Ian Buxton's Bat reacted to Carl Sagan in Retained List
It's interesting to see the professionalism and know-how we're giving up. I get what you say about Korey. Smith was a model pro in terms of knowing and trying to do his job, whether it was at right back or in the middle. I think he'd be an excellent acquisition for someone in League One, or at the foot of the Championship.
Hourihane was the guy who would get in the ref's face and fight our corner and win freekicks the way other teams would do against us. And he was so brave fronting up to the fans that day, in a really toxic environment, possibly saving Warne his job. A leader, even when he struggled to make the impact we needed on the pitch.
And I've frequently said Wildsmith's ability to take the sting out of the game served us very well. Part of the modern goalkeeper's toolkit. Whoever comes in needs to have this as well perhaps a little more subtly.
But expertise and game management is something we will need the replacement's we're bringing in to possess.

Ian Buxton's Bat got a reaction from Grimbeard in Premier League clubs to vote on scrapping VAR
I'd keep it but bring in the cricket approach of 1 or 2 reviews per team per half, with the captain having 10 seconds to appeal - if you 'burn' your reviews you lose them and then it's on-field ref alone......but if you are correct, you retain your reviews.
For this to work you'd need that absolute clarity on things like handball, which of course is currently part of the problem.
You could even have 'ref's call' like you have 'umpire's call' in cricket with the benefit of the doubt going to the on-field ref if something is a bit borderline.
In cricket, the teams now blame themselves for bad reviews rather than the umpires getting abuse.
But for next season, for any team that votes to keep VAR, I would deduct 2 points each time they moan about it in post match interviews. Those who vote to bin it have a free hit.
I'd also bring in retrospective 5 game bans for anyone found to have gone down feigning a head injury when there was no head contact......whoever does that can do it at their leisure after the game and enjoy themselves.

Ian Buxton's Bat got a reaction from Mucker1884 in Controversial views unchallenged
I read this very quickly and at first thought it said celebrity pitch invasion.. with politics and sombreros - which I'd certainly encourage.
The only problem is that we have so few celebrity fans who are interested in politics that we'd have a topless Geoff Hoon with "free El Chapo" crayoned on his belly trying to outpace stewards with no grip on the soles of their shoes (is that an international steward dress code rule?)

At the risk of opening up another debate on XG..........
I actually like XG as a stat and over a season is a pretty good indicator of the chances created.
We had the lowest XG against in the division.
I think JW is a very decent keeper and I'd keep him - but the team in front of him shielded him more than any other team shielded their keeper.

I didn't know what prosaic meant before this exchange either. I thought it was an anti-depressant.

100% agree.
Roger Milford. Last game of his career.
Nailed on first place......all other dodgy decisions are playing for the runner up spot.
Still irks 30 years on. Probably the worst day of my life from a footballing perspective.

Ian Buxton's Bat got a reaction from Grimbeard in Ed Dawes
Graham Richards had a vocabulary to die for and a great turn of phrase.
Ed Dawes and RD do an excellent job for local radio and don’t deserve the vile abuse they get.
Turn the radio off if you have a problem.

Really decent bloke.
Knows what he’s doing.
Gets results.
Football isn’t easy on the eye.
To almost quote Meatloaf….3 out 4 ain’t bad.
Deserves a lot a credit as well for juggling all the injuries.
