The point of the vaccine is as you have said yourself, it give you a level of protection that gives you a better chance of not dying or becoming seriously ill if you catch covid. Unfortunately some people even after being vaccinated can still become seriously ill if they get the virus.
As for masks. Hopefully with the work being carried out by the world's scientists, we will beat this virus, so we won't be having to wear a mask for ever.  But until that day arrives, then wearing of masks still needs to be followed in areas like shops, were the ventilation is poor and the footfall high.
I don't want or like the mandatory wearing of masks. I'd like to think that people will use common sense in deciding when they should wear a mask. But unfortunately we have a large number of people lacking any sense and more sadly any empathy for their fellow citizens.

Fully agree the more tools, from vaccines to masks, we have available to defeat this virus the better.
I don't understand your reluctance to wear a mask. A mask isn't just primarily a protection for the wearer, it also protects those around them. Just like when a person sneezes, they hold a tissue or handkerchief to their mouth and nose, not for their own benefit but to stop spreading germs to those nearby.   So while you may be happy, after being vaccinated, that you could survive catching covid. There may be other around you, who are also vaccinated but may not survive as well as you, if they contract the virus.

With each performance by Morrison that I have had to endure this season. The more I'm convinced that what Alex Ferguson said about him, was pure BS and was just a sales pitch to generate as much money as possible when Man U. wanted Morrison off their books.

How many clubs have thought the same, over how many years. Sadly we’ve neither the time or money to afford the wait for players in this mould.

Sad that the Baa Baas game against Samoa as had to be cancelled. Shame a few players picked to represent the Baa Baas couldn't be arsed to stay isolated for a few days before the game.

As England return to mandatory wearing of masks when entering a shop. It's the shop workers who will again have to deal with the selfish people who refuse to wear a mask, I'll have sympathy for. Especially when they get abused for asking some of these bamfords to put on a mask.

I have been wearing masks in shops and on public transport. I can't control or influence other people's behaviour, that is for the government. Therefore, I will blame them when they make poo decisions like this one.

While we're on the subject of motorways. Where the motorways have been extended to four lanes, lorries shouldn't be allowed to use three out of the four lanes They should be restricted to the two inside lanes. I've lost count of how many time I've come up behind lorries travelling at 60 MPH sat three abreast across the motorway, leaving just the outside lane for all the other vehicles to pass them

Checked while I was out. Definitely four (4) lanes on the M1 going north from junction 25. Definitely saw lorries using three (3) of the four (4) lanes. Thus leaving one (1) lane for the other vehicles to pass said lorries. And still think lorries should be restricted to the two (2) inside lanes on a four(4) lane motorway.

We got part way through the process of applying to do respite foster care  (via the council) before Covid and the thing that struck me was that the Council were competing with private companies to find foster carers. But that set up is stupid - because if the Council don't have enough Foster Carers, they have to "sub-contract" the care to the private companies. Which involves paying over-the-odds to the Private  comapnies - which in turn means that the private companies can pay more to the Foster carers. Which means it's more lucrative for foster carers to go with the private companies, which leaves the Council with a lack of foster carers! Then you get on to the little matter of the Private Companies being far less stringent on the acceptance criteria (because their eyes are on the dollar and not the kids wellbeing), so it's yet another system rigged to funnel public taxes into private companies ?
But to get back the question of "why the increase in kids in care?" I thought that @Norman wrote a really good post in the Children In Need thread last week about people in the prison system that reads across here. Without a fundamental change in the way society deals with breaking the cycle it won't ever be fixed

My wife worked on various programmes, ran by surestart, that were designed to help mothers and thus help their children live a better life.
It can't be a coincidence that since the defunding of the surestarts programme, more children are having to be taken into care.
The cost of putting a child into a council run carehome can be 3 to 4 thousand pounds per week. This cost can be multiplied by 4 when putting a child into a privately run home.
Me not being at all cynical about the reasons for defunding the surestart programme. But I do wonder who are the owners of these private carehomes, that are making vast profits from these unfortunate children.

1of4 reacted to JuanFloEvraTheCocu'sNesta in Come January where would you strengthen and who would you go for?
    Came here to say this.
Talk of strengthening the squad in January is wildly optimistic in my view. We need to make sure we even have something resembling a squad before that.
There will be players that wish to leave, there will be players that have to leave (due to being high earners, being worth decent transfer fees etc). There is nothing that can be done about that now and I don't blame anyone for wanting out at this point if they have a better option on the table.
Only when we know who is still going to be here this time next year can we start to piece together exactly what we need in terms of incomings.
My expectation is that the second half of this season is going to be an absolute slog, we will lose players in Jan and we will be seeing a lot more of the U23's plugging gaps. The summer is where the real work will be done as we should be off the leash so to speak with the EFL and their horrible business plan.

Having read your post, may I congratulate you on your plan to improve your health.
This as motivated me to reduce my alcohol intake and hopefully improve the life expectancy of my liver.
I am proposing to achieve this by drinking less malt whisky (40% by volume) and more wine (12.5% by volume). So for every bottle of whisky, I can instead have 3 bottles of wine, saving 2.5% alcohol.
While this will increase the volume of liquid drunk ,over the course of a year I will be making a saving of 97.5% alcohol consumed. Meaning I will be virtually alcohol free by the end of 2022. ? ???

It's further that I would like here. But I fully understand why they're feeling the pressure to act. They need to reduce the R number as its running riot at the moment. Vaccinating everyone has to be done hand in hand with reducing the R number to a manageable level.
It's a lockdown like we had a couple of times in this country. We have more tools now - mainly a vaccine that reduces transmission and reduces the severity for anyone who catches it. Without the vaccine I presume Austria would be back into full lockdown. Thankfully there is no need to affect the economy so much because there is a vaccine.
You've previously pointed the finger at home workers and furloughed workers, saying that they prefer to sit at home and let other people do all the work. I presume I can point the finger back and say the same about them? They could just go and get the vaccine, like millions of people have done, and help restrict the spread of a virus that's killing a lot of our senior citizens.

But if want to use figures from the start of the pandemic when the city of New York was the epicentre of the pandemic in the USA. When the Trump government denied the dangers of covid while giving little help to NY. Go for it, use those figures in trying to make a point about mask wearing.
Maybe you'd like to put up the figures on the number of transmission that occurred across the states after Florida allowed thousands of college students to have spring break in its state without the need to wear masks.
