I’d argue he’s not even been given a proper chance yet.

If the argument is he doesn’t track back, I question why we even bought him in the first place and what’s the point of putting him on the bench?

This line up doesn’t shout goals - and goals win games. At least with CBT and NML you in essence give them a free pass to create.

Now our attacking centre mids appears to be Thompson. Jesus.

    I think it's a solid team.

Northampton like to play football,  let's earn the right, be strong early on and squeeze the life out of them. We don't want to concede and put pressure on ourselves.

Think we will outwork them and then make changes if needs be.  Plenty of width if we play with just 3 staying back.

    Let's not panic yet.

What was the point in buying CBT if he can’t get in when we only have two other attacking options?

I just can’t get my head around it.

As @sagehas succinctly suggested.. because he's been pretty useless when he's played.

Off the pace and slow to track back.. Warne isn't going to allow luxury players at the best of times, never mind ones who are lazy to boot.

  3. So eg of our starting team today :

    Cashin Nelson Forsyth

    Adams Smith

    Hourihane

    Ward  Wilson

    Waghorn NML

And..injury-free we could send out a change 2nd XI of...

    Niambe Bradley Rooney Elder

    Bird Thompson

    CBT  Sibley

    Barks Collins Gayle

With JJ, Fornah, Washington in neither team.

For League 1 that is very good is it not?

  4. Must win. Get those points on the board or we may struggle.

Tricky game v Blackpool and then a very tough game v Portsmouth.

Wycombe have little to play for, but away that could be difficult.

Then 3 easy games to finish. Just need to get to them and have breathing space and we can coast home.

Massive game today....and each and every game now.

Can't see it being anything other than

Wildsmith, Cashin, Forsyth, Nelson again, with Adams is a shoe-in.

    NML plays.

That's 6 definitely.. with 5 up for grabs.

    Guessing Smith too.

Ward or Wilson,  Sibs or Elder.

    Thompson or Hourihane.

Barks or CBT .... Waghorn in a 2?

Gayle, Collins, Bird, Washington, Niambe, Bradley all there or thereabouts... we have options, we have players coming back...  ffs Derby just get this over the line and after a season of tight games we may actually be able to have a celebratory party last game with nothing riding on it.

Think there were some others on the Charlton match thread, after he'd been kicked to death and still bossed it. Deffo needs a song though 🙏

And your lyrics were what about his 'booty'??😬

What about using the 'Come on and join the conga' tune...?

Obviously none of these will gain traction not least became they are 40year old songs... but I'm afraid I'm not a big Radio 1 fan 😉

  6. I like that he's a clever footballer yet he's also worked his way back from several career threatening injuries.

Just does everything sensibly and without any drama. Ģood in the air, fast enough,  can cross really well, will play any position.

Yesterday he just covered the line and smashed into tackles, all without any fuss.

I agree with him. It's great that we won it but I have no idea how anyone could say a draw wouldn't have been a fair result.

There's a difference between it being a tight game and suggesting they were somehow robbed.

It went as Warne planned. Hold them at arms length and hit them at pace or from a dead ball.  We did that and then largely they created very little.

Obviously it’s an important game but I wouldn’t say the losers are facing the play offs in the face just yet. Also, whoever loses, it may not be because they “choked in a critical moment”.

Weirdly I was closer to the truth than I figured...

With 3 points potentially on the board before Bolton play again  and 2 or 3 other teams waiting on any slip-up, I think Bolton probably do feel they are staring at the play offs now.

If Carlsberg did Saturday football it would probably look like today .....😀

Why do some people try so hard to look for negatives in every game we win?

Bearing in mind after some games the majority were saying he wasn't good enough and they wanted a change,  its amazing how quickly the mood changes for me!

Also - even the biggest Warne supporter would struggle to say we keep emphatically putting the opposition to the sword either.

It's a tough watch at times, lots of tight games, plenty of energy and heart but free flowing football rarely seen in both halves. Strong defenders,  soaking up pressure, quick breaks down the wing and moments of quality are often what we are working towards.

Somehow we are clear in 2nd without it really feeling like we have played 'that' well many times.

Functional, hard working, content to win by the odd goal... the whole season feels slightly characterised as going to be 'who cares about the performance, just get the points'...

But we knew that before he started and he's done it before and its no fluke.

And he's 7 games away from becoming a Derby legend.

Is there anything as dull as people worrying if we'll be rubbish if we go up?

Looking at Warne's old team... and how Sheff Wed have struggled....there is probably an argument to be had eventually that we MAY struggle.

But, yep for now who cares.

Get up and worry about it then.

Tbh Nelson, Niambe, Wilson, Bradley, Elder, Ward... all look decent enough.

CBT and Washington have hardly featured. Fornah has disappeared.

So I trust Warne to get in decent players. Whether he can get us above midtable I'm not overly confident- but one step at a time eh.

    ..

  11. Fozzie, Cashin,  Wildsmith, Nelson and Adams all brilliant.  Again that defensive 5 were vital.

NML worked his socks off but his touch wasn't there today.

Wilson was the game changer. I prefer Thompson to Hourihane.

Sibley and Ward struggled at times to get on the ball.

    Waghorn was pretty ineffective.

Thought Smith had a decent game.

Another game where the defence kept us in it and we nicked a goal. Its not luck, its the way he manages things and it's taking us back up at the moment.

Not a great performance but a bloody great day.

  12. Great first 10min. Then Bolton dominated before Gayle injury allowed a rejig and we get back in it.

Bolton having lots of space.  Both wingbacks are exposed with a wide man who fortunately keep not delivering good enough balls or taking their man on.

Our delivery from set pieces is poor. Too many free kicks and offsides, too much launching it to no one.

    Bolton possibly shading it.

    Tight game.

If we go limply, try and be defensive as a 5 then I think it will be a huge blow.  At least play it to win for me.

  14. Surely we go again with the same team.

The back 3 look immense, wing backs have played well, gives us attacking options and Gayle is on a roll.

Still leaves us with very good defenders on the bench who could let us revert to back 4, as well as Wilson for trickery,  Thompson for legs, Waghorn to play 2 up top.

  15. Today's the day Warne's 'characters' should come to the fore.

Massive game,  full ground... Nelson, Adams, Sonny, NML, Gayle,  Waghorn, Cashin... Big time players who have been here before.

The loser stare the play offs in the face having just choked in a critical moment to someone they could play... psychologically it's massive we don't go into our shells.

Embrace the occasion,  play on the front foot as we have been. Bolton will be at least as worried about this as we are.

Stand tall lads and smash 'em.
