    A couple of thoughts:
    1) Lawrence being sold for £1m would have caused a lot of P&S problems. Pearce has him valued at £8m in his little black amortisation book.

    2) Selling any players might have triggered demands from MSD in particular (protected by a floating charge over all assets of the Company). Sale of Lawrence might only have gone to making a debt repayment to them, not to be used for covering day-to-day expenses.

I like, and am intrigued, by your precision. What is Lawrence’s salary, and the Club’s wage bill, and where have your figures come from?  Hard to believe from me I know, but this is a genuine question.

The huge difference is that the administrators opinion is based on them being experts in the field and with all of the financial information to hand.
The medias opinion is based on nothing other than guesswork.

He is on £30k a week. Our club wage bill when we went into admin was quoted at £15m. it is reasonable to assume that players account for around £13m of that. I said 12% but i don't know for sure, but it looks to be between 11 and 14%.
I would add that the next best paid player is Bielik who we wouldn't have been able to sell.

But they would also need to have very very very long arms. It would narrow the search down to be fair. Always a good idea to think things through to a logical conclusion. I used to think that I would simply need to find a girlfriend / wife who had small hands. As I rapidly approach 60 I recognise that them wearing thick glasses is now equally essential.

Yes, and he appointed the managers and paid the wages of the squads who helped them blitz The Championship, which despite the protestations that simply playing at this level is a stain on their 'prestige' really isn't the case when they've spent a quarter of their entire history playing in the 2nd Division.
Someone pointed out that Newcastle have been relegated twice (twice! Newcastle! twice!) under his tenure as if that was ultimate proof of how awful he's been (talk about drinking the Kool aid), but.. so bloody what? It's really not beneath them to have spent 2/14 seasons playing in The Championship.
There's such a lack of self awareness amongst their fanbase and yet they're so outspoken that they've somehow managed to convince people, seemingly those who believe that football only started with the PL in 1992, that it is some great hardship to have done so, and that they should be amongst the elite, simply because they have a big stadium and fanbase and had a couple of good runs in the past 20 years.
As I said earlier I don't really think his managerial appointments have been good, but barring a stroke of genius or capitalising on a certain moment in time most managerial appointments ultimately lead to disappointment, and that holds true for Newcastle.
He tried the fan appeasement route by bringing back Keegan who was one of the biggest reasons they challenged for the title for a bit, it didn't work out. He tried it again with Shearer but it was a foolhardy approach, I'm not sure many Newcastle fans complained on the day it was announced though because that's exactly the kind of sentimentality they thrive on

Really not sure why all the Mike Ashley hate. Seems to me that he has his head screwed on, and knows how to operate sustainable businesses. Not going to get much better I would suggest unless there is some US Franchise Billionaire who wants to put their toe into the waters of the English lower divisions.

Morality has not existed in football since...?
Can't welcome worker exploiters, leveraged buyouts, gambling companies, property developers, investment bankers, oil men and newspaper owners but get all outraged by Sovereign Wealth funds taking over.
Either they're all wrong or they're all acceptable.
Personally, I find them all equally horrible and long for the day that it either all blows up or fans "seize the means of production" and run all the clubs themselves.
I kind of pity the Newcastle fans - so desperate for success and so fed up of Mike Ashley (who I cannot believe people want here - I'd rather we were liquidated) that they're welcoming the Saudi's with open arms (pun intended). But then again, fair play to them for still being so invested in the shitshow that is top flight football that they care if they win trophies or not.
    Ducking Neoliberalism.

Not at all - my view is that the appeal will be saying that we were impacted by covid to an extent that we were unable to continue to operate as a going concern - they will say the loan would have allowed us to continue to operate and that ALL of the other Chamionship clubs got that money (hence why we're in admin and no-one else is....). The fact that we couldn't get the loan because the EFL laid down rules that we couldn't meet (potentally because of the protracted appeals process that the EFL oversaw) is a minor part of the argument.
The key part is that the loan would have allowed us to trade through the covid storm - without it we were tipped over the edge and therefore can legitimately claim that we were excessively impacted by covid. All we need to do is prove that covid was the reason we went under - the underlying reasons why we were sailing so close to the edge are irrelevant if we could have continued to trade without covid impacting us (or alternatively if we'd had the extra fiunding that the other clubs had to help keep us afloat)
