Is that the loan left back you talked about before ?

For the record I'm an early convert to @SECornerRAMand their ITK credentials.

But without context, it does sometimes feel like an episode of 'Deal or No Deal'. Where constant, intense conversations happen and everyone hangs on every word... even though its all complete, made-up b*ll*x.🤣

Our recent glamour appointments have been Erikkson and Capello. Very expensive flops.

    Agreed.

Tbh they weren't experienced or conversant with our league,  players,  culture. Nor were they attacking managers who had much personality either.

I'd absolutely love to see what Klopp could do with those players.

One less Premier League title than Klopp and the same as Pochettino, with about half a billion less to spend?

O'Neil is quite similar to Gareth in many ways.

Accomplished but not 'glamour' footballer. Workmanlike.

    Liked at all his clubs.

    He looks 'similar'.

    Good company man.

Better track record as a manager but again not a glamour appointment.

Yeah I see what people are saying and I know we have suffered with constant rebuilds due to short contracts in admin but I do wish a manager would say something like “we’re gonna fill 18 spaces in the squad with maximum quality and then we’ll use our cat 1 academy to fill any further holes”

However, I accept that is not the Warne way

It would be 5mins of 'That's brave', 'Great to see the youngsters given a chance'.

Quickly replaced by.... 'Why are we being so small-time', 'We are going to be relegated', 'Why did Clowes say we had a competitive budget', 'Why is there no money left' etc etc.

We threw young players in last time when we had no choice. Ultimately it wasn't a disaster but it's not normally a recipe for a strong season. A sprinkling of youth, added from a position of strength is usually better.

  5. We may well look back and think these were the glory years. We will definitely miss his class,  his calm,  his organisational skills, his qualifying campaigns.... a hell of a lot more.

But we have been terrible to watch this tournament and his reaction has been wrong for me.

Record books will say runners-up, but we have been so disappointing and he had become ever more negative.. so the time has come to part ways because we had exhausted his approach which has been 90% successful.

Southgate has been outstanding as England manager and given us all some incredible memories.

His critics have been completely unwarranted for the past three tournaments where I think he’s barely put a foot wrong but all the age old criticisms of him have come true this summer.

2018 World Cup was spectacular, I remember thinking that might be the best it gets for many years, only to have us play brilliantly at Euro 2020 - people forget how well we played that tournament, we completely controlled games and Sterling/Kane were brilliant.

A lot of people point to that final and blame Southgate - it’s widely accepted that we should have gone for it more but it’s easy to forget when we went into half-time 1-0 up, we’d only conceded 1 goal all tournament. It didn’t work out but it wasn’t as mental to sit on that lead as people with the benefit of hindsight make it out to be.

I actually think the Qatar World Cup is the big what if for me, that team was absolutely flying and went toe to toe with France. There’s no shame in losing to them and on another day we easily might have won to go on to be the team facing Argentina in the final.

This tournament has been by far his worst but we still made it to the final. I will remember him extremely fondly but it’s time to go now, he’s lost a lot of the public and, despite having the best crop of English talent to date, we played considerably worse than we have in his tenure.

What he’s achieved with the England set up is incredible, I will miss the outstanding leader and statesman he is but it is time to go. He’ll be ready to move on after nearly a decade of putting up with the spotlight and I think he understands it’s time for someone else to have a go.

The people who think he’s the devil will also moan to high heaven when the FA appoint U21’s manager Lee Carsley.

I don’t think any of Howe, Mancini, Klopp (lol), Tuchel (lol) or Potter will be interested. Southgate’s critics forget that we can’t just grab one of these managers, they also forget that we’re dealing with the largely incompetent FA who’s last two actual appointments were Roy Hodgson and Sam Allardyce ffs.

Carsley’s done a fantastic job with the U21’s, won a tournament and done it playing tactically forward thinking football which got the best out of his squad.

Southgate came from the U21’s, as did de la Fuente, the experience you gain is clearly more transferable than management of a club side you get in training almost every day of the year.

Carsley is also someone you can sack fairly easily after the next World Cup if someone exciting is actually interested.

    Good post.

I've been behind him until this tournament.

We've dropped off a cliff here.

He's reverted to having a 'clique' and it's not served us.

We've been poor, except the Netherlands game.

He's got everything in place and now we need to move on to someone who can take us over the line.

Such a negative performance last night and in general through the tournament.  We lost with honour against France, should have beaten Italy....and then have regressed despite what the history books will say.

I would like to thank Gareth for putting England back on the international football map , competing in tournaments , reaching semi finals and finals this is no mean feat  and should not be forgotten , it is now time for Gareth to step aside gracefully and for a manager to come in that as well as competing
In these competitions has us winning them , new ideas are needed for us to achieve this

Regarding last night , Englands so called big players , Bellingham, Saka , Foden , Rice and Kane went missing , in Kanes defence I don’t think he has been fit , there is a lot to be proud of in Gareth’s tenure , there are players coming through that will hopefully enable whoever takes over to mould a squad capable of taking us to that elusive trophy

Shaw was our best player. Guehi was next,  then Mainoo. All the subs delivered again.

It's the stars who were undroppable who let us down.  Especially Kane who was embarrassing.

    Re: Southgate

Personally I think he’s has enough cracks of the whip and should be let go. But can’t deny he’s done more than any other manager minus Sir Alf.

As for his replacement I must admit it’s a bit of a stinger thinking about not having an Englishman in charge. But we haven’t really got an obvious option. Sadly, for whatever reason English managers have not been able to get big jobs or be successful in big jobs.

Think unless we absolutely nail the replacement we could be the in for a couple of tough tournaments. But we’ll have to risk it at some point so why not now.

    my shortlist would be:

    Howe
    Potter
    Carsley
    Klopp

Klopp is the stand out ... he speaks amazing English,  galvanises players, knows our game,  plays attacking football, out of work...

    Go and get him.

People in here scoring political points? Where?

I saw people pointing out much of the irony of a gun supporting narcissist criminal who incites violence being shot at by an AR15 in the country where there's no place for this kind of violence( in a country where mass shootings are the norm. )

But yeah, enough with the cheap political point scoring. Don't want to offend any opposing views on violence

Difficult as it may be to you to believe,  millions of people think he's presidential material and voted him in. You are posting a one-sided narrative that whilst perhaps largely accurate will just deteriorate into opposing ideological sides. Its inevitable if there is not a conscious effort to avoid it.

I don't think it helped that CBT was the first transfer fee that we'd paid for over 2 years when we signed him.

Some people were acting like he was a £3m signing rather than a nominal £300k signing and expecting an instant star, so have now judged him as a flop.

Admittedly the only encouraging sign so far was his performance against Pompey, but it did show us just enough to hold out hope that he may yet prove to be a good addition.

    Time will tell.

Repeating myself...but my main concern was his body language and general lack of effort.

He's like the annoying mate who comes every week but doesn't ever work back, waits for the ball and then loses it and merely shrugs his shoulders.

If you're out of form, at least look arsed.

Didn't look a Warne player at all. There must be more to come.... or he'll be out the door for sure.

You’ve came back to an era of somewhat discontent in sections of the fanbase that are not happy with Paul Warne despite promotion.

His style of football is not what some would like to see from a Derby County team even though results have been impressive, breaking records along the way. There is a long term concern over allowing Warne continue building a team to his style which would set us back years of rebuilding once he departs, potentially wasting academy talent.

Question marks have been put in place over his ability to manage at this level with a club of this size, with fans pointing to his record at Rotherham. There is a belief that whilst he’s a League 1 promotion specialist, he’s also a Championship relegation specialist.

Any player that has played under Warne at Rotherham or been a previous target does not go down well.

We disabled polls on the forum last season due to the weekly in or out polls and introduced a singular topic titled Paul Warne in an attempt to contain it. The discontent had a tendency to leak into other topics and yeah there was quite a lot of frustration from both sides of the fence at the other side.

Warne’s personality has also split fans, he is I guess what you would call a quirky character that loves a bobble hat which hasn’t helped and has an habit of rubbing fans up the wrong way with his post match comments.

For a promoted side, it’s not been the party you would expect.

I would personally urge you not try not to be swayed by anything on the forum and watch maybe the first 10 league games and see what side of the fence you sit on.

In terms of the squad, Cashin and Nelson at the back are universally loved, we have Jake Rooney coming back from an ACL that has shown promise before his injury. Blackett-Taylor was an in demand signing yet since joining hasn’t been able to cement a place in the team and James Collins up top divides opinion at the best of times.

Hopefully incoming Ebou Adams is largely credited with helping us get promoted, he’s an all action midfielder that was universally loved at the time, but now he has the same question marks that Warne has in that can he do it at this level and are we paying too much.

Tried to be fair with all this, not looking to cause a reaction, it’s just a summary of what I feel is going on.

I think up till November maybe that's a fair reflection.

The noisy majority wanted him out.

The 'stay patient' minority got bigger and bigger, punctuated by the occasional defeat. By the time promotion was gained there was little opposition and any minority voicing concerns are understandably just murmuring.

However, the ferocious nature of their opposition before Xnas means it won't take much to return.

Most fans see mid table as the target and see the transfer activity so far as decent.

But I used to be active here and I miss it 🙂

    What was your picture?

    Not a Dallas Cowboy helmet?

How long have you been absent.

  13. I've been critical of Southgate this tournament.  Last game was definitely better, we look so much better when we are behind.

I blame Southgate's negativity in approach, starting team and timing of substitutions. Others may say the ends justify the means and he's got everything right.

Can see nothing other than 'same again'. Against Spain its more sensible than in previous games anyway.

Kane has been terrible but could end up with the Golden Boot. No way is he dropped.

Agree with @Ghost of Cloughthat Trippier makes sense as they will cut inside anyway. The 'weaker' players (Guehi, Mainoo) have been excellent, it's the stars who have struggled at times (Kane, Foden, Bellingham, Walker) so it will be see how we go and use the subs.

Can see a tight game. 1-1 maybe.

Feels like the stars have aligned... here's hoping.

So those countries arming and funding Russia have nothing to do with us , Europe and USA funding and arming Ukraine ,

this has bugger all to do with whether the Ukraine exists , it’s all about who controls it as a very valuable strategic military , economic ,mineral rich and food producing area of Eastern Europe and has been for a very long time ,

when you say they are still here you obviously don’t mean the thousands of people on both sides who are not still here , Ukraine would not allow men to choose to leave if they thought death and the death of they’re families was more important than who control s the area , Russia have done the same thing with conscription, we are funding this because we want a western leaning government in place ,not because we care about lives and so called democracy, thousands die in gazza but we arm Isreal , thousands die world wide that we turn a blind eye to ,

to be fair though you state that you believe there’s a chance Ukraine wins this war , I don’t and that’s always been my point , many years ago someone gave me a bit of advice that I’ve always found useful,,, keep your own side of the street clean , it’s helped me massively when situations arose that I struggle with which I could easily make a whole lot worse than they need be

Your argument is that they can't win, so why bother arming them.

So if they could,  would you? Even if it leads to more bloodshed?

It seems a practical decision on your part. You're going to lose anyway so we aren't helping/arming you.

So what's the issue with the west making a practical decision that Russia are dangerous to our way of life and if we want to cripple them, better to help Ukraine rather than either let them exert more power or end up fighting them ourselves?

  15. 1 hour ago, Archied said:

Personally I don’t find people having a different view to mine fxxxxx hard , might be worth you wondering why it does for you 🤷🏻‍♂️,

all the while totally ignoring the glaring facts ( posted here in response to you ) reality s and seriousness of the current course of action be taken by the west but my guess is your all for us joining the fighting to end this war sooner and save lives

Maybe it's frustrating to hear someone seem to take the higher moral and philosophical ground by seemingly saying 'they aren't going to stop themselves being annexed so we should step in and help the Russians to do it'.

Because that's what 'peace talks' seem to be.

The rules of the 'game' sure are weird though I admit. Us providing 'defensive' capabilities only, which allows us to keep up the pretence we aren't fighting each other.

    Seems harsh.

However, being honest, it's also true.

I'm willing to give him a chance as he didn't have long to settle and he came with high expectations and seemed to promise to be a better player than he showed.

Tbh... quite how badly he played is part of the reason I'm thinking we are patient. He was nothing like it said he was on the tin...there MUST be more to come.

Still a mystery to me why we paid so much money at a time we really didn’t have any whilst he had a few very good games he was basically ok - good luck to him as it wasn’t his fault

    Too right.

Totally out of kilter with what we were spending at the time. An enormous fee for someone who was a gamble with a limited track record.

Made no sense, then or now.

Doesn't get the attention of Blackman, Anya, Bradley Johnson etc because they seemed misjudged, over priced... but in context they made some kind of lazy 'sense'.

His signing made no sense unless you were absolutely loaded.

Definitely over qualified in the irksome gobs**** criteria.
