Here’s some concept designs I’ve put together. All influenced by the We Are Derby colours that were introduced by the club last year. Have at them ✌️🐏

Like all of them... quite 'Spurs-y'..

Anyone tried Dark Matter yet? Apple TV.

    Three episodes in.

    It's solid enough.

I like the male leads and there are some interesting ideas.

I'm not liking the relationship with his wife particularly as it feels really forced.

I'm not sure if the good start and different way at looking at well-trod, multi universe theme is becoming a bit more deriviative and less interesting as it progresses.

  3. TV weather reports.  5mins of isobars, high pressure,  weather fronts and all manner of maps... yet I find myself totally bamboozled by the sheer volume of facts and end  up looking on my phone for a simple picture with a number and a picture of sun/rain/clouds, which tells me all I need to know.

  4. Bivol looked momentarily surprised and was caught by a brave opponent...then comprehensively cleaned him out.

Other than Usyk's, everyone's record looks a bit sketchy now.

Dubois looked aggressive,  decent puncher...but get-at-able.

Zhang looked so powerful and strong when finally roused.

    Wilder looks done.

Parker appears better with every passing fight between his opponents,  yet Fury and AJ seem a level above him.

Met Lionel and Jim and a couple of players (Van Der Laan for sure) at a gathering in London. We had what we called a forum at the time. I remember mostly Jim and Lionel discussing about who was buying the next drinks. And I don't know who won out (but it would have been Lionel paying).

On another occasion I met Brendan Batson who regaled us with a story of Jim Smith and big daft Ron at a Brum-centric gathering. And Ron basically accusing Jim of being a piss-head. Pot and kettle.

I think we can safely assume Jim Smith enjoyed a good drinkie-poos... as did Cloughie.  And Rooney got himself into some scrapes, not forgetting Paul Jewell.

Hardly surprising the Keogh-debacle occurred when drinking is (was) so ingrained in the game.

I think the fitness-side of things is preventing its continuation.  In the past players like Adams, Robson,  Keane would be the biggest drinkers and then still 'perform' in training which gave them  leadership qualities. I'd hope training is quicker,  more intense and more about having a decent touch rather than still being able to drag yourself around the training ground, and players who enjoy the high life get found out a lot quicker.

  6. Zodiac

Seen it quite a few times but it's always a great watch. Film making of the highest order. Unbelievable attention to detail, great acting,  lots of little storylines that keep intersecting.

It about the hunt for the Zodiac killer, but its really long and covers an extended period of time and you really feel that change of time, yet somehow relaying it back it also feels like not much happens.

If you like the first series of True Detective this is one for you.

😂 As for Boardwalk Empire, I watched it a long time ago and really enjoyed it. It's not quite at the level of crime series like The Sopranos, or The Wire, but then very little is. Steve Buscemi is excellent as always as, in fairness, are most of the cast and the sets and visuals in general are pretty sumptuous. There's lots of it too, IIRC.

"sets and visuals in general are pretty sumptuous."

    That's definitely true.

    Hugely ambitious storylines and scope.

    Good acting, interesting story....

But after maybr 3 series I finally admitted it was unbelievably slow. And I was trying to convince myself it wasn't boring me.

Lots to like,  quality production.. but definitely by then it was style over substance for me.

Without giving too much away, S02 is much broader in its scope. I am wondering now whether it's teeing upa a 3rd season though, whereas I'd hoped it would all be tied up in thi series. I think the premise can carry a couple of seasons, but I'm not sure if a 3rd would necessarily add anything. It still has my attention though!

Were you one of those giving praise for 'The Gentlemen'?

Me and Mrs Chester are 4 episodes in. It reminds me most of Lock, Stock...

Haven't kept up with who's writing/doing what with it...but on my Guy Ritchie scales (whether or not he's directly responsible) it's tipping over into slightly annoying me with the Ritchie-isms.

The female lead is grating on us, her accent too fake,  her character too unbelievable. Not sure if it's the writing or her acting but every time she's in it, we lose interest.

I don't hate it. But it's too daft to grab me story-wise, and too slow/lacking in action to be an 'Gangs of London type balls-out, action-fest'.

  9. Rebus (2024)

Never watched the original few series..... and as I've said before I'm dubious of domestic series such as Happy Valley/Line of Duty/Bodyguard that people rave about.

Actually really impressed. Gritty, good dialogue, well acted... just very watchable in a Sweeney type, 'police aren't all black and white good/bad' kinda way.

Jeremy Renner is clearly superhuman. New years Day 2023 he was in a life-threatening snow plow accident that broke 38 of his bones, punctured his lung, and caused one of his eyeballs to pop out of his head and yet less than 18 months later, Sunday sees the release of Mayor of Kingstown season 3. I mean the guy actually died (several times) and was revived and doctors told him he'd never even walk again. Bonkers.

If you've not caught this show, then a word to the wise, you really ought to. It's one of the best shows in years IMO. Sadly, August 4th is the effective date for me as there's no way I can watch this drip-fed. Strictly binge material.

I watched most of the first series.... thought it was decent but lost the thread/got sidetracked and didn't love it enough to pick it back up. How do the series compare?

    I enjoyed it

I thought it was a decent game, especially 2nd half.

I'm ready to be shot down obviously here... but here goes....

The thing I don't understand is with eg Aguero or Jesus, City didn't have to option to just go direct. They then get a 6ft 4in beast of a striker.

Teams like United and Madrid have gone deep and incredibly narrow and said you can't play through us and can cross it to your heart's content. City pass it across the penalty edge, left to right...to Silva, Doku, Grealish.... who granted are inverted and invariably check back in. But regardless of not hitting the goal line, they are given ample opportunity to cross it...and Haaland offers very little at times at the backpost. I'd back eg Shearer to have been much more dangerous in those tight games. Haaland seems very static and not in the position to attack the ball.

Obviously he's a phenomenon,  but he really doesn't offer an aerial threat that I expected him to in these huge games.

No doubt at least one of Sunderland, Norwich, West Brom, Sheff Wed, Blackburn, Middlesbrough, Sheff Utd, Bristol City, Swansea or Cardiff will sack their manager in the next 6 months and will look at Rosenior as a top option.

    Quite possibly...

But he's not got a wealth of experience or any track record of 'success'.

He's all style and appearance at the moment. Nothing against him at all but he doesn't strike me as that much of a leader. Nice bloke, reasonably charismatic,  lots of high-minded ideas... be interested to see what happens when the wheels start to come off.

Paul Clement looked mustard and had the way about him that felt he could go a long way.....that quickly unravelled!

  13. The Imposter

    Finished it..  7/10

On Channel 4 but followed Netflix's tactic of chopping up all the timelines and going back n forth to tell the story so they can keep changing the narrative.

Frustrating  ...as it feels too manipulative, deliberately withholding bits of the story in order to be able to suddenly change direction.

Quite a cheap production of a pretty bizarre story. Thought they could have made more of the story but still worth a watch.

  14. It was an interesting fight stylistically.

Taylor was doing all the pressing,  was working the body and looked fitter and stronger for periods.

Catterall had an awkward stance, bobbed and ducked continously and Taylor just couldn't work him out. It almost felt unfair as he desperately poured forward looking for the gap/angle to catch Catterall and walked onto another explosive left to the side of his face. Catterall also used his head a lot and frequently almost barged him back with his shoulder to create the gap he needed to keep evading any of Taylor's power shots.

Felt to me like if it was a good old fight in a park with a load of school kids watching, that Taylor would have won but in the ring he just couldn't work out how to stop Catterall backing off and drawing him in before crunching him in the face.

Someone injuring their ACL, just highlights why it fraught with risk. I'm sure their is lots of agreements, however the point still stands, you can't sign them, as you say if there is an injury clause, end result, you can't sign them.

I take your point..... what's the point in having an injury clause, when you can't sign it legally anyway! Don't have the clause, lhey get injured and so you don't sign them....the clause seems slightly surplus to requirements in a contract you can't sign.

  16. Loved Marco. Real part of my youth.

Bit like Chris Martin he would hit the deck from a touch of a feather, despite being let's call it 'stocky'.

But a real presence,  could do a bit of everything....not slow,  strong, decent header,  good shot. A poor man's Shearer maybe!

    All the best!

Seeing that picture of him walking (the lake district I presume) is a bit depressing as he looks like a mate's old Dad, not the young 'man about town' I bumped into... what feels about a year ago!!

Notice some comments about Russell Hoult's health in there....any update on that?

Remember a story of some fella on a flight sat next to Fellani who was playing for Utd at the time.   Crew came round with refreshments and he bought 2 chocolate bars, handed her a £50 note and said is that enough.  Different world.

Obviously you haven't been to the cinema recently...  because the answer would be 'no'!

Post is a bit muddled, but it does open with, 'not a comment on Murphy' which ought to have been the clue to my meaning.

Also, I'm not suggesting NML, Barks and CBT are wing backs, nor would I want them to be. To my eye at least, Wilson, Ward and Sibs are the only current genuine WB's (not sure about Elder yet,  but I think he plooks more of an LB) and that's not enough.

I took your original meaning, but I'm not even sure they are classic wingbacks themselves, other than Ward.

Wilson feels like a frustrated winger who likes to take on his man but who will work hard defensively if told to. Sibley is obviously a converted attacking midfielder who may yet find his lack of real pace and trickery mean wing back suits him better.

Forsyth on his day could play that more defensive wing back role but isn't getting up and down the pitch enough.

Elder's been in/out and hot/cold but 'could' play that traditional role if he keeps fit.

Definitely light if we aim to play wingbacks consistently.  Feels like eg Smith were shoe-horned into positions they played well in, but I'd expect Warne to buy more specialist players this window.

Haven't really got a sense which is his preferred formation now. Niambe could play centre back and so if we see wingbacks being bought then that could be the answer.

  19. Great fight.

Catterall kept stinging him with the jab ....Taylor kept walking forward and getting smashed with the left.

Thought the gap was wider on the scorecards than it looked but the better man won tonight.

  20. 14 minutes ago, Comrade 86 said:

Nah, caan't have that I'm afraid.

I know we all have our own opinions, but Catterall landed more punches than Taylor in 11 out of 12 rounds, with 120 of 525 (23%) total punches finding their mark, with Taylor's number an extremely modest 73 of 306 (24%) overall.

Catterall also landed more power punches than Taylor in all bar 3 of the 12 rounds AND more than doubled Taylor's jab output.

I've literally no idea how anyone could watch that fight and score it a Taylor win.

Sorry, but IMO you're way off the mark in your assessment.

As I say... its just my recollection that I didn't think the decision was as heinous as everyone else. Obviously as you point out,  the facts suggest otherwise....

    Thoughts on tonight?
