    Agree.
If Percy's info is accurate and we're saying the only deal is with a loan-back then I can't see a 'footballing' side showing an interest.
Cashin can defend and win headers....and he's as tough as nails and committed. He's a very decent player in league 1.......and a much better 'footballer' than the current system allows him to be.
But he would develop more by training alongside very high calibre players for a year than lumping long diagonals in league 1. Why would you buy a player you think you can develop and then watch them stagnate?
Let's not forget that they binned Roberts after a year of 'development' with us.
I wouldn't be surprised if the loan-back is the sticking point rather than the fee.

How many have played loads of games for us and gone onto bigger things?
If he goes to brighton they'll be sending him out to play in the championship or a top side in league one. Playing in our current team is no good for him - brighton will be better for his development

My personal opinion is not to criticise clowes.
Hes the reason we have a club. Hes running it sustainably so we dont have this threat again.
Sure the decisions hes made may not pay off but thats normal in life and business.

We started going downhill last season as the team tired as all Warne teams tire. The worry now is we are dross when we should be at our freshest.

The only reason not to is they way Warne is wasting him. Why do we need more money, we've still got some budget for Warne to waste on more lead-legged cbs. Who is old enough to replace Cash do you think?

In terms of league ranking, yes.
In terms of overall team quality and managerial talent, it's making a solid claim.

It's got nothing to do with losing to 'lowly Oxford', and btw the big chip on the shoulders of third-division teams gets a bit tiresome tbh. It's got everything to do with how we played, how we have played in the past, and our current lack of a plan. We weren't good enough for our standards, for where we want to be, which is like any team near the top of the division. I thought you were good value for your win, and if we had nicked a point at the end it would have been criminal. You looked like everything we were not; well-organised, quick, strong, and well-balanced.

I hope that this wasn't your main takeaway from reading this thread. We have another thread somewhere for league predictions and a lot of us do think you will be right up there come the end of the season. So it's not arrogance in that 'Oh, we should be smashing Oxford, no questions asked'.
Our frustration is that, usually, we are so, so good at home. Whether it's against Ilkeston Town, Oxford United, or Arsenal, we would give anyone a good game at Pride Park (primarily attractive football played by technically good footballers). What we all saw last night is not what we have been used to - no identity, no intensity, and (seemingly) no coaching. And we justifiably got taken apart by the better team.

We're not being disrespectful at all to Oxford. It's not the fact that you beat us that's the issue. You were really, really good, and you deserved the win. We're derby, we lose all the time, we're used to it.
We're more upset at how badly we're set up. How the players have seemingly already given up, how the system is toss, and how our manager has taken a team and made it worse. By a long, long margin. We can take losing, it's just the manner of not competing at all. We should not be pinned into our own half for long stages at home. Blackpool had the ball for 7 solid minutes at pride park the other day. Go and set a timer for 7 minutes, and imagine watching your team run aimlessly around trying to get the ball back. At home.
Best of luck for the rest of the season. Your fans were decent last night.

To be fair, how are you supposed to marshal a defence if you don't understand your own role in it? None of them look comfortable with the system so why would they be vocal about others when they're struggling to do their own jobs?

That is the most misleading statement I constantly see about Warne since he landed at Derby - as you rightly say, it's almost like a magic trick at this stage. Below are Rotherham's last 9 seasons - 6 of them at Championship level & 3 of them at League One. Warne presided over 3 of those 6 Championship seasons & in every one, he relegated them. By contrast, Neil Redfearn, Neil Warnock & Matt Taylor (last season) kept them up in the respective seasons they were in charge.
    Warne's promotions were all with a recent Championship squad - he did not build it from scratch, he had an inbuilt advantage with their recent division & returned them to where they had generally been. Stating 'promoted three times' sounds like successive promotions when in reality it was correcting his own poor performance from the season previously;

As to the general point about Warne's future, the atmosphere both in the ground & on social media suggest he is very much living on borrowed time. His failure to reach the playoffs in May was met with a very muted reaction as people seemed to believe the summer would allow him to put his imprint on the squad both from a personnel & a tactical standpoint. Having shown such patience after throwing away a playoff spot in Feb/March, there now appears to be delayed anger at the very poor start & I can't say I'm surprised.
Obviously the recruitment situation hasn't totally played out until the window closes but I have been thoroughly confused as to the direction of travel. We needed pace throughout the team, we needed midfield aggression & we have not addressed either. Warne's teams like to press high but we buy slow defenders who struggle against the counter attack. We lose a pivotal forward who gave us goals & creativity & replace him belatedly with two burly workhorses up top. Clowes says he has the budget to compete & I would trust that - Warne by contrast is now speaking in riddles on the radio about private reasons why all isn't as it seems. Not the kind of comments to help your future employment prospects when your team is playing so badly.

Hes on borrowed time and Clowes has a decision to make and whichever it is , its gonna cost him a shed load of money.
Keep warne on and crowds will drop, 4/5k drop at £20 ahead is nearly 100k a game.
Sack him, then you need to pay him and his assistant's their contracts.
Big decision, but personally I'd get rid. It looks like he's lost the dressing room, the fan base are turning on him at a rapid rate.
Even more so is that with each game our assets who will command a fee ( Bird/Cashin) look lost in this anti football warne has adopted and there price is dropping.
We need a club that has youngsters coming through and we still have rooney,Thomson, sibley along with bird and cashin who I would want to build a team around but it requires a manager who understands technical abilities and Warne is one who doesn't.

I think the problem with Warneball is that we don't seem to be able to play it.
My understanding of the manager's tactics is -
Get the ball forward quickly and attack with aggression at pace but with the extra centre back providing a bit of a shield for when we lose the ball.
Use the wingbacks for width and get early crosses into the box, with two strikers and at least one midfielder trying to get on the end of them.
Press high, hard and as a team to force errors and get possession high up the pitch. The extra defender again provides cover for when the press is broken.
Most free kicks and corners driven into the box, where our well drilled players make the most of the opportunities.
Train hard to give our players superior fitness.
Have a strongly supportive team ethic so players do not fear making mistakes and bust a gut to cover for each other.

To me, that all makes sense. The problems are that we aren't doing very much of it and too many of the new recruits don't appear suited to it.
Someone said we're fickle as fans. No we're not, we're just fans. Like all fans we want results, good football (whatever you define that as) and to feel the team are giving their all. Ideally a manager gives you all three, but most fans will remain supportive if any two of those are achieved. Eventually every fan will turn anti if none are achieved, and that's where we are right now. Paul Warne needs to change things very quickly or he'll be Warne out.
