Martin Waghorn is a Tractor to Chris Martin’s Rolls Royce ..
Why oh why does Cocu prefer the farm labourer to the artist ?
And what would we give to have Tom Cairney in our midfield ! A player who would grace the Premiership if anyone were to take a chance on him !
Thought Max Bird was first class too ..
And that game was Premiership class too ..

    I'll rephrase it
Martin's lack of movement was really shown up in that game and considering Huddersfield were on top for the majority of his time on the pitch it meant that despite a few nice touches (mainly before Holmes went off) the was never really a direct threat to the opposition, we were pinned in and needed somebody who could make more of a nuisance of himself when we did get it forward.
Marriott hardly touched the ball because while he did the chasing down / running the channels part he has no real physical presence and doesn't have a clue how to disposses a defender without fouling them. He's the single use plastic of the footballing world.

I also watched the game in the NE Corner. Pretty much summed it up apart from the stone wall penalty on Martin in the first half. For once, no hint of Martin trying to win it, just plain wrestled to the floor. Peno non decisions even themselves out, they had as many chances as we did. Draw was right result. Frustrating day

The issue from the start of the season was the midfield who were unable to either supply the forwards or provide runners beyond them...hence our goal draught.
Since the midfield has been resolved, both problems have essentially disappeared and our forwards and midfield runners are having a goalfest.(barring Marriott, ironically)
So the past four games are entirely representative of the quality of our strikers as they are quite happily now delivering the goods, now they have the support they required.

How on earth can you calculate what playing another player instead would have given  us , its unknowable. Nugent had 11 Championship starts and 20 sub appearances , not sure where the "should have got 4 goals" comes from.
My main memory is of seeing him miss chances and then thinking " he used to score from that position".

Agreed we weren't as fluid going forward as in a couple of recent games but Brizzle were pretty cute in some of their 'defensive' work. A lot of instances of players trying to give and go but that's hard with Henriksen and co sharing your shirt.

I’m not sure whether it was the game for Marriott tonight on reflection, even if I’l was thinking to throw him on during it. Bristol were deep, there was no space for him to run into so it’s not like we could hit them on the break. It was probably best to let Martin and Waghorn have a little battle.
The player I probably would still bring on was Shinnie just to break things up in their half when we were dominating at 3-2 and put them under more pressure.

Some thoughts on individual performances FWIW...
Hamer - Not at his best tonight
Bogle - Bit of a nothing performance, defensively and in attack
Wisdom - Oh dear! Calamitous in every way
Clarke - Better than some around him but that's not a ringing endorsement tbh
Lowe - Poor first half but much improved after the break
Bird - Oozes quality and is improving hand over fist - Derby MOTM by a street
Rooney- Another strong showing, along with Bird he bossed the midfield
Holmes - Quiet first half but much more himself after the break
Waghorn - Not a MF and unsurprisingly looked better once moved alongside Martin
Martin - Subdued first half but much better in the 2nd and duly got his goal
Lawrence - Surprised he had a shirt on his back by the end of the game - targeted by Bristol and given zero protection by the officials
Cocu - Liked the initial line up and certainly we dominated all bar the last 10 minutes of the first half. All planning undone by our defensive woes and some poor decisions in the final 3rd. Switched to something more like a 4-4-2 and got us back in the game but perhaps it was too little, too late.
Match Officials - I hope there's a special place in hell for refs as poor as tonight's myopic homer. Best leave it there really!
Summary - Some really good possession based football but we are remain short on quality at CB and perhaps between the sticks too. Our FBs have abundant potential but must show more awareness and must also work far harder to prevent oppo wingers crossing. Certainly a world away from the stuttering early season performances, and that's great to see but still much work to do. Hard to be too grumpy though now that we are at times playing such lovely stuff.

There is not that much wrong with this team, at all. We were away at a side in the playoffs and played them off the park for large spells. Add a few extra drops in quality, and we'd have won that game tonight. We're not far off.

WTAF are you on about. Obviously when we weren't scoring it was an issue, thanks for that mind-blowing revelation, but now we are it's not the area that's costing us. What bit of that are you struggling to grasp? Never mind anyway. Really can't be arsed.

I mean, the beers help, but there were just way too many positives from that game for me to be miserable after that game.
We really remind me of Norwich in the first season of Farke there. We're laying the foundations for next season and are slowly becoming a better team.
Weird to feel so positive after a defeat 😂
