As you seem to like statistics...here's one for you...away league games under LR...played 4...drawn 2 lost 2, Scored 0 conceded 3

    Charlton 1 Derby 0

    Shrewsbury 0 Derby 0

    Fleetwood 0 Derby 0

    Lincoln 2 Derby 0

I cannot argue that the away form isn't better under Warne, and nor have I even tried to... we have clearly improved away from home (though draws against the bottom two clubs (Morecambe and Burton) is hardly us setting the World alight).

However, to counter that, the home form is also worse (Rosenior P5 W4 D0 L1; Warne P5 W2 D2 L1)... Rosenior gained 50% more points from his 5 home games than Warne has in his 5 games so far (12 vs 8), and arguably against harder opposition (Plymouth, Barnsley, Peterborough, and Wycombe for LR, compared to Forest Green, Bristol R, Exeter, and Port Vale for PW, with Oxford and Sheff Wed being obvious exceptions there).

But, this is off-topic for this thread, so I shall desist now ?

I suppose we could ignore the fact that all of those games under LR were at home whereas 2 out of 3 of those under PW were away from home. Or that under LR we conceded 5 goals in those three games whereas under PW we only conceded 1. But hey, don't be shy about manipulating statistics to make a point.?

I was responding directly to a previous comment that said:

"We do struggle to score against teams in the top 6".

I was merely pointing out that that hasn't always been the case this season ?

I'm not sure where all the pressure and expectation is coming from tbh.

6 months… that's all it was... 6 months ago we'd have all given our right nuts to still have a club.

We then entered what was left of the transfer market armed with no transfer fees, no money to line the pockets of agents and a restriction on what we could pay and over the given length of time we could pay that player for.

We did well to get a squad and tbh these are players that other clubs who had more time to get over the line and more money to tie up passed up on.

Let's enjoy what we have, if we make the play-offs great, if we don't we don't.

To put into context, who can tell me the last time we had a manager that lasted more than two full seasons??

I'm looking forward to judging Warne after 2-3 seasons, not 5 minutes and one restricted transfer window.

A lot of the pressure on Warne imo is coming from people who think that Rosenior was a good manager and should have been persevered with for much longer. After all, this squad (which most on this thread seem to agree is one of the best in this league) was built, as you say, with no transfer fees, no money for agents, etc etc, by Rosenior. Many feel he should therefore have been given more than 9 league games to work with his squad. And if you believe that, then naturally you're going to expect the replacement manager to be a considerable improvement, otherwise why replace Rosenior??

You say: "Let's enjoy what we have, if we make the play-offs great, if we don't we don't". Yes, you're spot on. So why didn't this philosophy apply when Rosenior was in charge too??

You say: "To put into context, who can tell me the last time we had a manager that lasted more than 2 full seasons?? I'm looking forward to judging Warne after 2-3 seasons, not 5 minutes and one restricted transfer window.". Yes, again you're spot on. So why the rush to replace Rosenior?? Why not judge him after 2 full seasons??

On a points per game (ppg) basis, Rosenior had 1.56 ppg after 9 league games with a squad recruited very hastily and under huge restrictions (this would give us 71.76 points over the season), while Warne currently has 1.62 ppg after his first 13 league games (which would be 74.52 points over a full season). So by replacing Rosenior with Warne, we will statistically gain an extra 2.76 points over the course of a season (let's call it one extra win).

Might that one extra win be the difference between promotion/play-offs and not?? Sure, it could be. But does that justify having replaced Rosenior so soon?? People will have their own opinions, but a lot of the pressure and expectation on Warne comes imo from people who think that, since we replaced Rosenior so quickly, his replacement should be providing a bigger improvement than is currently the case with Warne.

After all, we've won 3 of the last 10 league games. Will all the Warne super-fans on here be happy with 3 wins in the next 10 league games too??

Just because some didn't want Rosenior as manager it doesn't follow that they'd be happy with a 'lucky draw at Burton' and how we played.

But Warne has actually said in his interview today that "generally speaking, they played how I want them to play". This is how he wants us to play.

This is how he wants us play.

He wants us to play like this for the next four years.

So anyone who was happy with Warne replacing Rosenior must surely be happy now that we're, generally speaking, playing exactly how Warne wants us to play, rather than how Rosenior wanted us to play. I however was not happy with the management change, and I am not happy that, generally speaking, we are going to be struggling to draw at places like Burton for the next four years.

Just listened to Warnes interview on rams tv. "generally speaking they played how I want them to play". In fairness he also said he was disappointed but I'm afraid if this is his style of play his appointment for me is turning out very disappointing.

I hope everyone reads and understands the above.

PW: "Generally speaking, they played how I want them to play".

This is how Warne wants us to play. He said so. This is it.

    4 year contract.

    League 1.

Lucky to draw at Burton. Burton f***ing Albion.

This is it. This is how Warne want us to play. He said so just today.

Hope all the Rosenior haters are happy.

It's odd that a team which has been coached to keep possession at all costs, nowadays seems incapable of doing so and controlling the game when circumstances dictate this is what we should be doing.

It's because the new manager has thrown away the previous approach that was working and is now telling the players that hoofball is the preferred option.

I think that all this comparing what Warne is doing with Rosenior's 9 games is ridiculous. 9 games are far too few to be really meaningful.

You are so close to understanding why many of us continue to think that LR was treated very unfairly. 9 games are far too few to be really meaningful. Yes, correct!! Therefore, we should have given Rosenior an appropriate amount of time to prove (or disprove) himself (the exact length of time is debatable, though I'd have given him 18 months at least). But, apparently, 9 games were plenty enough to decide he wasn't up to the job. I continue to think that that was misguided and wrong, though based on the facts I cited it's of course debatable. However, we were 7th when Warne arrived, and now we're 8th. Woo f****** hoo, what a great improvement.

I really can't believe anyone can honestly be calling for Warne to go after 9 league games. Pathetic. It is all the chopping and changing over the last few years that has in part got us where we are.

As stated, I am not calling for Warne to be sacked. I don't think his record over his first 9 games deserves that. Letting Rosenior go after 9 games was a pretty major "chop and change" though, which is why I continue to think it was a mistake to replace him. I don't pretend to know your views, but if you dislike "chop and change", why would you support replacing Rosenior with Warne??

"Speaking in his post-match press conference, Warne said he felt one of Portsmouth's tactics was to try to get Louie Sibley booked as quickly as possible...

"That got me through the first half in fairness. History with them (the Cowley brothers)? I just had an issue with him (Danny) once about him approaching one of my players (at Rotherham) which I wasn't best pleased with.

"I am a bit stubborn like that. I can't let things go. You've got to fight your corner, haven't you? Their management team and players fight their corner and we have to for us. We just protect our lads if there's a tackle we're not happy with and let everyone know.

I honestly felt like one of their tactics was to get Sibs booked as soon as possible. He did his first tackle which wasn't that horrific and it was a yellow card straight away. That didn't please me. But you have to play the cards you're are dealt. That was a bit frustrating."

How can you blame them when Warne is on record saying that Sibley is the worst tackler he's ever seen?? Maybe he should have kept his mouth shut rather than revealing our potential weaknesses to the opposition??

Hard to judge home form after 3 games, especially when the the one we lost had a couple of aberrations from senior players......

I don't necessarily disagree, but Rosenior won 4 home League games out of 5 (plus two cup wins), and the one we lost was against the best team in the League so far (Plymouth), and was also only due to a 90th minute "aberration" (though admittedly not by a senior player). Even IF we beat Sheffield Wednesday and Forest Green Rovers (by no means guaranteed), Warne will still have a worse home record than Rosenior after 5 home League games (despite having on average easier opposition). So I do think my comment saying "Home form: worse" is currently backed up by pretty solid evidence.

  11. After 9 league games:

    LR: P9, W4, D2, L3, F9, A9, Pts 14.

    PW: P9, W4, D3, L2, F14, A7, Pts 15.

Position when LR left: 7th, level on points with the play-offs.

Position now: 8th, one point off the play-offs.

Has Warne been an improvement so far?? My assessment is: Home form: worse. Away form: better. Goals scored: better. Points: marginal improvement. League position: No improvement.

Should Warne be sacked on the basis of his first 9 League games?? I personally don't think so. Should Rosenior have been sacked/let go on the basis of his first 9 League games?? I also think no.

We don’t have the luxury of a squad, we basically have a first XI and 2 or three subs. Normally I’d agree but sod all the cups off and go all in on promotion. What would we do if Bird have a season ending injury against Newport? When we actually have a squad go for it but not this season.

There's always an excuse not to take the cups seriously though:

'It's so important just to get out of League 1 this season"

"It's so important just to stay in the Championship this season"

"We aren't that far of the play-offs this season"

"We have a real chance of going up automatically this season"

"It's so important just to stay in the PL this season"

Etc, etc... which is way I prefer to take them seriously every game, every season... otherwise we never will.

The three greatest things the club has ever done are win the League twice and the FA Cup once... however great the Jim Smith era was (for example), we still were only mid-table in the PL. Anyway, off topic really, so my apologies. Good and well deserved point tonight!!

  13. I didn't see anyone post the comparison between LR and PW after 12 games each (which happened after the MK Dons match), but apologies if I missed it (for PW I'm being generous and including penalty shoot-out defeats as draws):

    LR: P12, W7, D2, L3, F15, A11.

    PW: P12, W4, D5, L3, F18, A13.

A comparison of 9 league games will be possible after the Portsmouth game tonight. But has PW been an improvement on LR over his first 12 games?? Not for me so far.
