Ghost of Clough got a reaction from uttoxram75 in Derby v Peterborough
I consider that to be a harsh judgement of Sibley, as he and Thompson typically press better than any of our other mids, even if he has a tendency of giving away a high number of fouls as a result. Taking this game as an example, he made 3 tackles, interceptions and blocks (and 2 fouls), whilst Bird, Hourihane and Thompson made a combined 3 defensive actions (and 1 foul). In fact, when looking at overall defensive actions this season, Sibley is our 2nd best midfielder behind Fornah.
He's also better than everyone else for open play attacking contributions. He has more shots and key passes than any other player (Thompson and Bird are 2nd and 3rd), whilst he's only a fraction behind Thompson and Fornah for attempted dribbles. As yesterday showed, Sibley's set pieces are just as dangerous as Hourihane's.

The good news is we currently don't face top 6 opposition for 11 games (Barnsley) and only 2 other top half sides (Lincoln and Stevenage) so we have a very good opportunity to put another nice run together.

I like it and think it should be sung back to back with Jamie Thrasivoulou's We Are Derby. There's nothing to stop the club playing another song after them.
I also find it amusing that you think the majority of Derby fans wouldn't have even heard of Bloomer.

Ghost of Clough got a reaction from Carl Sagan in Max Bird - stay or go?
Pablo Hernandez was still one of the most technically gifted players in the league when Leeds were promoted. However, Bielsa knew his legs had gone so reduced his game time to the odd start and coming on for the final 20-30 minutes. It worked, because he was putting in killer balls against defenders who were mentally and physically tired. Their attackers were also tired when he came on, so he had to make fewer recovery runs. That's the sort of role Hourihane should now have, wit the likes of Bird, Fornah, Thompson and Sibley starting games.

Failing to even reach the playoffs, by however small a margin, would be a massive failure and I'm not sure how anyone could say with good faith (only blind faith) that they'd trust him to carry on and achieve promotion the following season.
He will get us in the play-offs at the very least though, so it's a moot point.

Well if we go three games without a win against Fleetwood, Bradford and Burton I imagine the criticism will be justified.
But in the meantime, do enjoy your smugness.

It was too much to ask the same 11 players to play 3 games in 6 days, especially against (what is possibly) the quickest team in the League.

And yet all of that was achieved within the first 3 months of the start of last season.
What amazes me is the constant need to keep doing ourselves down and keep beating ourselves up over the actions of one man, despite all the evidence on the pitch and with the hindsight of watching us play 70 games in this league pointing to promotion in that time frame being entirely plausibly or even expected, even if not demanded.

Tommy Leigh - 23 years old, Accrington, out of contract in the summer. 6 goals and 2 assists so far this season, mostly playing as an AM, but has previously played at CF, DM. He's a hard working midfielder who likes to drift out to the left (similar to Hourihane), puts a lot of ball into the box early and has a decent shot
Davis Keillor-Dunn - someone capable of being an immediate starter at AM. 26 years old, Mansfield, but only 1 year into a 2.5 year contract so may cost more than we're willing to pay. 14 goals and 5 assists so far, a good dribbler through the middle of the pitch
Stephen Wearne - i mentioned him a few weeks ago. He's only 22 years old, plays mostly at CM (can play on the wing or at AM) and has 11 goals and 10 assists in 25 games for Gateshead (NL). He's a willing runner with a fantastic first touch.
We should also be targetting L1 players who're out of contrcat in the summer, but mindful that promotion rivals are unliekly to sell to us. Get them in cheap now so their club gets somethijg for them while they can. For example, Charlton are now 14 points off top 6, so some players could be available.
Corey Blackett-Taylor - if he's available for a reasonable fee, we have to be in for him. We need to add someone who is a dribbler and finisher from the wide areas - Blackett-Taylor is both. Also originally from the Midlands, so should make it easier to tempt him to come.
Others out of contract in the summer: Josh Earl (CB/LB/LWB, Fleetwood), Rio Adebisi (LWB, Crewe), Sam McCallum (LWB, Norwich) George Dobson (CM, Charlton), Owen Moxen (CM, Carlisle), Stephen Humphrys (RW/CF, Wigan), Ruel Sotiriou (AM/LW/CF, Leyton Orient).
Divin Mubama and Callum Marshall (both West Ham CFs) are also out of contract in the summer, but will demand compensation. Both will be in very high demand with some Championship interest too.

Loach is also helpijg out by being a keeper coach rather than just being the 3rd choice GK

The alternative is either Wilson (Mendez-Laing and Barkhuizen then have to play the full 90) or 3 at the back (Bradley at CB or Forsyth at CB with Elder LWB).
Ward should be capable enough against Fleetwood

He scored 3 and assisted 2 in the 3 FA Cup games he had against L2 opposition (Swindon and 2 games against Stockport). Worth a punt.

The squad we have now is capable of it, if used correctly. What happened 18 months ago doesn't magically change that.
