It was still a wonky under hit header.
    Bogle had 4 options.
    1. Head to Waghorn to keep play going.
    2. Head clear for a throw - with the distance to the sideline, there's a high chance of their winger intercepting and getting an easy cross in.
    3. Head clear up the field. Bogle isn't renown for the distance on his headers, so it likely would have fell to their LB anyway.
    4. Control the ball and play out - it seemed like a difficult ball to control, and a bad touch would result in the winger going through on goal. Even with a good touch, the winger would be pressing him quickly.
I'm siding with an accurate header to Waghorn as being the best option.

You can see why Bogle tried to head the ball to Waghorn given how much space he was in when Bogle committed. Their LB just read the play better than Wags and got there first.

After the goal went in, Waghorn falpped his arms in frustration with Bogle's mistake, and Bogle pointed out what his intention was. It didn't last much more than a second.

Ramage has zero interest in our academy so he knows extremely little about the players until they play for the first team. Assuming his sweeping generalisation isn't about the players he's never seen, then his "all young black lads" comment was referring to those who have played for the first team: Bogle, Lowe, Whittaker, Mitchell-Lawson, Bennett, and possibly Holmes (25) and Wisdom (26) depending on whether he still sees the latter two as 'young'.
No-one has ever questioned the mentality of Lowe, Mitchell-Lawson, Holmes or Wisdom.
Question marks had been raised as to whether Whittaker was ready for the first team, with a minority questioning his attitude due to not closing down quick enough when brought on as a late sub - who knows what Cocu's instructions were when the rest of the time was tiring?
Comments have been raised about Bennett's 'professionalism', given 'joiners gate', his inability to stay injury free, etc. But, his effort has never been questioned. He'd run through a brick wall face first if the manager asked him too.
On Saturday, Cocu was disappointing with Bogle's "focus" after coming on. Last season his defensive weaknesses were compensated by having two good CBs - so his mistakes weren't penalised as often. This season, his mistakes are capitalised on more often due to having weaker CBs and more finger pointing as a result. Defensively, he's the same as he was last year, but he's improved offensively.
Only 3 of the players listed played on Saturday (Wisdom, Holmes and Bogle), so it seems strange to make the sweeping generalisation of all young black players post-match.

Different player's need to improve different parts of their game when stepping up.
Bird's issue last season seemed to be adjusting to the pace of the game - he was getting closed down a lot quicker than he was used to for the U23s. This season, he's creating time for himself (just as Huddlestone manages to do).
Whittaker seems to be similar, and is unsure where his teammates are at times. Playing in the first team and forging partnerships with the RB, CM and CF would make a big difference.

If you looked at Max Bird last season you would've thought he'll never make it. I was confused as to why Lampard kept picking him, especially after watching us against Villa away. This season though he's been one of the most consistent performers since Christmas, he's been incredible. Morgan Whittaker reminds me of Max Bird last season. But there must be a reason he keeps getting into the team, if you watch any of the youth games he's a level above.
Bogle and Bird are both the same age (19) but if Bird has a bad game the excuse is 'oh he's still finding his feet' but if Bogle has a bad game there's so much more of a negative reaction. Same with Bielik at the start of the season, him and Lowe are both still 22, but there's so much weight on their shoulders if they have a poor game. People forget how young this team is, they're not gonna be a 8/10 every game, if they were they wouldn't be in the championship. Just think of the players they will become in 5 or so years when they're in their prime...

Totally ignoring all names, genders, race which is why I've taken this out of the player threads
Any young player playing at this level is bound to have off days, and may appear to have an attitude problem. I think in many cases its  not a bad attitude its simply not quite knowing what to do and being flat footed. In our squad we range from vastly experienced players with all that knowledge of hundreds of games to draw on, down to youngsters with mere handfuls of games. Call it "Rabbit caught in the headlights" syndrome. This won't be helped by team and play style changes.
Rooney is part of the perception issue. He always seems to know what to do with the ball even before he gets it. His thought process is way ahead. Less experienced players just do not see things that quickly, do not have the "telepathy" to direct their movement. The contrast with Rooney is immense and they look worse than they are.
But here's the thing: Rooney is talking non stop to our players and yet I've not seen him get in any players face and berate them which I'm sure he would if he perceived lack of effort.
PS I seem to remember when a raw Tom Huddlestone broke in the team he was described as lazy. A languid style with long legs, no future for a player like that!

"So I'd probably say that about all the young black lads".  That's saying all young black lads who play for Derby County at various age levels are lazy.  How is that not a racist view point.

What makes it worse was him saying all the young black footballers. I could excuse him somewhat if he excluded "all", but that still wouldn't have been right. Saying what he did, it wasn't just Bogle and Lowe he was referring to.

For @Highgate(and anyone else who's interested) Trump's approval ratings are at a record high, both among Republicans but also independents https://news.gallup.com/poll/284156/trump-job-approval-personal-best.aspx. You say "Surely the US can't be expected to be the greatest country in every respect all the time?" but that's exactly what most Americans think it should be! That's the go-getting American mentality for you. 🙂
Obviously the guy's terrible in many ways, but the media has continually spun against him so it's no wonder he hates them. It's a vicious circle both sides have participated in. For instance, the Wall was a bipartisan project started by Bill Clinton and continued by Bush with Democrat support. The "Muslim Ban" was no such thing if you read the executive order. It built on executive orders from Obama's time and never once names a single country. From my personal perspective, Trump (perhaps for reasons of being a simpleton but I don't care) is great for space exploration and has given NASA the biggest kick up the backside it's ever had, demanding human exploration of the entire solar system by the end of the century and a return to the Moon by 2024, with a permanent presence by 2028. Good on him yet he's vilified for being anti-science. Unlike his predecessors he's not started any wars, has engaged with North Korea (when Obama's administration refused to) and had made other NATO nations up their contributions (after years of relying on American spending for their security). He's had no credit for this. There are "Women's Marches" against him but there were none against Bill Clinton who was far worse (or Kennedy for that matter).
The country is very, very polarized, but I think ordinary people see plenty of the above. Many Americans I speak to do. They also see him trying to stand up to China and stuff like that and think "it's about goddam time".
When Andrew Yang dropped out of the Democrat race after New Hampshire I saw a twitter Democrat poll of "who will you vote for now?" and the majority said Trump. Of course it's hard to verify these things. I think the real Democrat problem is hypocrisy. Their message for so long has been "do as I say and not as I do". Some people will think the Clintons and Obamas were in it for themselves in that they have become mega-rich on the back of the Presidency. In the same way Arthur Scargill started with a big union and a small house and ended with a small union... You know the rest. The American dream said that if you work hard you can progress, but it seemed under the Democrats only the "elites" progressed and working hard didn't get the rest anywhere.
Bernie comes across as more authentic but is he really? I hoped Harris or Brooker or Yang would do better but they've all fallen by the wayside and it looks as if it will be a contest between old white men. Whoever it's between it will be brutal and polarizing again.

Ramage deserves all the criticism he's getting. You claiming Souness' criticism of Pogba has anything to do with race is absolutely ridiculous. Not that this would matter anyway since Souness has never even hinted that his issues with Pogba have anything to do with skin colour, but perhaps you ought to educate yourself on Souness' career? Souness was the only Liverpool player who praised Howard Gayle for standing up to racism from Tommy Smith. Souness was the man who pushed changes in the previously insular Scottish league when he signed Mark Walters. It is laughable that you'd attempt to frame his criticism of an under performing player as racist.

Absolutely not. Its the reference to the colour of their skin that is the aggravating factor & its pretty disingenuous to suggest naming a player to then criticise would lead to the same reaction.
He may have had a legitimate comment to make about young players but he didn't reference Max Bird (despite having criticised him earlier)
Why do you think he was talking about young players as a whole when he stated 'all the young black lads'? He was being specific
