I still don’t understand why everyone leaves it to the last bloody day to try and do so much business.

It's counter-intuitive I suppose but simple really.

As said, like Ebay 'you' set a date and wait for the best offer. Why would you sell early when there's a very decent chance someone will come in with a better offer.

If we got rid of the window, clubs would just accept the offer they felt was fair if no one else was interested.

Becomes a game of poker where no one wants to reveal what they are willing to pay until the last minute. If your budget is £1m, you register lower interest and wait. If you bid £1m early then the current club have a figure to stimulate interest, push up the price and other clubs will start to get anxious. Thus a good chance someone else bids a few quid more. Again, better to wait and not give away your hand/budget.

Add in that clubs at the top of the chain aren't really that fussed about letting fringe/younger players go. They will do all their business first but let it be known if they get what they want their players may be available. When they are happy they allow crumbs to drop off the table and allow their back up players out on loan. Again why bid decent money for a lower league player when you could get a better player on loan for nothing- obviously lots of clubs are thinking the same thing and waiting with their begging bowls in line.

Have you registered on the Oxford forum yet? That Buckingham bloke isn't playing Sibbo at all, let alone as an attacking midfielder. Surely, he has to go too?

Sibley has an assist from open play to his name , already this season . Bird has a couple . What we wouldn’t give for a midfielder that creates chances from open play .

This simply can’t be sustainable in league one

It's crazy money for League One, but he's not a League One striker - he's a decent Championship striker that's 21 years old who could very well go on to be a Premier League player in the future. Delap went for a similar amount to Ipswich and I think they're comparable players.

Birmingham have recruited excellently - they've gone for good young players, plenty of room to develop and some they will inevitably turn a profit on. They deserve a lot of credit - regardless of division they've built a good team.

Mentioned this before...but well worth watching 'Sunderland Til I Die' (season 2) - not just for the hilariously odious sidekick he brought in - but to watch Stuart Donald's rising anxiety having been slightly shafted by players leaving and upping and upping his bid for Will Grieg. Who then goes on to be absolute pants, and probably gets him an absolute ton of abuse for wasting his own money on.

So what you're saying is that Sibley has 4 assists from open play this season and Bird has eight. That's some good going for our former players.

Edit: Just seen it's jumped to 5 and 10. Wow!

Don’t know what’s going wrong here.

We've created chances from open play, but maybe need someone who can put them away.

I remember that! The manager told him not to go above a certain amount, then it cuts to him in his office on the phone saying: "One million...alright two million...ALRIGHT FOUR MILLION!"

Almost as bad as wanting the stadium to be like Ibiza before the game 😂

Yep having a ton of money to spend in league 1 has helped them. They haven't got to worry about it till in the championship. By then they've got a good young squad to cope.

So where are we with targets...

Defenders

Cooper, Nelson (Leicester), Reach, Wiredu, Johnsom

Strikers

Keane, Adeboyejo, Cannon, Joao, Woodrow, Sidibeh, Ladapo,  Al Hamadi

Others

Longman, Embleton

Wouldn't be surprised if we spent a Shaun Barker-esque fee to get a striker out of desperation.
