  1. It is of course totally the fault of Ed Dawes that we have lost the last two games. But, I also wore a new jumper. So, as much as I hate to say, it may well be my fault rather than Ed’s… sorry everyone 😝

    It wasn't a shot. 😀

Seriously though, we did have what could technically be considered as shots/attempts on target but I reckon I could have safely caught most of them.

So “headers on target” aren’t counted as “shots on target”?? Interesting. Do HoT contribute to xG??

  3. I strive to be positive but wow, that second half was absolutely terrible. There has been some dross served up this season, but that was just appalling. Against a team who needed a replay to beat Cray Valley earlier this season. I don’t know how we can improve by Saturday, but we must. We are still second, we still have a great opportunity. We’ve just got to get a grip when we are ahead and stop throwing points away. We surely can do it. Am I hopeful?? Always. Are my expectations high?? Alas, not tonight. But if we win on Saturday I will be positive again. Let’s all keep going.

  4. Question: do BBC Radio Derby have an archive?? In particular, Derby County commentaries, and specifically back to the Graham Richards era (early 80’s onwards, was it??)?? The reason I ask is that there are of course a few YouTube videos preserving the magnificent GR commentaries, but I know that there was so much more. Preserving more of his commentaries would be something I could get passionate about tbh. If anyone has any clue how to do this, I’d be very interested to know more. It would be a tragedy if the voice of one of the best football commentators ever were to be mostly lost. Let’s not wait until he dies to begin this project.

I know of 1 first team player who was, allegedly, far from complementary about Warne when out drinking with someone I know recently.

Assuming that's true, it shows that some of the players must think similar things too.

That fact that this individual was out drinking probably indicates why they are not in Paul Warne’s good books.

  6. The second half tonight was appalling and pretty much indefensible.

However, to everyone saying “Warne Out”, I ask you: who do you want on the touchline against Port Vale on Saturday instead?? And I don’t just mean “anyone”, or “Bob from down the street”. Who is your actual suggestion for a proper replacement who will improve our performances for the remainder of the season??

    Pathetic

Not liking the football we play and wanting us to lose are 2 massively different things.

Once again, any criticism is faced with strawman arguments

No. I don’t love how we play this season. But, it is effective. We are the second best team so far. So far. I hope we will still be second best at the end of the season. If not, let’s assess how we can be better going forward. But how does your negativity assist the team at this stage?? We ain’t sacking Warne, so forget it. Try being supportive instead. Bolton and Barnsley are laughing at the prospect of us sacking Warne. Stop playing into their hands.

if you have 12.000 empty seats in a stadium you could give everyone a megaphone and the atmosphere would be tepid at best.  If it upsets him that much I'd suggest he perhaps cares more than someone who'll sit there and inanely cheer any old s**** because he wants the team to do well. God knows how these wilting flowers would have coped at the old place where you could smell some ones fart when you took a throw in. It matters enough it upsets him. Calling out someone who vents a bit of disappointment because it matters with" you won't be missed" is the sort of vacuous I'm a bigger fan than you twaddle I detest.

Ask the chairman if he'd be happy to lose 2 million quid on his gate receipts in lieu of some fan frustration.

We are second in the league with a great chance of automatic promotion. Fans who are going to spend the remaining matches slating our players and calling for the manager to be fired are not welcome at Pride Park for the rest of the season as far as I’m concerned. I’d rather have a crowd of 15,000 that is wholly supportive than a crowd of 27,000 where 12,000 (your figure) are actively hoping for us to lose so that they have another chance to boo the team and manager off at the end of the game.

If 5000 think the same by the summer that 2 million quid will be missed.  You can look forward to another season of sticking plaster strikers restrictions or not.

If we lose the fans who are “the most negative [they’ve] been” then I think we will have an even better chance of promotion next season.

    a) I don’t fancy spending £200+ on an 18 hour day in order to collect a huge bagful of yet more disappointment.

    b) If the fans who are in work did their day jobs like he and the players are doing theirs, the fans would be out of work in no time.

    c) This is the most negative I’ve been.

    a) Attending football matches is not compulsory. If you don’t enjoy it, perhaps try doing something else on a Saturday afternoon. I promise you, you won’t be missed.

    b) This is utter nonsense. We are second in the League. Any fan who works as part of a team that is second best out of 24 is not losing their job. They are probably getting a large bonus. The job of the players is to get us promotion. They may or may not achieve it, but they are on track so far.

    c) May I ask what you were expecting for this season?? Win most games 5-0 and cruise to promotion?? We have only been promoted automatically once in the last 37 years, and now we have a great chance to make it twice. Two more away wins would make this our best away season ever. 20 more points from the last 12 games would make this our best season in modern times (in terms of total points and points per game since 3 points for a win; I’m not equating it to winning the entire League). We may not achieve that but goodness me, if this is the most negative you’ve ever been then I don’t know what to tell you. But it’s definitely a you problem, not the problem of the current players, manager and owner.

"And Wanchope treated the Manchester United defense with absolute contempt" is mine I think 😎

My three GR favourites are the entirety of the away play-off semi-final at Millwall, the two goals in 30 seconds against Leeds in our first PL game, and the Shane Nicholson Goal of the Century in the Cup quarter final against Sheffield Wednesday (all of which are available on YouTube btw).

  12. I’m constantly surprised by the number of people on here who seem to be expecting and indeed demanding that we cruise to promotion. It very rarely happens; even Leicester are no longer cruising to promotion this season. We’ve only managed automatic promotion once in 37 years, and we’ve recently been at probably the lowest ebb in our history. It would have been nice to win today, but guess what, the teams in first and third place didn’t win either. We still are in with a good chance.

Happy to be corrected here, but I have it as:

We win all our remaining games, we finish on 105pts

If Bolton win all their remaining games... except the one in which they lose to us... they end up with 105pts.
If they overturn our current +4 GD advantage, they end up above us.

Therefore, Bolton can outdo us, regardless of how we do... which equates to it being not in our own hands just yet.

    🤷‍♂️

If we win all our games that includes us beating Portsmouth, and if Bolton win all their games (except against us) that would also include them beating Portsmouth, so under the scenario you’ve described Bolton would finish top and we would finish second ahead of Portsmouth.

    Jesus, another Liam Rosenior thread.

Regardless of what happens this season, there is no doubt in my mind that Rosenior had the potential to take us much further than Warne ever will. It was a colossal mistake to get rid of him, which is why many people will not let it go.

If Warne takes us into European football then I will absolutely return to this thread and admit I was wrong.

At what point is the league a fair indicator? Do we have to wait until the last game has been played?

10 games in, Port Vale were 6th bit now they're 4th bottom. After 20 games, Reading were bottom 4, but would now be 14th without a points deduction. Leyton Orient have shot up from 16th to 9th in the same period of time.

Yes. The only way to know whether a team has had a successful season is to look at the table at the end of the season. For a team like, say, Cheltenham, if they stay up by even a goal scored, it will have been a successful season. If they go down by a goal scored it will have been a failure. For Derby, if we finish second it will have been a successful season. If we miss out, however narrowly, and then lose in the play-offs, most will consider the season a failure. The only thing that matters is the outcome at the very end of the season. Possession, shots on target or expected goals are irrelevant compared to final league position.

Occasionally, teams make a single signing that transforms the team.

Virgil van Dyke at Liverpool, Kante at Leicester are good examples off the top of my head.

I think Warne has found a player in Adams who can have a similar positive effect.

Fitted almost seamlessly into that midfield, and just made everyone around him that little bit more effective.

Keep him fit, and he'll make a massive difference come the end of the season.

Good pick up in the Jan window, and brave to slot him straight in, good call Paul.

    Igor??
