Elwood P Dowd
An Audi A3. I bought it new, within a few weeks it had a new gearbox it had strange issues with the steering\tracking, the radio didn’t work, the dashboard rattled, the heated rear screen didn’t work. Mostyn6
2005 BMW X3 2.5l Auto. Lovely car but purchased from a very shady dealership in Nuneaton. It drove lovely but after 4 months, I looked down to see how fast/slow the car in front was doing, and the Speedo was showing I was doing 140mph!. I pulled over and killed the engine. Then restarted and the Speedo was doing 0mph. Took it to a very trusted mechanic and he told me that he suspected it had been under water, and that somebody had shorted the instrument/dashboard cluster. I had to use the Speedo on WAZE App to ensure I was staying within Speed Limit. Eventually, it was coming up to MOT and I hadn't put a single mile on the clock, in spite of driving about 30000 miles in the year! So I offloaded it to webuyanycar for £1100. Paid £3000 for it only 18months earlier! It drove lovely, but also had substantial Oil Leak, sometimes the Powertrain light would come and and it would jolt when dropping down the gears. Sometimes, I'd have to start ignition sequence repeatedly until it was running without a warning light on. Trading Standards got the bloke/dealer for being dodgy. He'd better pray I don't even bump into the weasel.

Gorgeous looking in bright red & lovely to drive, with a "Sport" mode that would throw you back in your seat. Lovely car... When I worked for a big company, about 10 years ago, they had a company car scheme. You could choose any vehicle you wanted apart from "campervans and Alpha Romeos"! Gaspode
Many years ago I was sent for a day trip to one of the company's depots in Guildford - thought it would be a nice jolly until they gave me the keys to the pool car - an Autin Montego estate. It looked like a shed on wheels - and it drove like a shed on wheels. It just had no substance to it at all - slam the driver's door and the whole thing rattled - absolutely terrifying on the motorway in torrential rain.....the epitome of everything wrong with British car manufacturing in the late 1980s.... A few car company bosses are bragging at an industry event..: Jaguar Boss: "Our fit & finish is so good that we lock a cat in our completed car and if it hasn't suffocated due to lack of oxygen within 6 hours, then we reject the vehicle" Merecedes Boss: "We too have a similar test but reject the car if within 2 hours, the cat has not suffocated" In walks the Alfa boss: "Our cat-test is slightly different. If, within 30 minutes, the cat has not escaped....." Edited November 8, 2022 by Wolfie RadioactiveWaste

ColonelBlimp
I think the worst car i owned was a V reg (1980) Ford Fiesta - Got it from a second hand garage in Hayling Island, what a lemon. Best car is tricky, I loved my 1st car, a 1972 VW Beetle 1300 but it was a bit rusty on the running boards and the brake pedal went to the floor. I would have to say the best was MK1 Ford Focus 1.8, never broke down and had it for 8 years or so with many camping trips to the south of France/Spain, loaded to the brim with equipment and people (me, the missus and two sons)

You've got it - probably about 20 yards from there. The police were there in less than the time it took me to run to the Crewe and Harpur and back (no mobile phone for me for another couple of years). I had pushed my car as close to the wall as possible, so there was just room for vehicles to pass (I guess a Breedon & Cloud Hill Limeworks wagon might have struggled though). Tyler Durden
Ford Escort Mark III. Obviously Ford designed their cars so that they would naturally biodegrade, more accurately rust to bits. Remember there was more rust in the wheel arches then actual wheel arches. Vauxhall Nova - had the party trick of the engine still running with the ignition turned off, but when you switched off the front headlights the engine then stopped. Vauxhall Vectra - car was worth about 1200 quid when the timing belt snapped and smashed most of the pistons to smithereens in the engine. Garage bill about a grand to fix. If it was possible to drive the car to a field and set fire to it would have done.
SSD
Had a Saxo for just under a year. £700. Bought it off an older lady, expecting it to be cared for. She must have ragged it around. The car was a absolute scrapheap on wheels. Driving down the motorway it was like Russian roulette, no idea if you'd make it to the other side or in a puff of smoke. A friend wanted to buy it but I couldn't do it, I said you're better off going on a bus than driving this pile of dirt.

Reminds me of the "OLO - One Lady Owner" tag often applied to used car ads under some pretense that such a label might indicate a car in good condition. In my experience that means it's mostly been driven short distances and sat on the driveway for extended periods, top gear has never been used, speed bumps have been barrelled over, servicing has only been carried out when there's stuff leaking from underneath, the paint on the offside is scratched to s*** because it's been driven too close to the kerb, wiper blades are original and the interior has been used as a bin for 95% of it's life. My mate once had a car that the boot didn't lock and you could use a spoon to start in the absence of a key. Either that or a Dodge Caravan are the worst cars I've experienced.
