In the ghettos of South Normanton a jitty was a footpath between houses from one street to another. A gennal was the arched passage between terraced houses. Some old folk said ginnel.

Would you do it on your driving test? No.
Not sure why people feel the need to "help" other drivers out of junctions - we're capable of getting out of junctions by making our own decision on when there is a suitable gap.
It's people thinking they know better than the rules of the road.
Rather than random signals that mean different things to different people at different times, maybe we could help each other out by  following the rules that we were supposed to learn.
Plus it's an absolute classic crash for cash technique.

The media all acting like this is it. Bit of a grim deathwatch IMO, could be kept private until an announcement.
I'm no monarchist or believer in the devine right of kings, but, reasonable respect for the queen herself and the personal tragedy of losing a loved one.
Zero respect for how the tv and newspapers are going to cover this over the coming days. I remember their nauseating and hypocritical coverage princess Dianna.

    Flashers.
    No not that kind.
The kind who flash you in and out of junctions going completely against the highway code and causing more hold ups than if they had just proceded per the regular flow of traffic.
I take great delight in ignoring them and watching their faces scrunch up in anger as they eventually get the message.

and by dries up - you mean ends up in offshore tax havens
I think the penny is finally starting to drop with people. All the public money that has been printed via quantitative easing and bailouts. It's exited the system and resides in the tax havens of the super rich. The model only works if that money gets circulated into the local economy and stays there
The current proposed energy prize freeze is just a bailout of the energy companies, because the govt know that the whole system will collapse when millions simply can't afford to pay their bills. So rather than recirculate money back from the profiteers into our pockets (via a windfall tax) they are printing new money to give to the profiteers, that we have to somehow pay back over the next 20 years. It's madness

Perhaps the younger generation of workers prefer it at home where they don’t have to listen to people, unable to keep up with the way of the world, droning on about “wokists” because they don’t read the Daily Mail.
Or maybe they quite like having an extra couple of hours a day back not commuting, agency of their own work, better work life balance, spending time with pets or loved ones, increased productivity and simply, the trust of their colleagues to get their own work done.
Could be either. It’s the latter for me, lucky enough not to work with any of the former.

You see - I don't disagree with some of what you say, but the problem is that the man-made climate change is demonstrably real and acting to try and reverse it is an eminently sensible idea (if we want the human race to continue to inhabit the planet).
The fact that the super-rich have hijacked the process to line their own pockets is indeed a sickening thing.
Unfortunately it's also sickening that the same elite powers have also used their malign influence on the  media to create the distraction of climate change scepticism and managed to make a lot of people believe that the problem is somehow a young Swedish girl. Hence they spend their life arguing about that and doing nothing to demand the fair and real changes that we need

No, I certainly wouldn't agree with forcing anyone to become vegan.  I'd be a hypocrite if I did as  I'm not vegan myself.  However, I am very much in favour of replacing the farming of live animals with 'lab' grown meat as soon as that becomes economically feasible.
One of the saddest aspects of the whole climate change debate, and indeed modern society in general, is the complete lack of trust the general public have in expert scientific opinion.  The views of qualified scientists are never guaranteed to be correct of course, and new evidence can always come to light to alter them, but theirs is certainly the best we have on scientific matters.  And that goes for climate scientists.  The notion that the vast majority of climate scientists are predominantly immoral money grabbing opportunists, maliciously lying to humanity and allowing us to believe that we are endangering ourselves and the entire global ecosystem  so they can have a paper published in a scientific journal is frankly absurd. And it fundamentally misunderstands how science works. To make a name for themselves scientists want to disprove the consensus and shatter the status quo if they can, they don't want to publish the 17,000th paper that agrees what everyone else has already said.  If a climate scientist could gather plausible data that contradicts the idea that humans are causing climate change they would be only too eager to do so, and scientific journals would publish it.  This conspiracy narrative also overlooks the fact that plenty climate change research has been funded by the fossil fuel industry itself, rather disproving the whole financially motivated climate scientist argument.
What part of the mechanics of the greenhouse effect do you have a problem with?  If you disagree with human induced climate change then you must surely doubt the greenhouse effect itself.

Trying to catch up on a few here, but here goes:
    - Graeme Sounness is actually not a dinosaur, by his own admission he has done a lot to re-educate himself and worked in many areas of football to do so. There are many in the game with a far less progressive views than his. It was actually a shame he was the one who said what he did (I am minded of Ron Atkinson, who did so much for black players but his comments were beyond reproach so maybe not). It was a turn of phrase, not meant as a sexist one imho, but he should have let himself be corrected - that was his error.
    - The use of 'man' as a phrase, in cricket or as a coloquialism, will recede - and needs to. I'm not saying we are going to rename it Personchester but they are the quiet indicators that woman do not enjoy true equality. There are phrases that were racist in tone that we used to use (n***er in the woodpile being one) and people back then said "I'm not being racist, it's just a phrase". But we stopped, because it's the right thing to do. Don't sweat it...
    - Woke is a vile term, I've never heard used in anything other than a disparaging manner. And I've only ever heard it used by people who seem to fear that they are being directed by others (normally people who seem to want to then direct others). It is a phrase of our time that, on inspection, shows how much many value imposing their view rather than considering others.
    - Grown men in football shirts, outside match day, is just wrong (and, for me, only just tolerable on match days - by others, I never do it). But I don't want to stop others doing it, even if I don't like it. That's the difference, I think - I might not like others doing it, it might annoy me, but I'm not on a mission to stop those who choose to do it. Those who use the term 'woke' about others do seem to think they are at risk of being told how to behave, what to say and what to wear - they see challenge to their belief systems as pure threat. It really shouldn't get your blood pressure rising, it should be chance to learn and grow a bit yourself.
    - The purpose of this thread (I understood) is to sneer a little in the lightest of terms at those things in life that grind your gears. If you are going to lose your lunch over someone wearing a football shirt (I don't think anyone truly is btw) then you maybe need a few minutes in a dark room on your own.
In conclusion, some (in all walks of life) may benefit from being a little less concerned about imposing views and value systems on others and a little more focused on understanding why people hold those views and whether it really will damage the fabric of their lives to just let it go, smile and let them be happy in their decision.
Grown men in football shirts, however, nahhhhh....

The way it's reported is deliberately confusing. No one knows what the average household that the £3.5k annual figure (assuming the cap stays the same for a year, which it won't) looks like.
State the increase in pence per KWH (electric in October 21 was about 18p on BG standard tariff, gas 3p) so the annual increase to 52p and 15p per KWH is three times and five times.
Then report that standing charges have doubled as well to take on the  customers who were previously with the crap privatised firms that undercut themselves out of business.
Then report that we're gonna need more wind turbines, solar panels and hydro electric power and that these companies (and BP) can pay for it using the stacks of cash that they and their directors have creamed off the common man for the last 100 years else we're gonna come round their mansions and stamp on all their toys. The party is over.
