If there is any truth in that, which is doubtful, then I imagine there will be a couple of outgoings too. End of transfer window can be a lot of fun!

We can't be letting players leave if we aren't bringing any in. We are light on numbers as it is.

  2. I wonder if something changed last minute with our finances, perhaps since the release of our accounts?

The noises leading up to January, similar to last year, were that we would be strengthening across the pitch.  I am sure Leigh Curtis had provided some positive updates leading up to Jan.

Warne was talking again about how he doesn't need to sell the club to players, they want to join.

Clowes was saying Warne had funds to strengthen.

Bids had gone in for players, Warne was watching someone who had been recommended to him, the ones we want would be starters and not squad players, etc.

Brown went out on loan, which surely was done on the understanding someone was about to join, otherwise it is a strange decision.

So what has changed? Were we shopping in Harrods with a quid all along, have our targets decided to go elsewhere, or has the rug been pulled from under us?

You do know we are 3 points from the top of the league with a game in hand.

You may wish to check that table again.

We DID have a game in hand, but we ballsed it up if you remember.

We have played the same as Pompey and it is everyone else who has a game (or 2) in hand on us.

We threw the advantage away and continue to play very badly.

    So my points still remain.

  4. It pains me to say it, but if we aren't signing anyone good, we may as well not sign anyone at all.

This year really is about quality, not quantity. I'd be offended if Warne signed kids from other clubs on loan when we seemed to have our own decent lads ready to play.

Top 2 looked a really possibility, but the last few weeks, especially lack of urgency in the window, have curbed that possibility for me.

May aswell keep our powder dry, see if by some miracle we go up this year and if not, hope our summer recruitment is a damn sight better than last years, hopefully helped by the sale of Bird and Cashin.

Vickers is now on -2.6 goals prevented vs Wildsmith's +0.6. It's the equivalent to us conceding 11 goals more than we already have done if Vickers had played in every game. That's also not taking into account the goal line clearance to help us out by the Cheltenham player.

There is clearly something at play we aren't aware of.

Most fans I have spoke to are of the same opinion, Vickers is a good keeper, could be a number 1 at many league 1 clubs, but not a clue how or why Wildsmith has been dropped and would have him back in as number 1.

One could argue our once defensive solidity has gone since Forsyth and Nyambe got injured/AFCON, but also, since Wildsmith was dropped.

For all the humorous comment it’s already a different January to last year isn’t it? We signed a player who is allegedly capable at this level, for a fee, a player who’s a good age and not “past it” nor is he an unproven premier league loan.
We need further reinforcements clearly but I don’t agree that it’s comparable to last Jan at this point.

    That is a fair argument.

I also did say that this year is about quality rather than quantity.

It feels like we are light by 2 players. and its a shame, had we integrated Weston, Robinson and Brown more, we might not actually be looking that way.

    No.

Nyambe will be back soon and we won't concede more than another 10 goals all season. Be like a new signing.

Brown will return from his loan a fully formed first team player and lead us to glorious victory with a play-off final hattrick.

    Except Warne won't play Brown.

We have sent him out on loan and we will replace him with a young player with a worse goal scoring record on loan from a prem club.

    Warnock, no thanks.

    Really?

It always surprises me when someone says no to him.

We would have had at least 1 more premier league season under our belt had we got Warnock instead of Lampard imo.

His football might not be too dissimilar from Warnes. But Warnock knows the game, has far more contacts than Warne. And if he can make Sol Bamba a premier league footballer he is capable of anything.

Excellent performance from Collo yet again today, sheer hard work, some superb defensive headers and a brilliant goal , where would we be without him

    Top of the table?

Because without him we wouldn't be scoring, we wouldn't be as high in the table, Clowes may have been pressured into sacking Warne, a new manager comes in, a new striker is signed, he scores more than Collins, we are top.

    Simple 😉

Could other managers improve us or make our performances more interesting?🤔

The amount of games we have 0 shots is just bizarre- just shoot , you might get a deflection or lucky bounce , struth

Problem is and I think the real issue, is that Paul works the players so hard in training that by the 2nd half of the season they completely shagged out.

So as much as I'd love Neil Warnock to come in and save us, I think the damage is done.
