The fans were singing we’re going to Wembley, which may be a bit premature, but it’s what most fans that go to the games want.

There's different ways of winning a football match, We don't do Champaign football, It may not be good on the eye...but a win was the aim, Wembley is a good day out, I was at the Anglo Italian Cup Final against Cremonese who gave us a lesson in football, The day out was good as any Day Out in London is, Losing a piss poor cup final meant nowt...if we do get there...I'll wager there'll be 40k+ who'll want a ticket.

Of their starting 11, their goalkeeper has one league appearance this season. Adebayo-Rowling has 9. Macari has none. Rawlinson has 9, but 33 minutes in the last 5 games. Tipton has no appearances. Nemane has 11, so is a regular starter. Same with O'Brien. Same with Austin. Bostock has 12 appearances. Morias 2. And Didzy 11.

So 4 or 5 of their lineup are fringe players at best.

But you can only beat the team that's in front of you. And some of their fringe players looked decent. I'm surprised their goalkeeper wasn't their main man, he was excellent.

Agreed about their keeper and they played it around on the floor nicely. A lot of their possession was in their half though, and went back to their keeper on multiple occasions. Get the old adage that “they can’t score if they haven’t got the ball”, but they were hardly hurting us. Their quick corner routines were as bad, if not worse than anything we’ve tried in the last 13-month.

The stadium announcement gave their keeper the man of the match award.

So given promotion is priority and given we ‘ran out of players’ last season wouldn’t it have been better to test some of the youngsters?

No , prefer to win the game and build confidence In the first team squad , there’s plenty of time for academy players when they start banging out results at academy level, this is just another silly stick to bear warne with which some need when we win🤷🏻‍♂️

The U21s don't play again for over 2 weeks. They have a league game just 2 days before our first team plays Wolves U21s in this cup competition.

This was a 2nd string Notts County side who also lost to Wolves U21s. This was the best possible opportunity to give meaningful minutes to a couple of our academy players, which they could then carry that confidence through to the U21 games. It would also give the rest of the U21 squad a sign that they will be given a go in the first team if they perform well.

What sort of message do you think it gives when you say they would have had a few minutes at 2-0, but it was too risky at 2-1?

It give s the sign that the first team is everything as it should be

Why put them on the bench then? I’m sorry but these games are a little step up from academy games, which is why a load of U21s teams are playing in it.

The only things we got out the game are confirming as a team we’re crap at finishing and that Sibley is our main goal threat and PW should have played him more when fit.

Exactly,,,,,, why put them on the bench 🤷🏻‍♂️, unless it’s to fill spaces where he wants to give first team squad members a rest and give academy player s the experience of being in a first team squad with the possibility they MIGHT get some minutes if the situation is right in the managers opinion ,

totally bizzare this putting academy BEFORE the first team ( mel tried it ) but yea it’s another stick to beat a manager some don’t like with🤷🏻‍♂️

Exactly this.

But beating Notts County’s second team was more important than the academy and trying to reward the players that are showing potential.

Let’s give Collins another 90 minutes against Wolves U21s just to see if he can find his shooting boots 🤣🤣

Yep , let’s 🤷🏻‍♂️

I remember when Wassall was around, he'd talk of the positive effect that 'his' players getting minutes would have on the rest of the academy lads.

They'd come back buzzing, the rest of the squad would be full of questions, they'd see it as proof that they can get real opportunities at first team level if they work hard, the levels at training would go up a notch.

Even if it wasn't minutes on the pitch, it was time spent alongside senior pros, a higher standard, technically, in training.

When the lads who were in last night's squad go back to the U21s, will they be going back with the same experiences to share? Is there anything they'll learn from the way Warne & his coaches work that they'll be able to take with and use to improve their performances at that level?

You’ve just answered your warne knockers question of why put them on the bench if your not going to play them😂

He went through the list of players who are currently injured, players away on international duty and players with niggles. The squad last night involved every first team player who doesn't fall into one of those categories. It would have been bizarre if Warne had named a bench containing only Wildsmith, Nyambe and Smith.

Making a couple of changes with 20 minutes to go, when 2-0 up, doesn't mean putting the academy BEFORE the first team. Both the first team and academy benefit from this scenario.

Hilarious , you asked why put them on the bench if your not going to play them ,then state that it’s clear that he had not much choice but to put them on the bench , warnes job is first team manager and to get the club promoted, I don’t really want him bogged down in a decimated academy rebuilding job thanks 👍, last time I checked we had coaches employed for that job , now if there is a player in there that is setting the world alight I expect one of those coaches to be bugging the hell out of warne to consider checking if he’s good enough or ready for the FIRST TEAM ,

I get it, we won so some need to open up another front on the war on warne , I just don’t buy it , get on with getting this club promoted as fast as you can please Mr warne , if you can’t do it then there will come a time to hit the road🤷🏻‍♂️

We just need to be more clinical.

Yesterday we scored 2 goals from 6 or 7 chances, which is more "clinical" than average.

Same in the league, we have 18 from 57 chances which is 3 more than our fair share. It's our opponents that haven't scored enough (11 from 49 chances).
