Mo Salah plays on the right whilst being left footed.

So did Robben. So did Johnny Russell.

Fair play to you it must have taken you hours to dig out 2 opportunities we've created this season.

Interesting thanks I really like how you presented that. There will be other factors, but you highlight that it is a simple game which I'm increasingly seeing that the current coaching regime are intellectualising which causes confusion and, well is just likely to miss the basic points.

Nothing wrong with Lawrence playing on the left. The ball came from the right so using his right is fine, but he had a touch too many, poor execution - but right idea.

Waghorn vs Bournemouth - the defender is covering his run, he hasn’t got the pace to get away. We’re lacking pace still up top. That’s an issue.

Good points I don't think it's necessarily that simplistic though.

Waghorn has long been profligate in front of goal especially in 1 vs 1s.

Can't remember the last deadly striker we had and to be fair if they were that deadly they wouldn't be playing for us in the Championship.

I think we're at the position now where we expect to miss rather than score as the whole team confidence is shot.

The whole underlying cause is that we don't generate enough goalscoring opportunities due to our set up or when we do get promising positions we balls it either through poor selection of pass or inevitably someone running offside. No names mentioned.

Against Barnsley We had 71% possession, 9 attempts & 3 shots on goal.

Watching the game how many clear cut chances did we have ?‍♂️

If you don't shoot you don't score. Its so poor. We put crosses in when they have three defenders back & one of our attackers in the box. We dont win second balls or 50/50 and were too easy to defend against. We don't comit men forward & take a gamble want to score. If we put a cross in 3 or 4 players should be running in trying to get on the end of it.

One of our major problems is that we are too slow, pace wise and style wise.

Teams in this division have a tendency to sit back and counter (especially away) so when we play it out from the back, get to the halfway go back, get to the half way line, go back again then look for another stacking angle the other team have shut us down.

Its no coincidence we’ve created our best opportunities from openly this season on few times we have a counter attack when the opposition havent had chance to settle.

Thanks for the analysis and highlighting these examples. For me the game hinged yesterday on Lawrence refusing an easy shot with the goal at his mercy. It would have put us into the lead.

Tom could have simply passed or blasted it into a largely empty goal, first time, with his right foot. It's a great example of why we don't score but I thought it was perfectly set up for an instinctive right foot finish. He clearly has zero confidence and wasn't prepared to hit it first time. Instead he took half a dozen touches to prepare himself for the shot, running into a crowd of players leaving him very little to aim at. For me it's a confidence issue with him.

For Waggy I don't think he believed he had the pace to go straight for goal, so needed to fashion a shot from further out. Hence trying to move the ball onto his left. These chances aren't as good as they look when the forward isn't fast enough to capitalize. But it's also a confidence thing and you're right the most likely way to score is to back your pace against the defender and go straight for goal, cutting across in front of them to block their chase if you can get ahead.

We have fast youngsters who love scoring goals, and don't have the same fear as older players. Right now the reason we don't score is probably because we refuse to play any of Jahmal Hector-Ingram, Morgan Whittaker or Jack Stretton.

You can’t win with fit and eager kids Carl. Look at Barnsley yesterday. 29% possession. Shocking.

Reasons we don’t score:-

No real quality or confidence up front.

Playing only 3 or 4 forward thinking players in the starting 11 having to attack against  9 or 10 men in position, ready to defend, every game.

Being laboured in our ‘approach’ play, I question approach because that hints at moving the ball forward to actually approach the opposition goals.
(This leads to the previous point being easy for the opposition to get back and be in position to defend).

Not wanting to, or being unable to, hit teams on the break due to a lack of ability or pace.

Having players always looking backwards or sideways rather than a forward pass ‘just in case’ they lose possession.

Add on to this some players on the park wearing the white shirt not giving their all, or if they are, they are lacking the ability to make any difference.

Add in to this a team structure that some seem unable or unwilling to implement and playing as individuals.

This is why we don’t score.

We don’t score goals because we haven’t got a decent centre forward - been the problem all season

we have plenty of fluffy players who some think are good eg Lawrence,Holmes, jozwiak ( time will tell) and in more detail Lawrence does score some goals but from a tremendous amount of chances and doesn’t pass it to a better positioned team mate when he can whilst never actually tackling or tracking back properly, he is an individual and not a team player in all reality and we got more out of Jamie Ward with a bad hamstring. Holmes, well he hardly plays for a reason because he generally doesn’t actually do much apart from a couple of games a season against lower level teams. Players like Waghorn give us more in terms of competitive attitude and options but individuals can give help around a main centre forward which we don’t have.

centre forward has to be a good one and if not play with two of them and give centre half’s something to do

...This is how I see it too...It’s been said before we try to score the perfect goal, building a series of passes together so by the time we actually get in the final third the opposition is well organised and outnumber our ‘attackers’.

There were so many times yesterday and in previous games where I have counted 7 or more opposition ‘defenders’ outnumber our 4 or 5 attackers. Teams are well prepared to play us. They know how we try to play and we offer no surprise element.

Simply put, we are easy to play against because of our predictability to play perfect football.

Yes the kind of CF you would offer a 2 year contract to.
