Herbie Kane

Recommended Posts

Herbie Kane could potentially be a good signing for Derby County, depending on their specific needs and his performance. He's a talented midfielder with potential, but it ultimately depends on how he fits into Derby's squad and their strategic objectives.

I think you’re right @Srg. Played 35 games for Oxford in league one, providing 6 assists in the 21/22 season.
For Barnsley it’s 9 goals and 5 assists in 41 league one games the season just gone, 4 goals and 6 assists in 40 league one games last season, and did play 24 games for them in the championship in 20/21.
Came through at Liverpool’s academy and has plenty of experience as a 25 year old. Could be a good option on a free to strengthen in midfield.

Herbie Kane has been a good player for a while now, going back to his first loan spell at Doncaster where he pulled up trees in League One from the off. He’s just not progressed from the division, despite being consistently one of the better players at that level for a long time now.

It’s a signing that makes sense purely on the sheer number of central midfielders we need to bring into the club. He must feel likes he’s done all he can at that level and will want to show he has more at a higher level - whether he does or not is anyone’s guess.

This would definitely be a replacement for Bird.

Not a prolific goalscorer (although his stats last year were good) and not an Ebou either. Just a very tidy midfielder.

Barnsley fans seem to like him overall. Judging by their comments, he can pass & dictate play against open teams, gets goals & assists (10 & 5 this season), and has loads of MoM awards, but is slow and inconsistent. He's a played shedload of 90' games this season, so he must be in good nick. When he has played in the Championship, his stats were pretty bad and Barnsley loaned him back to Oxford in L1. Is he ready for another crack?
Sounds like he wanted out in January though. Maybe our coaching & fitness staff can knock him into shape. As previous posters have said, he's 25 and free, and we desperately need midfielders.

Proved himself a good player at League 1 level for multiple years now, obviously a question mark over whether he can make the step up but on a free transfer its more than worth the risk.

Slow and not good when pressed. Questionable attitude. Can't tackle.  Inconsistent passing.  These comments from that link are not getting me enthused.

I wouldn't read too much into them - this is a typical attitude when players are departing.

Look back at the Max Bird thread when it was announced he was leaving - 'doesn't affect games enough', 'we'll need better in the Championship', etc.

Edit: Just realised these comments were made back in December!

Had a season long loan from a struggling Barnsley side into League 1 for the season, then back in the Barnsley side in League 1.  Players can improve but that sort of thing rings alarm bells of a ready made signing in case the worst happens.  That thinking means it often does.

He was only like 21 at the time. Don't think it's indicative of much.
