  1. For some reason my night theme turned itself off yesterday, I've turned it back on but now when I try to write a post the text is the same colour as the background (making it essentially invisible).  I had to turn night mode off to write this!

  2. Anyone still playing Sea of Thieves?  I see its 50% off atm.

Wondering about its long term replayability and how solo friendly it is - I like MMOs so don't mind a bit of grind but any time invested has to reward me with character growth and fun.

Just asking what those that played it think now. Ta.

Fallout 76 is just the same as any other MMO - boring as hell and full of monotonous BS. They made an odd choice not to include any NPCs though.

Depends on your point of view I guess, most of my favourite games are MMOs - I like to play with other people and have a laugh doing whatever it is we're doing.  There are some very good solo games, far better and deeper than MMOs but they never hold my attention for very long as I get bored playing by myself.

Fallout 76 actually has a lot of quests in it, you might not get them from an NPC as such (although there are plenty of robots willing to talk to you and give you a mission!) but there are far more than I'll ever do.

  4. Looking forwards to playing RDR2 myself, still waiting for it to be announced on PC...

Anyone playing Fallout 76?  The reviews were mixed but imo almost all missed the point as most reviewed it as a typical Fallout game - its an MMO first and foremost and expects you to play with friends (although to be fair I have played a lot of it solo and its still good fun!)

    3 billboards.

I can't really describe it, you have to watch it really, but it's quite brilliant.

    Will Hughes/10.

Got round to watching this on Sky last night and have to agree - it is very good without really fitting into any genre.  If I could describe it, it kinda starts in the middle, stuff happens, then ends in the middle, but the stuff that happens is neither predictable nor cliched.

  6. We lost our 16yo salt and pepper miniature schnauzer 'Tricky' in April this year ?

'Schnapps', our new black and silver miniature schnauzer is 9 weeks old today, we've had him a week and he's settling in nicely!  He already responds to his name, sit command and 'wee-wee'.  Oh and he has a variety of innocent/cute looks that will no doubt come in handy in the near future!

I use that excuse to my wife every time I want some new Techy stuff, "Daughter needs a new telly, she can have ours, Other daughter's laptop broke, oh she can have mine! By the way Curry's have a sale on dear, of course you can have those new boots as well!"

Hehe, I'm a huge technophile when it comes to computing I think my wife knows that and its just kinda quietly accepted that I spend a small fortune ever few years updating my setup, the fact that I can pass my existing stuff on to the kids just sweetens the deal!

As for gaming, I've been playing a lot of Assassins Creed Odyssey lately, awesome game with an insane amount of stuff to do - wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't clean up with numerous game of the year awards, its by far the best in the series imo.  I'm trying to get it finished before Fallout 76 next month - which should also be pretty cool unless you're expecting Fallout 5 in which case you'll be disappointed.

That seems a bit frequent for a rig that high end. I spend similar but its more like 6 years.

Oh yeah, complete overkill but my old PCs get passed onto our 2 lads so we're all using something relatively current.

  9. Fair review of a Xbox One X vs PS4 Pro vs $500 PC here;

Personally, if I only had $500 to spend on a PC I wouldn't bother, I spend more than that on a graphics card alone ?

We've got a PS4 (used by our youngest for Fortnite and by everyone else for blurays) I've tried gaming on it but can't be doing with those little sticks, gimme the control and accuracy of a mouse and keyboard any day.  My PC also does a million* more things than a console does anyway so personally speaking the £2k-£3k investment every 3 or 4 years more than pays for itself compared to a buying the latest console.

    * more-or-less ?

It's a surprisingly good spectator sport to be honest. And with the rate it's growing, it will start to threaten smaller sports for popularity.

It was a very good watch.  I've been a gamer for 30+ years and its nice to see it slowly emerge from the bedroom to be something more mainstream - I just wish I was 30 years younger so I could try my hand at something more competitive, my reactions are to slow and I have way to many bad habits now to change!

With a 500k prize for yesterdays winners I recall the days of my Mum telling me to go outside and get some fresh air during the summer holidays, I think I'll question my kids wanting to go out and make sure they are sat in front of their PCs practising lol!

I regularly watch esports on Twitch and have seen the CoD World Championships at Insomnia during Easter and really like how much effort is put in to these events. OWL was a good show but the season just went on for way too long for my liking.

It was a great weekend, I would thoroughly recommend it if it comes back to London - kids are more into competitive gaming than me and they both said it was amazing (our 15yo said it was 'literally the best thing he's done in life ever' lol).

We're planning a trip to Insomnia next Easter now as well, never been before but looks good!

    Missing my first match of the season tomorrow taking our two lads here;

If you see someone walking around the arena in a Derby shirt looking vaguely interested and confused it'll probably be me ?

EDIT:  Actually Brentford is not far from Wembley I might go and take my picture outside their stadium and get myself in the papers for going to the wrong ground ?

Was a great weekend, much better than I thought it would be - like a football crowd for gamer nerds ?

Anyone interested in competitive gaming should knock it off their bucket list, it was a lot of fun.

  14. Edinburgh Fringe's top 10 best jokes...

    - Working at the JobCentre has to be a tense job - knowing that if you get fired, you still have to come in the next day.

    - I had a job drilling holes for water - it was well boring.

    - I took out a loan to pay for an exorcism. If I don't pay it back, I'm going to get repossessed.

    - In my last relationship, I hated being treated like a piece of meat. She was a vegan and refused to touch me.

    - I've got a new job collecting all the jumpers left in the park at the weekends, but it's not easy. They keep moving the goalposts.

    - I think love is like central heating. You turn it on before guests arrive and pretend it's like this all the time.

    - Why are they calling it Brexit and not The Great British Break Off?

    - Trump said he'd build a wall but he hasn't even picked up a brick. He's just another middle-aged man failing on a DIY project.

    - I lost a friend after we had an argument about the Tardis. I thought it was a little thing, but it seemed much bigger once we got into it.

    - What do colour blind people do when they are told to eat their greens?

Just finished God of War (a little late to the party, I know).

BLOODY HELL, BOY! What a game!

Probably the best thing I've played on my PS4 since The Last of Us. Amazing stuff. Definitely recommend it for everyone, whether you've played the old God of War games, or not!

Excellent game, pity its PS4 only - my kinda game but I'm to old and stuck in my ways to switch from keyboard and mouse now!

I did get Horizon Zero Dawn for our PS4 but got frustrated after a couple of hours struggling with the little joypad sticks ?

    FTFY ?

Didn't know whether to but the haha or sad emoji...

For what its worth, in the top post on this page I wrote 'Colombian' and 'Columbian' - one of which I know to be right, one of which I'm either blaming on the heat or my poor typing skills ?

Every Colombian that surrounded the referee and Harry Kane for 3 minutes whilst he waited calmly to take a penalty.

And their coach for mouthing off about Englands 'dirty antics'

And another of their coaches for trying to wind Raheem Sterling up as he jogged off at halftime.

Well the whole Columbian team/staff really ?

Quoting myself but I just want to add Maradona to the list as well (and not just because of what he said re. last nights match!)

  18. Fortnite fans... for anyone that missed the rocket launching tonight this is a great video.

What does Season 5 have in store for us...?  Aliens? Time Travel? Inter-dimension goofiness!  Whatever they do witnessing the event live was pretty special, everyone on the servers just stopped and looked up (well, apart from that 1 guy that now has the WR kills for knocking down a platform holding 48 people watching the event - there's always 1 lol ? )
