I have always felt that throwing on an extra defender sends out a negative mindset. You are telling the opposition we have settled for what we have. You invite them to send more players forward and instinctively you drop deeper, more likely to commit fouls closer to the box.
It always used to be the Nigel classic with Buxton. Personally I prefer not changing the back line unless you are forced to. That said there are times when it is the right move, depending on the flow of the match.
I don't believe sending on an extra defender should be the default position when winning 1-0 with 10 to go. Much prefer to see a more confident approach, especially if we have been the better team across the whole game.

Good evening ladies and gents. It’s going to be another chilly night on 5th December for Derby v Fleetwood. Here’s hoping for a decent game and a few goals to warm our cockles 😆

I don’t find that it is a particularly boring league, some clubs try to play football. The ball is in the air a lot because we put it there. Why put in endless crosses and lumps forward if we don’t have the type of forward to take advantage. How many times did we give the ball away last night through 2 or 3 passes and pump it forward to the opposition to play with.
The fact that we won does not in my opinion mean that I should be satisfied with our football.
A lovely cross on the ground by NML for JJ to tap in.
    #keep it on the grass.

Collins 1st half, Just outside the area...shoots hard and low, Keeper makes the save...bog standard, But, A more clever player would/should have lobbed the keeper as he was way off his line, Hindsight is a wonderful thing...but seeing the highlights shows how much more skill in the squad can make the difference from average to very good.
PS I'm a Collins fan, She was a tasty piece in her day 😁

Derby are in this position because of recruitment. Recruitment is what makes teams either successful or not.
Clubs that actually use intricate statistical data such as Brighton and Brentford have exceeded expectations because their recruitment has seen them purchase players with huge potential while selling players for big fees to fund their progress.
Clubs like Derby meanwhile just saw somebody like Nick Blackman was scoring goals elsewhere and signed him without any thought of why he is scoring goals, what his best position is and how he can fit in to Derby’s current playing style.
We broke a club record fee on a player just because he became available hours previously. He wasn’t even a target. We had no idea where he would fit in. Literally an agent just called Derby and said this player is available, and Derby said yes we will buy him.
That is why we are in the third division. No plan on recruitment. Just throwing cash around like it’s confetti. We had 5 years of careful recruitment under Nigel Clough ruined in just one summer by Mel.
XG in isolation doesn’t mean much. We beat Port Vale. We had an XG of 0.7. All that matters is we scored, they didn’t, 3 points. However, in terms of the bigger picture, statistical data plays a huge role in modern football.

Not that I’ve made any negative comments
But the McClaren team ruined football for me, I compare all subsequent Derby teams to it and I likely will until it’s bettered/I die 😂

A good win against a team who really left everything out on the pitch. Credit to Vale, who I thought would fold under the slightest bit of pressure, but they were a lot better than I expected and a lot of teams we have played this season. No wins in 11 looks bad, but they’re losing games to the finest of margins which must be a nightmare for their fans, staff and players.
Despite the win, I felt it was very on trend with our season and performances so far. We are so inefficient with our final third entries, which has been a cornerstone of this Derby side under Warne since he got into the job. McGoldrick was able to pull some rabbits out of the hat last season, but we don’t have that this season and often I come away baffled by our lack of cutting edge and innovation in the final third: too many crosses just being hit in blindly or fizzed across straight into the first man. Warne and Co can surely draw up some designs for final third entires so the players have a vague idea of how to approach it - it looks very disjointed in the final play of our build up, whereas the build up before hand often looks good. Lack of composure or whatever it is, definitely is a flaw in our game that needs to improve.
We have five league games of this calendar year - Leyton Orient, Wycombe, Lincoln, Wigan and Oxford. Three away from home. Ideally we get ourselves into position that the Oxford game could see us go above them, that’s got to be the aim, get within striking distance. Four league wins on the bounce should breed confidence going into December.

I don't know that we were lucky to win the points in the sense of them being better than us or anything, just that we spent large chunks of the game getting nowhere and you wondered where a goal was going to come from (for either side). I'd say that we shaded a game of limited chances and the slightly better of two mediocre sides won it. Looked like we had thrown a couple of points away when we gave a soft free kick away at the end and then defended it badly to give them an equaliser, but to be fair, at least we kept going and one or two players gambled to try and get the win. Fornah's surge and pull back being exactly what was needed.

Was just thinking do we need a new one, or do we need to repurpose one by playing Fornah in that role?
Smith is an honest pro with limitations, like a couple of other players in the squad, can and will do a job for us as a squad player throughout the rest of the season but I would rather see Fornah starting ahead of him due to his physicality, athleticism and energy.

Just me who enjoyed yesterday then? I actually also thought we played very well in spells. Some last ditch defending in the first half but other than that we were totally in control

Not sure it's entirely the get it out wide tactic, more about the slow, old and seemingly 80% effort of Hourahaine and Smith. It's such a shame Liam Thompson has a long injury as you'd have thought he'd walk into this midfield. And how Fornah doesn't start is beyond me - Warne's lack of trust in the young and inexperienced over underperforming seasoned pros is sometimes baffling.

I think Hourihane should be fined every time he’s found to be further back than our centre backs. Ridiculous how often he’s just collecting the ball behind everyone to pass it on 5 yards.

It means there is 1 fewer option in midfield for the defence to pass it forwards to.

We weren't great, but we were good enough to beat Rovers and deserved the win.
Still worried about our attacking play as it is so one dimensional, and our inability to progress the ball from deep is a real concern. We were only able to create chances once the game became stretched, against a low block we still look clueless.
Defence had a good game, thought midfield was fairly nonexistent aside from Bird, looked better once Fornah came on, and in attack we are entirely reliant on NML.
A good 3pts but not necessarily a great performance.

It made no sense yesterday. Nelson had Martin in his pocket and Rovers were toothless.
Bradley immediately assumed Martin duties and no one jumped against CM for the goal.
When your central pairing is performing well why complicate things?
I can only imagine Ward isn’t fully fit because he’s better than several of our starters.
Similarly, Wilson is a far better player than Barkhuisen and his introduction made a difference (again).
A tough watch but I’m really pleased we ground out the win.

Warne is the Southgate of League One football. If we win, it is in spite of him. To start Smith ahead of Fornah is just criminal.

Its still s*** football...all this manager is bothered about is defence and athletes...so boring, so poor.
The wins are mainly because the opposition are so bad..the standard is abysmal, and we really need to get out of it this season!

Think that first half was one of the worst 45 minutes of football I’ve ever seen, contributed to by both sides. Luckily their players put about as much effort in as ours did.
Better second half, and just about deserved the win. Unconvincing, but top 6 is progress at least. Putting Sonny Bradley on to go 3 at the back almost killed us AGAIN though. When will he learn…

First half was awful and I actually thought we deserved to be losing. Second half while we didn’t play great was a massive improvement, we should’ve put the game to bed before they equalised but great character to win it - brilliant cameo from Fornah.

Put ourselves in a decent position with some very winnable games coming up, starting Tuesday against vale, we need an away performance!!

Just got back, still can’t believe he picks the midfield trio of smith Hourihane and bird, never seen it work yet and definitely didn’t work today!! Game changed for me when smith got injured and fornah and Wilson came on, not a great performance especially first half but we got 3 points.

I could accept the inconsistency if it were evident that we’re building something but I’m just not sure what we’re building. We’re told this is a long term project and that Clowes is giving time for Warne to build the club back up but all I’ve seen in his tenure is buying ex-players and those past their best.

If we were playing our youth, signing up and comers and attempting to play some good football then I think most Derby fans would accept the current position and levels of consistency but as it stands, what have we built in the last season and a half? Our best youth products in years are all set to leave at the end of the season leaving us with a few players that are the wrong side of 30.

If we don’t go up this year I do fear we’re in this league for the long haul, waiting for PW’s contract to be up so we can get in someone who knows how to build a team for the long term. The messaging from the club says this is a long term project but the signings we’ve made suggest otherwise.

The FA Cup lost it's sparkle years ago...imo, So being knocked out means didley squat to me, What is a concern is the whole sh!t show from top to bottom at Moor Farm, Manager/Coaches/Players, This club lurch from the sublime to the ridiculous, Performances are sporadic, Players are either poor or good, PW says he's disappointed, He says the players hurried and put cross after cross in the box, Where's the leader on the pitch, The one the players voted in, He's the mouthpiece for PW.
Time and again that corner we think we had turned after a couple of good results is littered with booby traps that we fail to avoid, All self inflicted by players and management that are struggling to adapt to either a system or tactics or haven't the character to cope in a game of football

For me, Warne needs a convincing winning run to get the season back on track. I don’t know how many of these results he can survive. Shrewsbury, Stevenage, Crewe - worryingly they are not a one off now.
I just don’t see how Clowes will not be asking himself questions now. Tonight was the perfect opportunity to vindicate the owner’s stance and Warne and the players completely fluffed it.
The worry for me is these players are really not anything special. I don’t see much untapped potential. I am not convinced a new manager will transform these players into a consistent winning machine.
