Agree. And we’ve done an extremely good job of that since Rooney has taken charge, as demonstrated by the form table, and being 6 points clear of the bottom 3 off the back of one of the worst starts to the season ever in the championship.

Work still to do, we’re not out of it but absolutely nothing to worry about. There is no way this team is going down.

Do the other teams know that we are not going down. Discuss.

A free hit isn’t the same as throwing the match though. It was a free hit, wee weren’t expected to get anything from a game away at Watford. Anything we got from that game would be a bonus. But we didn’t set out to loose, or throw the game, we went there to win. But the fact that we didn’t isn’t really a big deal. A good performance in the second half is pleasing, and we take that into the two must win matches next.

You've contradicted yourself slightly though by ending your summary by saying that the next two games are must win matches.

If we'd won last night then this would have taken the pressure off the next two games somewhat to not being must win or whatever euphism you want to use.

Look at Coventry this afternoon. Were they expected to get anything from the game against the side second in the Championship? Obviously they didn't read the script or treat it as a free hit.

It was obvious Coventry were going to beat Brentford.

They’d lost the previous two games and Coventry have already taken a few big scalps this season.

This is Brentford’s yearly wobble - it happens any time people start to think it might be their year.

Not a good start to the afternoon

Wendies and Florist will probably win today. The outstanding work done by Wayne and his team have not got us safe yet. Another manager who wanted to change everything could well have had us locked the bottom two of this league.

I think you misunderstand the meaning of free hit. Coventry weren’t expected to get anything from Brentford. That’s the definition of a free hit. They gave it a go, and they got something from it. Good for them. But if they hadn’t have got anything from it, no one would have been too surprised or worried.

Our next two games are just win, always were, whether we’d beaten Watford or not. You’re contradicting yourself by implying that if we’d beaten Watford, we could have taken our foot off the gas for our next two games. It would certainly have been nice to beat Watford, and we didn’t set out to lose, but it would have been a nice bonus, not an expected result. A free hit is a game where there is no pressure. You’re saying that if we’d beaten Watford we would have no pressure against Huddersfield ie we’d have had a free hit against Huddersfield.

that wouldn’t be true though, Huddersfield isn’t a free hit in any circumstances, they’re a team we should be catching, and a team we should be expecting to beat.
