Excuses

I am waiting for some patio furniture that should be due to arrive in June but I have received an email telling me that the containers that ship the furniture are only half the size they should be and the full size shipping containers are in the wrong place. There’s been a hold up in the Suez Canal bla bla bla oh and a bit of Brexit too.

Has any one else been sold this guff?

No the excuses

Yes, very much so.

we were having a whole new heating system installed last autumn. Ripping out the boiler entirely, putting in solar hot water, and Infra red panels in all the ceilings.

Hot water came first, and the plumbers installing that also ripped out the radiators and boiler while they were there. On the promise that’s the heaters would be less than a week away. All organised by the same bloke, so theoretically all coordinated.

a series of disasters later, including the electrician (the guy’s son in law) getting Covid, the wrong heaters being delivered, the new ones being shipped from Australia, time differences to speak to the suppliers, the suis canal, the guy himself being in and out of hospital with some unknown illness, and we ended up spending all winter with little fan heaters around the house. Finally got the Infra red heaters installed in February, still waiting on one little one in the downstairs toilet, and a new battery in the attic, which, theoretically should make all this cost barely anything to run, but until we get that, it’s costing a fortune in electricity. I had to pay extra for that battery in February, when only then it became clear that this would be too much load on my current battery. Still not installed yet. The latest excuse is that he’s got the battery, but the cable required to install it is out of stock everywhere!

oh and then one of the Infra red heaters spontaneously exploded showering my bedroom with glass. Apparently just a one in a million manufacturing error, he had it replaced within a couple of days though. I was worried at that point he’d just start to block my number.

Problem is, although the solar hot water was what I first got in touch with him about, through a company, and therefore I can follow that up, go over his head or whatever, the heating was something he said he could sort out for me himself. So I’ve got no head office to go to for help.

And the thing is, this is such a weird year, his excuses could all be legit, until everything goes back to normal in June (hopefully). So I’m not sure what’s an appropriate level of pissed off to get. And at what point I need to start threatening small claims court for this battery I’ve paid for that’s not materialised.

ah, that feels a bit better.

I ordered a leather sofa once that was being made in Belgium .  It arrived 6 weeks after I was told it was arriving and spent that time sitting on a deck chair in my living room.  The hold up coming from BELGIUM was apparently due to Chinese new year .  When it turned up the leather was a variety of colours and the delivery guy told me the supplier had been changed and it was made in Latvia, not Belgium .  It had to be changed three times and was still crap. Wasn't DFS but another company with the same number of letters.

Also had a massive articulated lorry arrive at my house once with a bloke wanting to drop of about 60 carpets. I Don't live in Chatsworth and it appears my address had been put in the warehouse box on the form when I ordered 1 carpet. My 1 carpet was left in a warehouse in Liverpool. That was fun.

Someone who delivered for DFS said if you order a leather sofa it comes from China but a material one is made here. Delivery times are a lot quicker

My builder has cancelled on me and promised to give back the outstanding balance for works not completed (he had to fire all his team because they were alcoholics and were constantly drunk on the job). He's delayed paying me as he's now working in Germany and German pay day is the 4th of July.

I'm getting a faint whiff of pigs, or is it cows? No, no - it's bull.

It's only £500, not belittling the amount but he could have had a hell of a lot more from me. Doubt I'll see it again.

Had a new kitchen installed a few years ago, wont say which company but was beset by problems throughout.

The doors are the gloss ones, so the fitter puts them all on, looking good, only i notice that he has placed one of the handles slightly out of alignment with the rest. Hes mumbling about it only being a few mm, but its not level ive paid a lot of money i want it right.

So we have to get two new doors ordered for the particular cupboard. A few weeks later they arrive, fitted, yes...the handles now are in the right place, but hang on a minute....the finish is like a fine orange peel effect where the other doors are perfectly smooth.

Contact head office...the excuse is they are from a different batch, i say but surely they can be smooth like the rest, 'oh you must have got a really good batch the first time',  obviously i dont stand for this and eventually they agree to order two new doors.

They arrive, same again, same excuses with a 'little we can do'. I am not happy and the next lot that arrive do eventually sort the issue.

All seems ok until a few months down the line...we have a leak from the sink, and notice its started to crack along the bottom.

Back on the head office....got a crack in the sink, its leaking. Response 'Have you been putting anything hot down the sink?' - 'Yes of course I have' i reply, they say 'That sounds like its it', I reply with 'thats crazy of course we are going to empty hot water from pans etc down the sink'. This goes on, obviously im not having that i cant drain vegetable water etc down the sink.

We end up with two reps from BEKO out who take one look and suggest that the crack is from being fitted incorrectly, when i mention the hot water the reply is along the lines of 'what a load of .........'.

Some low life broke into my car by smashing the passenger door window. I rang my insurance company and they agreed to fix it if I paid the excess to Autoglass.

Great I thought until they sent someone who quite obviously hadn't much experience at doing the work. After 3 visits and attempts to fix it, he finally leaves me with a new window but no way of opening it. His expert analysis was that glass fragments had got into the motor and this wasn't covered under the insurance.

I rang Autoglass back obviously not happy at this but after being passed around a couple of times I was still getting the same response. They finally agreed to send someone out to have another look. Don't send the same bloke I insist. We won't, they say, we'll send someone who's a specialist in that job. Why the fook they didn't send him in the 1st place is a mystery.

It turns out the specialist wasn't as clued up either. He turns up and his first question was. Have you any fuses mate? What??, I say, you've turned up to check this and not come equipped. 5 minutes later and after fumbling around he declares the initial work has been done to the required standard.

Bullshizzle. Back on to customer service and they say there is nothing more they can do. I will have to get an independent assessment for them to have anything else to do with this job.

Luckily the mechanic that does the MOT and servicing on my car confirmed my suspicions that I was being fobbed off. He was an absolute diamond and fired off an email to Autoglass confirming the job had been botched and there was no way glass fragments could get into a sealed motor unit.

Hallelujah, they finally accepted responsibility and agreed to my mechanic rectifying the job. It cost just shy of a grand to rectify. The car wasn't worth much more tbh. The moral of the story is when you know you're right, keep stamping your feet and don't let these corporate heavy weights fob you off. Apologies for the length of that rant.
