down however the new Devs that were bought in to fix it actually turned it into a very good game and population wise it was doing okay, certainly better than it had been doing years earlier - it was closed purely due to SWTOR releasing.

    You can find 2 very good, well populated emulators out there; SWGEMU is the pre-CU version (the original game) and SWG Legends (the game as it was when it shut).  I personally play on both but spend the vast majority of my time on Legends - great community of die hard Star Wars and Star Wars Galaxies nerds ?

  3. As a young boy Star Wars was the first movie my Dad took me to see at the cinema, before that (and youngun's won't realise this) all you had were 3 tv channels and maybe a couple of hours a day of kids tv at home, quite often in black and white only!  Now-a-days you can get entertainment 24/7 whatever your age.

    Coming out of the cinema having witnessed quite possibly the greatest thing I'd ever seen at that age I was hooked for life.  I think a large problem with some of the later movies is that good sci-fi is common place these days and the core audience for Star Wars has always been the younger generation - we just got old and judge it through more cynical eyes.

    I still enjoy Star Wars, even the lesser films.  I've read countless books, watched all the animated series and to this day continue to play Star Wars Galaxies (an online MMO that officially shut down years ago!)

    Call me a nerd if you want, but I'm a proud Star Wars nerd ?

    Know that one. My puppy is getting to the point where I'm going to have to do it (well get the wife to, she used to be a hairdresser so same difference ?

    Hehe good luck with that.  Mine thinks its a game everytime we get the brush out, he's a bloody nightmare lol, yet they tell me he sits perfectly still and is very well behaved when he goes to be clipped.  I might wait until he's asleep and quickly do a leg at a time ?

    The thought of having to eat this little champ when there’s no food left is already upsetting me ?

    WTF?!?  Gimme my dog back!

    This pic is about 18 months old now when he was still a puppy after we'd taken him for his first haircut. I'd post a more recent one but we never remember to take them and he's a month overdue a cut now due to the lockdown and starting to look very scruffy lol.  He's pretty much identical to yours with the white paws, beard and eyebrows etc - and the white is more pronounced now-a-days compared to when the pic was taken.

    Glad to hear your dog seems to be getting better. I saw someone else on Twitter say that his dog had come down with it as well. Hopefully a speedy recovery.

    He's a lot happier this morning, still not eating as he should but we've just got back from doing half of his normal walk this morning - the first time we've been out (other than to the vets) since Monday and he seemed back to his normal self ?

    I've had several dogs over the past 20-25 years and fortunately this is the first time I've had one thats been poorly (other than old age related) and it was horrible to see, I said to my 12yo that in many ways I would have much rather it had been him!

    You can explain whats wrong to a human and how to keep yourself hydrated etc, Schnapps (my dog) just lay there looking very sorry for himself and took a turn for the worse in the space of a couple of hours before we took him to the vets and was put on a drip.

    Ah well, alls well that ends well.

  7. Saw this a few weeks on the Derby Telegraph website a few weeks ago;

    https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/burton/dogs-gastroenteritis-sick-burton-swadlincote-2414259

    Didn't think much of it until this week when my dog went down with it ?

    We've been back and forth to the Vets over the past 5 days for various injections and pills and the poor soul spent a day there on a drip as he was getting really dehydrated - seems to be a lot perkier today though and the sickness and diarrhea have finally stopped.

    Would have cost over £500, fortunately we have insurance and 'only' need to pay the £85 excess.

    What I do need help with is carbs. How the hell do you replace carbs with anything remotely nice? I eat and lot of fish and chicken anyway but what the hell do you put with it to replace potatoes, pasta and rice etc? Has anyone manages to replace carbs successfully?

    I've just started my post Christmas diet... The potato diet - nothing but potatoes for 2 weeks ?

    Anyway, check out this link, if you cook potatoes then allow them to cool down a lot of the sugar turns to resistant starch.  You can then reheat them and eat them like normal;

    Does anyone play Fortnite? I don't but one of my kids has decided it's better than real life. I was trying to find a fortnite based Christmas gift stocking filler  that he can use in the game - like can I buy him a nuclear weapon or something? Or a tank? I've seen some kind of bundle things you can buy that include skins and weapons I think - but I want to buy him summat cool. Is this a stupid question? I'm really old.

    The only things you can buy ingame are cosmetics, different looks for your character, axe, backpack, weapons etc.  If you want to buy him them you need to buy them from the ingame store.  They don't make you play any better but are cool to look at - the problem is new ones are released all the time and whats new and cool today is old and boring tomorrow.

    I got my lad a couple of Fortnite figurines for his desk, lookup fortnite characters on Amazon or wherever.  My lad likes the Funko's so I got him a couple of those.  And a llama, every fortnite player needs a llama!

    This shows that there is a place for single player games in today’s market. I’m one of those gamers who would much rather play a good single player focussed game than a sub standard story mode of a multiplayer game that has been added on without an afterthought.

    Looking forward to playing this in the coming months. First, though, I’m getting really into Red Dead 2 now. After the discussion a few pages back, I’ve decided to actually give it some time. Boy, was that a good decision!

    Yeah I was enjoying RDR2 before Fallen Order came out, as a massive Star Wars fan I just had to play this!

    Thoroughly enjoyed the game so far (and it gets better as you progress, especially if you are a Star Wars nerd like me) but won't be sad when its finished as I'll be heading back to RDR2.  Win win ?
