bcnram reacted to IlsonDerby in David McGoldrick - joined Notts County
All this b******* about him being another year older… he wasn’t enjoyable to watch because he covered ground like Kante. He was a joy to watch because he’s 3 moves ahead that the opposition in his head.

bcnram reacted to RoyMac5 in Paul Warne appointed as Head Coach
I can't agree with that statement. But I will agree that Warne is probably our best bet currently, even if I'm not convinced. Still that's what the summer transfer window is for isn't it, or so many are saying. We will see. I hope he gets it right because I hate League 1 football.

Warne’s record against top half sides.
P15 W2 D6 L7
Warne came in at a time when we played crap teams.
Rosenior’s nine games in charge saw us face 7 top half sides in Plymouth, Posh, Barnsley, Wycombe, Charlton, Shrewsbury and Lincoln.
Warne’s record against bottom half sides is P22 W15 D5 L2
We played a disproportionate amount of bottom half teams under Warne.
He has proven to be a flat track bully who has struggled the moment we have faced anyone decent.
2 wins in 15 is pathetic.

agree with you completely
i just do not think he fits our style as a club at all and he has a small club mentality
he was succesful at rotherham for a reason ( doing fine without him by the way)
there is no long term success with warne in my eyes

Warne is all mouth though tbh. Still needs a chance to actually buy players though.
looking back we should have kept Rosenior mind. Bloke was loyal and we sent him away.

David Clowes is in a far better position to assess that than you don't you think.

I asked Stephen about rebuilding the academy and he was saying how difficult it is because some of the young players released from Prem academies want a lot of money, above what we could afford to pay this season. Hopefully next season will be better.
Stephen wasn't very impressed with having to sit in with the Bristol Rovers supporters when we were down there (I was complaining to him about our away stand!) but David said he didn't mind it and stood up and applauded when we scored even though surrounded by Rovers' fans.
David just generally chatty, seemed happy to be amongst us. I spent more time chatting with his wife, who is lovely.
It was heartwarming to see them so involved and relaxed with the supporters, a marked contrast to last year, of course. But that applied to the players and management, too. I know we are in a much better place this year, but even so, it feels like there is a culture change right from the top of the Club.

bcnram reacted to Mostyn6 in Mel Morris
I may be in a minority here, but think the feeling of hatred towards Mel is too much. He gambled, and thought he was too clever for his own good, and for Derby's good, but in reality, his intentions were true and good.
Lionel Pickering left Derby County in administration, and opened the pathway for the Three Amigos to get control of the club. Lionel is held in high regard. But his judgement was poor too.
Double standards.

Don’t think we need to but am sure clowes himself said wasn’t a long term thing. Just wanted to help the club. Not sure he wants to invest all of his money into derby county

Yeah I’ve really missed the 21s coverage this year. Don’t really have a clue who’s pushing first team. From the brief highlights packages I’ve seen, Taylor-Hart looks to have a lot about him and Dajaune Brown looks a good player
Having said that, our academy is seemingly going to be irrelevant now Warne is the manager. Really can’t see him bringing anyone through. Loves a 29 year old

Much better second half. Deserved the win but purely on the second half performance. First half was crap.

bcnram reacted to Jubbs in Paul Warne appointed as Head Coach
Also another point people make, about having a "League 1 expert" in charge. Here's recent promotions from League 1.
Currently:
Plymouth - Steven Schumacher - First permanent managerial job, first full season.
Ipswich - Kieran McKenna - First senior managerial job, first full season.
21/22:
Wigan - Leam Richardson - Second managerial job, first job in over 9 years, promoted in his first full season.
20/21:
Blackpool - Neil Critchley - First senior managerial job, first season.
So what's this about needing a manager who "knows his way out of the division"?

bcnram reacted to Leeds Ram in Paul Warne appointed as Head Coach
If the fans as a collective turn on the manager, it is generally game over for them. Whilst you should not predicate a managerial appointment on what the fans think, fan support and opinion cannot be totally ignored either. If you play what is deemed unattractive football, which sits in contrast to how we have generally played for the last decade, then a manager will have a more difficult time bringing fans along if things aren't going well. We saw the extremities of this reality with Nigel Pearson.
As far as I am aware, we are able to spend around £8,000 a week as a maximum on players. I've seen some estimates from other posters on here, such as Ghost of Clough, which I believe have us at an estimated 7-10 million a year for wage expenditure across the board, although I may be misremembering. That would put us in the top 6 clubs in the division going off past years for our wage spend. There is no doubt we are spending more than the bottom half of clubs, such as Bristol Rovers, Exeter, Shrewsbury etc., for our playing and coaching staff.
We have brought in good players. We brought in top-level players at this level over the summer who, it is rumoured, rejected contracts from teams in the division above to come play here. Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland, Bolton, Coventry, and Charlton have all been horribly mismanaged over the years, which resulted in a couple of them even knocking around in the 4th tier of football for a bit. I don't know enough about Ipswich to comment on that particular case. It's not denying it's a tough league to get out of, but it is one we should be getting out of, and we should be expecting to do that within a couple of years; with our resources and pull, a decent manager should be able to do it.
Pretending this is our natural level and looking at a short-term appointment to simply get us out of this division without one eye on progression from the championship is, in my book, poor planning. I would expect the assembly of a squad where the spine can compete in the next division. Again, looking to a long-term plan of managing not just next season but also the season after. Teams like Coventry in recent years have shown this can be done with minimal expenditure. My fear with Warne is his record in the championship, which, to put it bluntly, sucks. I'm more than a little nervous that we'll get his squad in place and spend the next few years yoyoing between the championship and this division because of Warne's limitations.

bcnram reacted to Jortat in Bristol Rovers (A) Sat 15th April
I don’t think we can moan about teams time wasting against us as Wildsmiths antics or games manship, whatever you want to call it was embarrassing.
I know he wanted to break the game up but we can’t moan when it happens to us .
I think we were fortunate to get a point if I’m honest and looking at the last 5 games or so I think it really shows our limitations.
I will still back the boys until the end but the playoff position is looking bleaker with each passing game as is our last 5 game’s overall.
We start well with intensity and then fade and become very scrappy. NML was blowing bubbles scurrying up and down the pitch . For the love of god leave him as an offensive winger where he can cause damage and ditch the wing back style and we will give ourselves a better chance imo.
Onto Exeter and another must win. If we wobble on Tuesday I fear it might be all over but win and who knows where the season will take us ?
Wembley hopefully 🐏

I have just listened to Phil Brown on Radio Derby. Rather worryingly, he sounds like a tactical genius compared to Warne. He worries me, he really does. Sometimes a club is too big for someone. I hope I’m wrong.
