That is a great point and something the more tedious Warne critics often seem to forget: there is another team playing too!
I suppose if you go into the season thinking "we are the famous Derby County, we'll just brush these insignificant little minnows away" then you are probably going to disappointed when you don't win every game 6-0 looking like Brazil in the 70s.
At the same time though, teams have often come to Pride Park and looked to keep it very tight. They did the same once we became good under Steve Mac 1, which is why we never looked quite as amazing under him as when he first joined. As teams set up to frustrate us, our passing style suffered and we really could have done with options to get it wide and crossed into the box in the air.
We became a better team this season away from home, where our style was more suited to teams coming onto us more. We've rarely ever/never been so good away from home, but less people see these games live. We've struggled a bit more away recently, as even the home teams have set up to frustrate us too. The Stevenage nadir was probably because it was Stevenage, maybe the worst team for us to play away to for the way we setup.
Even on Saturday, we raced into a 2 goal lead, never looked in any trouble at all, yet people are genuinely concerned we didn't score from open play! Should we have thrown men recklessly forward, risking a counter attack, but hoping one of those extra players could have converted at least on of the many crosses flashed across the goal? I guess Saturday doesn't really count though, as it was "only" Leighton Orient, "the sort of team we should be beating". Even though they have taken points off our promotion rivals when we've beaten them twice.
As other posters have said, it's a shame that some posters seem to have taken so little joy from what could be our first promotion in nearly 20 years. I don't know where this purity in football took hold. After what we've been thru, you'd think people would be even more thankful for potential success.
I don't remember any of it when we went up with Billy. It's like West Ham fans who want Moyes gone...these are glory years for West Ham. They won a European Trophy last year and have barely got close to winning anything in decades.
Anyway, big thanks to Warne and his team for getting us this close.

The football this season has rarely been pretty, I don’t think anyone can deny that and the thought of more of the same isn’t very appetising. However, how much of that is down to the manager’s preferred style and how much is down to a need to adapt and do whatever it takes to get out of this league? Probably a combination of both. On the latter point, a lot of games this seem to blur into each other (which maybe says it all) but I reckon a lot of our entertaining football has come against the better teams in the league (I can’t substantiate that theory before anyone asks, it’s just a gut feeling). So, on that basis, I think we’ll either get rolled over pretty much every week (or, if we’re lucky manage to cling on for a point or three every now and then) or, we’re able to make some decent recruitment in the summer and will be able to go toe to toe with the more talented teams you get in the Championship - matching them to an extent in terms quality of football.

Obviously the former is what we all fear whilst the latter is what we all want. I for one (not that it’s up to me of course), am prepared to give PW the benefit of the doubt and accept that, to a degree, the quality of football we have seen this season has been down to the league we’ve been playing in. I totally get that some members on this forum really don’t rate him, don’t like his football, don’t think anything will change if we go up, and want him gone but, I’m hoping such individuals (not aimed at you by the way) give their Warne out campaign a bit of a rest next season for at least a dozen games.

Middlesbrough's Mr Fit & Proper features regularly in Private Eye in articles covering the dispute between the South Tees Development Corporation, of which Gibson was deputy Chair, and a local company PD Ports Ltd in which The former were trying to bully the latter into accepting their demands over land access rights. This month's article gives a glimpse of Gibson's finely honed negotiation skills:

Suffice to say a judge subsequently ruled in favour of PDP and ordered STDC to pay 90% of their costs of £1.2m.
    Nice one, Mr Fuzzy-Wig!

Really interesting. Stevenage was the major low point of the season, the point where most of us thought we need a change of direction as otherwise we’re going to be stuck here for years. The response from the staff and the players has been immense and we’re now on the cusp of promotion. That to me says we have bottle, resilience and clearly a group of players who are playing for their manager, and/or have the self motivation to not accept our performances at that time being good enough and actually do something to change it.
Next season is next season. There will be a turnover of players we will have a bigger budget and I think next season will be the time we can truly say this is Warne’s team. He’s proven he’s the right man for now whether he’s the right man for the future jury is out.

Peterborough are one of the strangest teams possible. When they're good, they're arguably the best in the league. They must just have the worst mentality ever because getting hammered isn't even that rare of an occasion. They have a good 5/6 players I think would improve us, and would happily see in our side next season even if the Championship. But collectively, they're just odd.

Word of caution about jumping in & doing too much straight away...
During first Covid lockdown I thought it's be a good idea to do start doing those daily Joe Wicks youtube workouts with miss Wolfie.
Day 1..... Joined late, so missed any warm up (if there was one). First 10 minutes of squats after not doing leg excercise for a good while. Had to stop. Legs on fire for the next 2 days & struggles with stairs. Never did it again.
Start slow & easy people & gradually build up!

Loving the calm way Cash goes about his work. Controlled aggression when needed, but otherwise cool as you like. Always seems to win the ball when he does go to ground and calmly ushers his man wide when it's not there to win. I really think Sibbo has improved for their partnership on that left flank. Sibbo has always had bags of ability in attack, but in defense, he seems to take Cash's lead and he's improving that side of his game quite markedly. Saw Cash telling a much older and more experienced Ebou to calm down too which made me smile. Deeply impressive maturity from such a young lad, who IMO should be nailed on for the captaincy next season.
Sidenote - how strong is Thommo! He's tiny, but he seems to lever much bigger players off the ball so easily.

We can all talk the talk...but walking the walk is a difficult tightrope when you're Birmingham City 👎
I get a perverted sense of joy when seeing the 2nd city club in the relegation zone, Hindsight is a wonderful thing...who was the expert that decided Eustace wasn't the man to carry on his good work?, Who was the man who decided Rooney was the man to lead the charge to the promised land?
WR(i still like the fella)was a figurehead a known "soccer" personality that will give the blue noses the impetus to move forward, Nope, After his walk out from DCFC and his utter failure in the USA soccer grounds shows what they did not know.
The snake is now in charge, He's got the job until seasons end which makes my joy even more euphoric if the blue noses get relegated, I'm a vengeful bas***d where those who wish our club to die, I'm a vengeful bas***d when those who were our manager jump ship for 5 pieces of silver.

Alexander (2004) - I don't recall why I didn't watch this at time of release as typically, I like Oliver Stone's movies, but OMFG this film should have been aborted, or at best strangled at birth. A bleached out Colin Farrell sounding for all money like he's just dropped in from Dublin, had me twitching only minutes into the film and inside a quarter of an hour I was done.

In fairness and unlike some, you've been entirely consistent in your observations over the course of the season, but taking Wycombe as an example, what was wrong with the team selection? Was it not another occasion where he actually got it right, which I concede, he hasn't always, but was let down by a forward line who lacked composure?
