I think he understood that he needed to take one for the team though, and didn't half arse the 'challenge' he knew would bring the yellow like some would.

Looking at the squad/team no lasting judgement on the performance tonight from me. Very unfortunate that we're facing a good team at a bad time for us.
If we get something from the game I'll be full of praise for everyone involved. Even if I may end up too inebriated to actually post it.
Oh for a forum where everyone was as fair as me ?

Ya know chaps and chapettes, folk are allowed to think Liam was treated poorly and should have been given more time AND that the cheeky chappy in charge is doing alright too. I do.
The endless carping and backbiting from BOTH sides has gone on long enough and to be honest it's getting really tiresome now.

    Davies - missed 5 in a row
    Chester - only 1 app
Smith - returning from injury and still missed 5 games
McGoldrick - missed the first 3 games and was buikding up his fitness
Osula and Dobbin - weren't with us at the start of the season

    Oh, you meant Warne?

Just looked at the map around Fratton Park and noticed the Staggeringly Good Brewery on the industrial estate just north of the stadium. It says that it opens at 5pm. I think I'd be heading there for a prematch drink if I was going to the game. It's got dinosaurs!

I think PW post game comments were completely fair and justified. It was a good performance but it was a game we should never have been playing in the first place.

I think the naivety of some of the young lads showed last night, at 2-0 they thought the game was over and took their foot of the gas, we nearly allowed them back into the game. I’d imagine PW also wasn’t happy with the complacency and that’s why he wasn’t as upbeat.

Also I found posters quoting comments about Dobbins finishing after he scored a 20 yard volley rather odd. That strike doesn’t change the fact he has missed far easier chances this season and doesn’t now make him a “natural finisher”. What’s clear though is he does have bags of ability, he gets himself into the right positions constantly to be able to be on the end of these chances. If he was a better finisher he’d be our leading goal scorer by a long way but then it’s likely he would be on loan at the championship or higher.
Massive game on Friday night, winning games and scoring goals is a morale boost no matter who you’re playing. Hope we take the same clinical finishing into the game on Friday!

I think Warne’s post match comments were fair and reasonable.

There were plenty of bright spots and we ran out comfortable winners - let’s be pleased about that but not get carried away. As he said, the game was very open and whilst we could easily have scored a couple more Torquay “could” have bagged 2 or 3.

I seem to remember an absolute worldy not doing much to improve the subsequent goal scoring record of young master Bennett?
Let's hope tonight's cracker has a more positive outcome.

8-18 yards out with the chance to strike it, excellent. Takes it early, catches the keeper off-guard.
Everything else needs work (first touch can be very erratic) but physically (nearly) he has it all, and he wouldn't be the first to become a bit of a GOAT from lambly beginnings .

Totally agree. For the minutes played his contribution with regard to goals and assists far outweighs that of any of our other midfielders. Whilst I hope Sibley will come good and realise his potential, the constant clamouring by certain posters for his inclusion in the starting line up is clearly without justification.

I agree he's started playing better (who wouldn't agree !?), but whether it's because he's working harder or he's simply getting fitter is up for debate I think. Having not been to any away games I can't really comment on how much he's moved around in them though!
If you look how much football he's played (or rather hasn't played) in recent seasons...
    17/18 3,431  (equiv. 38.1 full games)
    18/19 3,496  (equiv. 38.8 full games)
    19/21 2.032  (equiv. 22.6 full games)
    20/21 1,947  (equiv. 21.6 full games)
    21/22 1,626  (equiv. 18.1 full games)
22/23 so far - 1,446' (equiv. 16.1 full games) for the season so is well on course to eclipse recent amounts.
    *club appearances only
...I don't think it's any surprise he's had a slow start here, nor that his form is picking up with playing more games?

    Just as I feared really.
(Well no, not feared because what Forest do has no bearing on any aspect of my life outside of the occasional forum post)
No matter how much of a mess Forest are themselves, how limp their early season form and how weak comparatively their team still is to others (even after spending £150m), they've gone up into a league where 70% of the teams appear to have have completely shat themselves and are competing to be the biggest underachievers.
Similar (but at the reverse end of the table) to the Leicester title winning season where nobody else really seemed to want the league (that's not discrediting Leicester, but we all know the big boys f***** up just as much as they did well)  Forest are in with a genuine chance of staying up (even if it's still slim) because the bottom half of the league can't get their crap together and seem determined to lose their own Premier League status.
Just need some of their rivals to lose key players due to to injury and/or come back exhausted from the bloody stupidly timed World Cup and it's the perfect storm for them to take advantage with one good run of form in Jan/Feb to give them a buffer that sees them scrape through until the end of the season.
Or maybe it's just another sign that the sportswashed w***** clubs have become too strong by and the bottom half is just a free-for-all of mediocrity?

That's why you buy players like McGoldrick, Hourihane, Smith, Barkhuizen, Mendez-Laing & Collins and put them alongside Bird, Knight, Cashin - whilst not 'top tier technical' they all have more than enough technical ability to do well in this league and play good football.
A player's abilities won't intrinsically improve just because they're asked to run around more. You will get a better press off the ball but that only gets you so far, you still need quality on it to do anything.
The players will still have the same limitations they already had, but now the older players will tire quicker, the less technically capable players will end up rushing things, and the technically less gifted older players will both tire more and make more mistakes because they're being asked to play at a tempo above their capabilities.
Or at least that's the risk, it's certainly how it looked toward the end against Ipswich.
Players who's skillset is already based on pace on athleticism will benefit - just as long as the players supplying them with the ball aren't knackered or playing rushed, sloppy passes - but due to our limitations in the transfer market we don't have a great deal of those sort of players in our squad.
People can complain about Rosenior's football being slow (in the most cliched, exaggerative terms possible) but in some ways it was dictated by what was available to him, what suited a number of his players at this stage of their careers.
Was the balance right? No probably not. Is the balance right so far under Warne? No probably not. If Warne can find a way to mitigate against the risks using the existing squad, so we don't just trade one problem for another, wonderful. If not we'll be needing a few transfer windows to change the faces up.
