Because some people will be overly negative and turn anything they can against PW because they’ve already made up their minds that I don’t like him.
I can understand some players may not want to play for him, because of his management style or whatever, but that’s not to say that others won’t want to play for him. He’s managed to get players to join who have been good enough to get promoted 3 separate times. And that’s at a club with less money and less impressive facilities.
People are wetting themselves because we need x amount of players and haven’t signed anyone yet. If we’re in this position in a month, fair enough, but holidays haven’t ended yet, contracts haven’t ended yet, pre-season hasn’t started yet.

Didn’t we get a 25 goal scorer at the start of last season on a lower budget?

I genuinely don't understand why I've just seen "League two is a bigger pull than Warne"
It's not league two. It's Notts County. It's his club. He wants to retire there. Fair play. Could have stayed here for more money. He's literally just said himself that no other club he would have gone for.
Internally they would have known about this for ages. I would imagine that Mcgoldrick has said "Look if Notts go up there's a chance I could go back there and I'd want to"
I wish him nothing but the best. Was unbelievable for us last season and without him we'd have been nowhere.
But that was the season of his life and we cannot be relying on him to do that again. We need 3-4 strikers chipping in with 8-15 goals each. We need wide players chipping in with 5-10.
It's not just about replacing Mcgoldricks goals with an individual it needs to be spread.
Other than Hourihane and NML. Goals from other areas of the team were pitiful.
But fans using this as a stick to beat Warne or the club with are a joke.

Would not have mattered what Warne and Derby offered once a player's heart is set on moving to his boyhood club so no issue with this move.
Players come and go the trick is replacing with better this move would have been known about for weeks. Look forward to seeing where we move on bringing players in
Best of luck Didzy been a joy to have you with us.

I posted in another thread, in terms of creativity there is few better that we could chance upon this season that Rodrigues.
In terms of 'smart passes' per 90 - he averaged 2.83 per 90 minutes 45% accuracy. Kevin De Bruyne is the only player with a better rate per 90 than that in English football, yet he couldn't get anywhere close to that accuracy - 37.8% for him. It actually means that Rodrigues completed 1.27 per 90, with KDB at 1.17 per 90.
Smart passes are defined as: 'A creative and penetrative pass that attempts to break the opposition's defensive lines to gain a significant advantage in attack'.
None of our midfielders even came close to competitive in this regard, all of them were below average and quite frankly poor. No surprise for those that watched us this season. Mind numbing lack of vision and creativity at times.
How he would deal with the step up is anyone's guess but I feel like he would quite comfortably walk into our squad and be our most creative player and would at least try and force the issues - which is something we severely lacked last season.

If he wanted to stay he would have signed by now.
Whilst I'd be disappointed to see him go. I honestly don't think he would have hit those heights again next season or played as much.
We're a bigger club, in a higher division who would have offered more money. But he just wants to end his career at the club he supports. Can't begrudge him that.
    Good luck to him.

Didn’t Roberts finish the season as the lwb/left sided midfielder with Cashin, Davies and Forsyth as the back 3?
Cashin and two new blokes for the back 3 with Forsyth and another as options. Roberts can play there if called upon but we make him first choice lwb and spend the preseason training him to play that role exactly how Warne wants him to, building on the promise he showed in that position at times last season and the understanding that was already evident, extra work improving the crossing, encouraging him to take on more shots like the absolute beauty he scored last year….problem sorted. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Roberts was one of the better players in the final run of the season, was consistent, covered defensively down the left and strode forward into midfield.

I would guess we can anticipate a tribunal figure of between £1.5m and £2m for Jason Knight - which I think is a fair value.
If a team wants him this season then they can make the move early, for an additional fee. I think it’s best for everyone if he is moved on, as he can be replaced. Korey Smith does the same job for us as Knight, if we can we can replace Knight with a player who offers more production and creativity then it puts us in a much better position already. Unlikely, but if you were able to turn the Knight money into Aaron Collins, a player who does produce goals and assists regularly, it would give us a much better threat going forward. As I said, in terms of someone running around and keeping the ball ticking over then Korey Smith can do that.

So we’ve all probably seen the article from the Ireland national manager saying that Knight is close to leaving. Figured it was time to open a thread for him.

I don’t mind Knight going. I don’t mind international managers wanting their players playing at a higher level.
I do think their gaffer has overstepped saying he’s close to moving. It isn’t his place to say, surely that belongs to Knight, Derby or the new club.

    anyway all the best Knighty.

I downloaded Wyscout for a trial run to see if it’s something that I would find of interest so did a little bit of a deep dive on the players we have been linked with so far.
Anyone that knows the Wyscout platform will already be aware it’s an absolutely fascinating and groundbreaking tool for scouting players and teams.
The most notable data point I came away with was that Ruben Rodrigues made the most ‘smart passes’ in the country last season with 131. A smart pass is defined as: A creative and penetrative pass that attempts to break the opposition's defensive lines to gain a significant advantage in attack.
To give you a reference point of just how high that is, not a single player in League Two had more than 40. Chaplin and Bannan ran away with it in League One with 58 each, third had 39. Mendez-Laing had 16 as our best midfielder in that regard, Knight second with just 12. The app also clips videos of several different indicators for each match - 40 minutes dedicated to just Ruben Rodrigues touches, 175 videos. He’s a talented football, a little bit of a grafter and based on what I’ve seen I would be surprised if he didn’t make the step up comfortably. The only reference point that I felt fell short was his impact on the counter attack, but he’s definitely got a bit of physicality. I think with a full, professional pre-season then he genuinely could be a diamond at this level.

Someone who's scored 43 goals in over two seasons in league one in a poor side is exactly the type we need.
Warne says he wants players between 25-30 and whilst he's at the top end of that he can clearly finish. We more than likely will be playing a 352 next season so we need at least 4 strikers and having 2 of last season's top scorers in the ranks will surely be a good thing.
We're in League One and we need good league one players and he's one of them.

2 successive years of 20goals in a pretty average L1 team seems decent unless I’m  missing something.

Yeah, it would be nice to bring in a striker with a decent level of production at this level rather than taking a chance on a championship player who may have been off it in the past couple of years. I think the fee is more than reasonable to allow him to move on. We need a couple of options upfront, perhaps three if McGoldrick moves on.

    Two things stop me worrying:
    1. His age; while this isn't an issue in terms of individual ability, we're looking at a squad overhaul/rebuild, ideally we'll be signing a striker or 2 to build a team around, which can't happen with a 35 year old as our main striker.
    2. While the prospect of losing a 25-goal a season striker seems daunting, next season the goal responsibility has to be shared more evenly amongst the squad. If we get this balance of play right, we shouldn't need a single talisman to bag 20+ goals. I'd argue it's better to have 3 players hitting 10+ than a single player on 30+...
So while ideally he'll be sticking around, I don't believe it's catastrophic if he does leave, we'll just need to be astute with our recruitment.

I personally don't think 7/8 players is enough.
We have lost 8 in McGee Davies Chester Stearman Roberts Dobbin White Springett
They all need replacing, then maybe at least another 3 to have abit of squad depth unlike this season, plus we want players in their correct positions, not Smith, Knight or Sibley out of position.
I can see us playing 3421/343 next season based off Warnes comments about 9s & 10s.
    GK - Wildsmith Loach NEW
    RWB - NEW NEW
CB - Cashin Forsyth NEW NEW NEW
    LWB - NEW NEW
CM - Bielik Knight Smith Hourihane Bird
CAM/WING - NML Sibley Barkhuizen NEW NEW
ST - McGoldrick Collins NEW NEW
Thats 13 new players, wanting 2 strikers may seem excessive but Warne does sometime play 2 up top, so maybe someone who can play upfront or CAM, or maybe 1 new CAM plus McGoldrick then 2 new strikers. A squad of 25/26 seems about right for the number of games, injuries & suspensions. For context, we used 22 this season whereas Sheff W, Peterborough & Ipswich used 28, Bolton 30, Plymouth 32 & Barnsley 34
Bielik is likely to go, would need to replace him with a 'destroyer' type player. Then replace any other outgoings named above too.
Could possibly keep McGee & Roberts which would mean the amount of actual 'new' players is less.
I can see Rooney, Oduroh & Thompson going out on loan.

Although I was absolutely  ecstatic over beating Leeds, however, for clear class the play-off 2nd leg semi-final against Brighton was pure joy to watch, from a team that should have just murdered QPR in the final.
That poxy, last minute goal was heart breaking.

    Yes it’s that bloody game!
Yes there is a lot we can look at and dissect, how the players celebrated, how Jody Morris celebrated it, Lampard’s 11 in the play off final, Lampard’s failure in not getting that squad promoted, Morris’ spending gamble, the comparisons of then to now etc etc etc
But I can promise any Derby or other clubs fans reading this, I don’t think I’d trade you anything for the jubilation and emotions I felt that night. It didn’t mean anything in the end no, but it’s a game like this that watching football is all about. It’s not just an achievement feeling, it’s about doing the impossible
