  1. For all the dead tree press making comments about the damage to the roads being caused by heavy EVs, apparently this was not quite the correct evaluation of a report into road damage.

Yes, they acknowledged that average vehicle weight is increasing, but of course we have heavy vehicles delivering goods every day. However, the report made a correlation between increased adverse weather and increased road damage.

It's likely that the biggest causes of the extra damage are environmental, so global warming will be more responsible than the batteries - and they will be helping with the global warming problems, rather than adding to them. The papers don't want to tell you that though!

I don't really watch TV, so my gripes are all radio issues.

Adverts where the company name is repeated about 20 times in the space of 30 seconds.

Any advert where they think shouting will somehow induce me to buy their product.

Tool hire/van insurance etc ads that insist on using the exact same white van man caricature. Also, any of these type of adverts that are voiced by Ralph Ineson (which is about 90% of them).

"I bought it from Clinton's cards"

    "Clinton's cards?"

    "Yes, Clinton's cards"

Interesting - but does anyone actually use Twitter because they think "oh I hope that I get some ads targeted at me that will make me want to buy something"? Most users will block the accounts of advertisers anyway. It's not what they want from the app

The fact that they now have some sort of smoke and mirrors AI which allows "algorithms to reach people beyond your targeted audience" sounds good for the advertisers, but bad for the users and will turn them away. Which in the long run is bad for the advertisers. All feels like a death spiral to me

AI is definitely the way forward.

    Is it Grok?

    Er...

Now then B4, I know we've begged a few favours already, so I've waited until we really need it to beg another, but if you could give the boss a nudge for us and tell him I'm sorry I've not been to church for 20 years, I'd be obliged. A win today would most certainly restore some faith and I'll book myself in for confession at very least, though I might well need a 2 hour slot!

oh jesus,,Whos taken the jam out of your doughnut… lol

Yes anyone over the age of 17 … does that invalidate my point? No .. not in the slightest.. we should all be able to remember it then and start to think actually the pound is losing its value when measured against the dollar

jesus… Ok 🤦 for the pedantic amongst us… reletively speaking we are back at ath levels…. having broken previous high of 69k by reaching 73k we are now channeling between 64/5 and 72k which many expect us to do up u til the event and up to 6 months after the halving … happy?

At no point have i ever said the halving provides an immediate price spike… its common knoweldge to anyone who has taken any time in this space that the subsequent bull run historically follows some 6 months after the halving event

but being the clever dick u are im sure u know why that is and why possibly things might be slightly different this time round😜😉

I'm trying to get my head around this at a macro level and I'm struggling tbh. It's a complicated subject and I'm not an economist.

I can see that inflation happens as a result of the capitalism ponzi scheme. Governments issue debt to banks at an interest rate, which creates money. More money creates inflation. Governments use this method of kicking the can down the road to let future generations pay for today's spending.

So if you stop the money creation, you stop the inflation - but you stop governments from spending money outside of what bitcoin mining allows for the creation of. Currently governments metaphorically click their fingers and money is created.

The population is growing, but if money creation is slower than the population increase, effectively your money value goes down. Unheard of with bitcoin, because it's value only goes up - because you swap it out for Fiat currency that is in plentiful supply.

I'd say if you want to make money out of bitcoin, the last thing you want is to swap it out for Fiat as the basis of your country's economy.

I once called my mum to tell I was on the train home from Manchester on a Saturday and would be back in a couple of hours. Stopped for a drink with a friend in Sheffield and eventually got home on the Monday

I called the ex once and told her I was on the train, and some random bloke at the bar shouted a loud "choo choo". That took me some time to get back from.

How other social media companies compare with the new twitter is clearly relevant to many people on the thread. In this case, everyone else except Twitter is being sued for damaging children's mental health. Bizarre to suggest deleting it.

But this was Davids thread to discuss the name change. It's turned into a bit of a discussion around the new owner, as it seems to be his idea to change the name despite it being a global brand. It's also turned into a discussion about other changes he's spearheaded.

I don't think David wanted a thread to argue about the politics of social media, but there's bound to be a bit of that in a conversation about Musk and Twitter / X. So, as long as we can keep the thread title in mind, I'll let you carry on with it.

Twitter/X is a social media platform that is being criticised in this thread so it’s only natural there has to be a comparison to other social media platforms to judge if these criticisms are justified or just a criticism of Elon Musk.

I was actually thinking of starting a new thread Elon Musk good or bad for humanity so any criticism against Elon Musk either in Twitter,SpaceX or EV threads could be moved by the mods so we can concentrate on the subject at hand.

I can start a thread if you think that would be beneficial?

I think that's what this thread and the spacex threads are about. But the posts about Facebook/Meta don't go any way to answer that question, do they? They mostly seem to be saying "social media good or bad for humanity", but there's really not going to be much argument that they are collectively bad. The only difference is that the supporters of Musk are claiming X is good for humanity, where everyone else is saying all social media is bad for humanity.

You keep going on about stuff like this and I'm genuinely trying to give you chance to post, but I don't see any relevance regarding X/twitter. I part think I should remove it, and also don't want to dictate the content of the thread. But I don't get the relevance. Yes, the market for social media is full of firms that put profits ahead of their user base. What's that to do with Twitter?

..... I don't even know where I'd start with that. They can't even decide on a version of history that supports their views. Is it in one of these versions of history that Poland started WW2 or is that yet another timeline?

    No, that's this timeline.

No one is arguing that all the social media  companies aren't terrible in their own way.

But only one of them has been taken over by an entitled billionaire man baby with the express intent of "making it better". Which is the exact topic of this thread.

If all someone has to offer to the debate is "Facebook is a bad too" then you wonder why they bother. I better they are a delight at dinner parties

In fact, he's spent $44 billion to be just as bad as Facebook. A platform I regularly contemplate removing.

What does that have to do with Twitter?

I think he's arguing that it's no worse than the competition, but those people who are ex supporters of twitter but are not happy with the current offering are arguing it's worse in comparison to what it used to be.  Which apparently there doesn't seem to be an any argument.

The Premier league and the independant body need to realise that they're setting a massive precedent here.

In the future, other clubs will expect punishment to be aligned to that issued to Forest, clubs may decide that signing that extra top international for £35m will earn them more than 4 points over the season, especially when you add on subsequent seasons value of that player.

Also, Leicester have grounds to argue that had Forest been deducted those 4 points last season, they wouldn't have been relegated. Could they sue Forest and/or the Premier league for their losses?

I think they know they're setting a precedent. It's by design.

Leniency here paves the way for a very mild punishment for Man City.

I'm expecting an appeal, and a reduction, so that Man City get even less of a punishment.
