Anymore incomings after a striker would result in us having to let a couple go… which for a decent midfielder I would let a couple go

I guarantee Paul, when asked for an update tomorrow will say something to the effect

"I've got half the targets in I would have liked, there is one more I'd like to do, it's footballs worse kept secret who that player is, we've tabled an offer, it's a good one, well I wouldn't turn my nose up at it, but it's down to the club. If we don't get him, so be it, will we have enough? That remains to be seen, but it's up to me to get the best out of them"

John-Jules has a severe hamstring tear according to Warne’s pre match interview, will need to see a specialist and may need surgery (suggested in a post on X by Leigh Curtis) so suspect he’s out for months not weeks

So the last we will see of him.

I think it would be very worthwhile to get Mark Thomas on one of the Derby podcasts, to give fans an insight into his day to day role and details of where they are scouting for players in both the U.K. and abroad. Over to you @SteveBloomersWatching or @Owen87ITK ???

    I think this would help.

Mark Thomas gets a bit of flack, but if he is presenting Paul with potential signings and he refused them, what can he do?

I don't want to be a doom merchant but if there is any truth in that, does it mean Cashin is being sold? It's not a position that essentially needs strengthening atm.

I wouldn't lose sleep if we sold Cashin, Bird or anyone...so long as the money we received enabled us to strengthen.

What I would be concerned with is giving Warne the Cashin money to strengthen. We may as well spend all the money on chopstix and sit there snapping them.

Its simple leave smith and target different attackers! Warne does it every window then we stuggle to find the type of player hes looking for! Then we will end up signing someone because he will panic! Shouldnt of le5 brown go until we got some in if collins gets injuried we are f***ed another bit of bad management

We will get some 18 year old with a worse goal scoring record than Brown in on loan from Tottenham on deadline day.

Now that it’s becoming apparent that there isn’t as much in the transfer kitty as we’d all hoped, it asks the question whether we have anyone in our Academy at the moment who could make the step up to the First Team?

Is Tony Weston or Dajaune Brown the out-and-out Number 9 we so desperately need? Granted Brown’s been loaned to Gateshead but we do have the option to recall him after 28 days.

Would Adebayo Fapetu be that Ball-Winning Midfielder that we hoped Fornah would be? Dare I also mention that we also have a certain Bradley Johnson as an overage Academy Player who could do that role…

Are Carlos Richards or Ben Radcliffe an option out wide or are they either not ready or not good enough?

Personally, I would much rather us take a chance on our Academy Lads that have another over 30’s lunk on a bloated salary with little or no resale value. We need players at this stage of the season who are hungry and want to fight for the shirt which seems to be missing at the moment.

For me that would be Weston & Fapetu both of which have looked good in cup games, definitely worth a gamble if we can’t get the players we want.

Be interesting to know everyone else’s thoughts

Weston, Brown, Robinson and Fapetu should have played more games between them with Weston maybe even being a starter. Fapetu looked twice the player Fornah has proven to be.

But Whilst Warne is in charge, may as well close the academy, close the case and close the thread.

And wtf happened to Korey Smith

Most probably one of the ones Warne alluded to when he said that players who don't want to be here can move on.

Maybe a bit discontent amongst the troops.

If you look at Warne's record, it's actually not that bad.

Last season we came within a kippers dick of making the playoffs after what was possibly the most turbulent time in the club's history.

And last night, we could have gone top, and yet half the board would be happy to see the guy fired.

Does anybody ever remember that level of vitriol and animosity toward a manager who didn't have us struggling? And struggling badly.

Other than possibly Dave Mackay for a short period and entirely other reasons, I cannot remember anything like it.

For some while, I just thought it was Derby fans being entitled, but after conversations with @Eatonram, it seems like we're pretty bad every game and winning in spite of ourselves rather than because of ourselves.

I have to admit that I rarely get to see Derby play these days, so I base a lot of my opinions either on highlights or on what I read. As such, I accept that 90% of posters on this forum are better informed than me.

So, does he deserve all this piling on, or should we be sticking by him?

He does deserve a fair amount.

Like you say, we came within a kippers dick of the playoffs last year. And we would have done had Warne strengthened in January. After talking about January being like Christmas shopping and speaking about improving the squad...and then not doing so.

His tactics are poor, if non-existent, he dropped our number 1 keeper, possibly our most solid keeper in terms of reliability, since Bywater.

He has no interest in the academy. Brown, Robinson, Weston should all have been integrated into this team by now.

This is possibly the easiest league 1 there will be for years, with no Ipswich and Sheff Wed's calibre clubs, so we should be taking the league by the scruff and getting out...but these last few games suggest we may struggle again.

Paul Warne isn't the worse manager we have had, but he isn't good for our long term success.

Chris Martin is a clever footballer, I can't imagine he'd want to play for Warne.

We'll be waiting on Smith and playing 'hardball' even though they know we're another striker down!

What have Warne and Thomas been doing all season in preparation for the January window?

What does Thomas bring to the party, seeing as Warnes signings tend to be people who he has managed before? Or in the case of CBT, well known in league 1 anyway.

Do we scout in Scotland, Ireland, or even League 2 and non league? 🤔

No strengthening of the midfield? 😔 That's a bit of a concern, to be honest.

Not always easy to be a Rams fan, is it?

It's just a very typical January window to be fair.

We got ourself within touching distance of top 2, a couple of good signings and we could have kicked on.

But, just like last year, we fail to strengthen the areas we need.

Within a couple of weeks top 2 is looking a tough ask and even Barnsley behind us are a point behind with a game in hand. We have arsed it up Big time.

Our number 1 striker target, we can't afford 🤣 ridiculous.
