I know this will trigger some people! But I was reading Simon Jordan's book and he talked about Palace's promotion to the Premier League and all the riches that awaited. He then dissected all the promotion bonuses he needed to pay, all the fees for players with add ons, then the agents on within an instant asking for an increase in wages, then the additional costs for being in a higher league. Before getting into buying new players who want more money because they know they are needed to take you to the next level.
Obviously it's a different scenario but as the link @oldben sent shows, all the clubs who compete with the parachute payment clubs are pretty much spending more than their turnover on players/players wages 
It's a pretty desperate picture for an owner and I really hope fans aren't going to start to turn on Clowes if/when he doesn't fancy throwing away many more millions of his own hard-earned cash.

😢 in the end he was a surprisingly good addition to the club. There’s a sense of closure in a way that a number of those who joined after admin to help rebuild the club are heading off with a sort of “mission accomplished”.

Think he's a good character and shown real resilience to come back from his ACL injuries but I think League 1 was and is his level.Watching the wingers in the Championship this season ,I fear for us if he gets exposed .

Just passing on what I was told. As a 36 year old married bloke, can safely say becoming an ITK warrior strangely doesn’t appeal to me 😂 Does Clowes have a well documented 4 year Championship plan? (Y) Do we crave to develop players with re-sale value? (Y) Is Jack Thompson incredibly highly rated, having been linked with top 6 Premier League sides during the last 12 months? (Y) Maybe you shouldn’t be so instantly dismissive. May be crossed wires from the source, but then again maybe not 🙃

Collo has probably been told he won't be #1, and Sibs may want to look elsewhere if he's not interested in continuing at leftback. 
The rest, Wildsmith is a little disappointing but not unexpected, and we can replace him IMO. Smith, is getting on but would probably have offered him another year, the rest, yeah about what was expected.
Recruitment is vital, but it already was, so nothing really changes there. Just hope we're well into it behind the scenes. Don't want to lose the advantage of automatic promotion by then fannying about on signings.

I understand there is a facility to add additional members to the squad during the summer.
