Excellent win.  Players in attacking areas played in the right position.
This is ALMOST exactly what we wanted from Warne.
McGoldrick was as magnificent today as he was poor in the last game coming on as a sub.
Going 4-1 up when we did should never present the opposition a chance to get back into it, there shouldn't be any thought in the fanbase that we could throw it away.
We tightened it up after the break but probably should have done that earlier, avoid the situation where the penalty is awarded.
That said aren't these the team who got promoted on the last day of the season scoring 7 goals?
3/5 at the back today and I don't think we see that performance or anywhere close.

I'm "bragging" about being right when a bunch of Forest and Bristol trolls were wrong. I'd like to say I'm sorry if that upsets you, but I'm not.
As reprehensible as Mel Morris' failure to pay the bills he ran up is, if you think that the missing £20m would have ended up in Nurses pay packets, hospital beds, increased universal credit payments or even the pockets of basic rate taxpayers, you might want to do a little more research into the policies of the Conservative Party.
But well done for criticising something I didn't say.

A very likely scenario I’d say, given the fact one can get the freedom of the city for getting relegated. Apparently.

Excellent first half in particular I thought.
Looking forwards to a quiet night on the forum tonight.

Unless you have a team full of engines, three at the back is far too defensive for this league as half the team ends up being behind the ball.
How refreshing was it to have four attacking players up there, pressing, interchanging, charging the channels, forcing errors.
When we played it long, it was literally a 50-50. You can’t say that when we play three at the back as the wingbacks are too deep to press.

Basically just a thread created to have a thinly veiled pop at Rosenior and anyone who was supportive of what he was trying to achieve, disguised as a thread about the quality of the forum. But please don't say anything negative about anyone else.
    Laughable. Blatant.

Yep, the question / challenge is how you go about getting from A or B to C.
It has to be A to C or B to C though, going A to B, or B to A, will never get you to C!
If A suits the players you've got / the ones you've been able to bring in under restrictions, play with A, but keep an eye on C and recruit (once allowed more free reign) players with the attributes to get you there.
CBA with this all this ABC? I don't blame you.

Some of the posts on this thread exemplify the 'wall of denial' I mentioned before.
I don't believe anyone thinks the Warne's methods are solely the reason for the injuries, and maybe not even the main one, just a contributing factor, but their concerns are met with an outright - and I know I'm using the same meme twice in quick succession -

If a 4 year contract means we finally stick with something and see it through, allow a manager his poor spells and give him the opportunity to work through them, rather than panicking and dropping the axe at the first sign of trouble then no, it's not a mistake.
(Unless we actually get relegated, but that's not going to happen)

Yes Dave, it's called guilt by association! ?
The buck stops with the manager, for both the rough and the smooth. It simply has to.
Rosenior's tenure can only be considered what went on under his games as the manager, and that's strictly this season. Everything before that was Cocu or Rooney's tenure, whether Rosenio was a common denominator or not.
Although...  if you want to give Rosenior an equal or even greater footing than Rooney when talking about the positives of last season and not just the negatives, then sure. Get onto the Council about awarding Liam the Freedom of the City. ?
Our best player under Rosenior (most would agree) was Mendez-Laing, which doesn't really reconcile with the idea of a team told purely to be tippy-tappy, never creating space and never getting the ball forward to a Derby player. Unless the players were ignoring instructions?
I thought it pretty was clear that our intent this season was already to mix up the tempo up a bit more tbh - maybe not as much as some would like - but if you don't have the players how are you going to do that?
Since Warne has come in we've tried to make this change of tempo to the level that most seem to desire, but it's had some adverse effects, the players don't just look knackered after a few games. Some of them are actually knackered, sent off to the appropriate yard for a month or two to recover!

Whether it's last ditch or not, the more time the opposition spends in possession of the football inside of your box the more opportunity there will be for flashpoints, which may or may not lead to a penalty.
Playing with wingers as wing backs and no with dedicated central midfielder given a shielding role (Bird is being allowed forward more), you're always likely to face more of these situations.
We had a penalty given against us vs Ipswich, but there was a call to be made earlier in the game too with a tackle by NML. Thankfully on that occasion the referee got it right, but does NML strike you as a player with a natural affinity toward defending who should be put in that position to begin with?

That’s a very good point. I don’t know the answer. All I can think of is that he had to recruit some players just to put a squad together and he was allowed to sign these as they appeared to be quality players who would add to any squad in league 1. I just find it hard to believe that Clowes would have relieved him of his duties so early when he was doing “OK” given the hand he was dealt. Maybe Clowes is more ruthless than we think which, is a little concerning.

I do like Liam and appreciate his efforts as a young ambitious coach. It's quite possible that if he was in a similar position managing a 2nd / 3rd tier club in Spain or Holland, he would have the players and tactics to achieve success and progress in management.
Obviously Liam didn't fit the bill for the new DCFC owner. Mr Clowes looked at Warne's achievements at Rotherham and decided that he is 'the ticket' back to the championship.
Personally I haven't seen a lot of Rotherham, so I honestly don't know what Warne's football ideology really is. I do know that we need to escape from L1 asap, and if Warne is able to deliver on that, I am not too concerned about the style football he opts for.

Last year when we were in the middle of our worst existential crisis since the last one, we said we'd love it if we were saved and all we'd got to talk about was tactics.
Now we're here, we have our wish, and somehow we aren't supposed to talk about tactics. Why not? It's why we all signed up to the messageboard in the first place.
I absolutely defend anybody's right to do just that! If you disagree, put the opposing point of view.

May Contain Nuts reacted to brady1993 in Fitness, Performance and Tactics
So 5 league games into Warne's tenure and I think a pattern is emerging. The short version of this Warne isn't managing the fitness levels of the squad very well which when combined with a very narrow tactical outlook is leading to some of the mediocre performances we've been seeing. And there is reason to be concerned that if this isn't adjusted things will go downhill.
    Tactics
As everyone knows we've been setting up under Warne with a 352 with an attempt at pressing aggressively and attacking directly. With the two wingbacks being actually wingers. It's not hard to see how setting up like this asks a lot physically of any given player. With the wingbacks so aggressive there is often a lot of space to cover out wide meaning the midfield and the wider centre backs are often having to cover large swaths of ground just to plug gaps. I think a big reason why we've conceded so many penalties is because of how easily we can get stretched.
Also the midfield are all encouraged to press meaning there is no one to cover so they all have to keep moving or else again gaps appear. Then added on top of all of this is a seeming reluctance to try to keep the ball for any amount of time, even when we are up and even when we are looking gassed. I can remember times even when we've won that we were in a position just to slow the game down and keep the ball to take the sting out of the game only for players to be encouraged to go recklessly forwards.
What this leads to is almost an exhaustive amount of work than isn't entirely necessary and it's no wonder that frequently gaps starting really appearing in games for us after half time. I think the best example for this is in Warne's first game in charge we were one up and yet we are taking a long throw into the box with all the centre backs up field which is followed by a counter which all of them have to sprint back.
    Fitness
Its worth noting that we had a short pre season meaning that the players didn't necessarily have the time to do the same amount of fitness work. Combined into this is several players carrying knocks at different stages in pre-season and most of the squad is either on one side or the other of where you'd expect them to be at their fittest from an age perspective. In short our squad isn't the fittest but that's not something you can solve in the short term. It's also exercabated by lack of depth in places. It's something as a manager you should be carefully managing both from a team selection stand point and from a tactical stand point. And yet Warne has often kept players playing well past the point they've looked knackered and players playing physically overdemanding positions are often getting started multiple times in a week. And I think you are seeing the effect this is having. Its no surprise that we've had now 4 injuries in 3 games and it shouldn't be taken lightly.
    Performance
A more tired player is more likely to get injured. But also a player who is fatigued is going to be worse, they'll suddenly look a yard off the pace or their touch will desert them or they'll seemingly drift by in a game. Being tired affects you mentally as well as physically and I think so-so isn't doing enough can often be because they are knackered out. These things tend to spiral as well because if X is tiring, Y has to work harder to cover which leads to them tiring and so on.
Our best performances under Warne have come after an international and after a full week off. Whilst all of our performances where we've played Tuesday-Saturday have been mediocre at best. This isn't a coincidence, fatigue is leading to a drop off in performance levels. It's concerning that Warne is saying that we just aren't working hard enough because it means he's likely missing the forest for the trees.
    Going Forwards
We are currently in a very congested run of fixtures with another 5 games in the next 14 days. Thats a tough run physically on any squad. If things go they way they've been so far I think we will so another couple players pick up injuries and performances steadily get worse. The tactics and the management of players are just causing to much fatigue to build in a squad ill-equipped for it. And it's increasingly looking like Warne with his tactical rigidity and his focus on not working hard enough in his recent interview either doesn't seem where the issues is stemming from or doesn't have a solution.
After all if your only tool is a hammer every problem is a nail.

What people are forgetting, Barnsley, Wycombe and Peterborough are 3 very good League 1 sides, all of which were towards of the top of the bookmakers odds for promotion at the beginning of the season. Our losses came to Charlton, Plymouth and Lincoln, with Plymouth looking like they're going to go up automatically.
On the other hand, under Warne we've:
Beat Cambridge and Accrington, two average League One sides.
Lost to Port Vale and drawn to Exeter, two promoted sides.
Lost to Ipswich, who look on for promotion.

There probably is a third option missing which is ‘neither of the above’ and a fourth which is ‘bits of both’ ’ (I’d like a 5th too.. Steve Mac’s style please).

What you really want to see is something that works.  Any football looks bad when what you’re trying to do isn’t working for whatever reason (wrong players, wrong opposition, wrong officials etc).  I can’t believe Rosenior wanted our possession play to be lethargic, but the players probably didn’t have the confidence or ability to do what he wanted at a high enough tempo, to accept the ball under pressure, to move it quickly etc. So you get ponderous ‘safe’ play that doesn’t look good.
I doubt Warne wants to keep losing possession by lumping it forward with nobody to receive it, or to not get to 2nd balls and not break up play in the middle, not press high or hard enough etc, but he hasn’t the players who can play like that (seemingly). So it looks like we haven’t got a clue, don’t create chances, don’t have a clear pattern of play and it looks bad.
Both managers were/are at an early stage in their Derby careers and both would/will need more time to find a way of playing with the squad they have that works.
When that happens, whether it be possession based or more direct, it will probably be more successful and as a result will (probably) look better and be more entertaining - or, at the very least, the aesthetic limitations will be forgiven or overlooked if we are getting better results (Wee Billy and Rowett probably prove my theory because although relatively successful it wasn’t pretty to watch, but they weren’t criticised that much for their style - at least while they were here).
Steve Mac’s style was lovely to watch, but if he’d tried that without having the players to match would it have been a disaster of high tempo frantic passing and losing the ball and being exposed at the back and so on and so forth.
Anyway, Roseniors way probably wasn’t working for many and he’s gone. Warne’s way isn’t really working at the moment, but he’s here, probably here to stay and so let’s see if he can work it out. I have some hope we will, but time will tell.

It's almost like people are surprised that the quality of the play from us would start to wane after a few games of a fairly robust schedule, and then conveniently ignoring the circumstances surrounding the buildup to our season, make up of the squad, fitness levels smaller clubs raising their game against us, all of that.
They'd rather have a fall guy.
You can blame it on Rosenior's style if you like, but it was always going to happen just as the initial bout of energy seen under Warne has fallen away to some equally poor (some would say even worse) performances.

If Rosenior did the recruitment, but Warne took over the team from the first game of the season, where would we be?

Whats kept this club going over the last eighteen months has been the relationship between the supporters the different management teams and the encouragement towards players, the all in this together, never give up, fight to the end attitude that has served us well unfortunately seems to be disappearing fast.
I will not criticise Rosenior or any player that decided to stay or sign for this club in extraordinary times.
Considering that just a few months back we were on the verge of folding then handing the club to Kirchner, had five players under contract, were scouring the leagues for loan kids, ageing players out of contract and had no pre season the performances so far are to quote a well known ex manager of this famous football club “nothing short of remarkable”.
