Reasons why we don’t score

Diagrams are very usefull when explaing things as you have done, In real terms there's a plethara of reasons why we don't score goals, Snatching at the ball, One touch too many, Over running the ball, Lack of confidence, Shooting when a player is in a better position, Falling over, Being tackled, Freezing infront of the goal...see confidence.

What i've seen over this season so far is...the players do not get into the oppositions box enough, Our wide play in the final 3rd is poor, Our inability to break an organised defence down, No point what so ever in having the lions share of the ball and not making their goalkeeper earn his corn.

So we're back to our style of play and how the players are being coached...imo.

I think the Blackburn game completely shocked all the coaches. Since then they've been terrified of committing too many players in attack. In the last few games they have been playing much higher up the pitch out of desperation for a win, but unfortunately they seem to have poor or no attacking tactical plan at all. It's so easy for any opponent at the moment. All they have to do is get everyone behind the ball, let us pass it around at the back, and wait for the inevitable mistakes any championship level team would make playing this style.

Every word of this.

I know you’re not a fan of right footers playing on the left @RamNut, seen you mention it a few times, but that isn’t the reason we’re not scoring.

I could create a list of players that score lots of goals playing on the opposite side of their stronger foot.

Would argue one of the big reasons we haven’t scored is we’re just too slow moving the ball around, we allow teams to get back and set themselves up and stick the kettle on whilst we give Marshall the ball, which we did the other night following a throw in near their box.

It’s ok keeping the ball, but if you’re not creating chances, you may as well take a few risks which we don’t seem willing to do.

We also look to be extremely short of confidence, you could find multiple examples where our forwards have chosen to pass rather than pop one off.

Around 80 minutes desperation kicks in and you see a couple of wild efforts through frustration.

Right foot on left, left on right is the modern game now. Getting to the bar line and whipping crosses in to the big number 9 is dying.

You only have to look at the quality balls Buchanan puts in the box yet nobody is even there, having Lawrence on the right would actually see less chance of him scoring.

Of course the most obvious answer to this is that ever since we had a reboot of the forum @David has steadfastly refused to reinstate the Oranje theme.  Even worse he's replaced it with a dark (night mode) theme.

Dark as in foreboding and grim.  We've won eff all since these decisions have been made.

Coincidence?  I think not.

In fairness dark theme was requested quite a bit, only a couple asked for Orange. Stop trying to make me work more! ?

Wrong footed players isn’t the exclusive reason why we don’t score, but it is a significant factor as to why a Lawrence-Rooney-Waghorn front line won’t work.

we need effective wingers. Jozwiak could do a job on the right, but we’re bolloxed on the left. We end up playing wierd formations and putting the attacking responsibility onto the full backs because we lack effective players in key positions, and we are over loaded with misfits that for some reason we are fixated with playing.

The main problem i see every game is that we just play too slow.

We get in good areas(sometimes)and then just seem to pass backwards all the time. this slows the game down and allows our opponents to get back in shape with men behind the ball. we struggle to break teams down because we always allow them to have so many players behind the ball.

Iit has been a constant theme since Cocu took charge. Look back at the Lampard era, it was all about fast play and taking some risk. When you play fast the opponents cant get back in time and when you play slow they are always back in shape ready to defend.

This is the best reason we dont have more clear cut chances, good post.?

It's this in my opinion, we're just far far far to slow in what we're doing, and it's easy to defend against.

If they could do what Cocu wanted at the pace and intensity required by the championship we'd be a hell of a team. But we can't. We can only do it if we think really hard and do it really carefully, which means it's really slow and even then we're not very good at it.

Interesting but surely that first picture is ideal for a right footer, it comes into him from the right as well.

Against Barnsley We had 71% possession, 9 attempts & 3 shots on goal.

Watching the game how many clear cut chances did we have ?‍♂️

If you don't shoot you don't score. Its so poor. We put crosses in when they have three defenders back & one of our attackers in the box. We dont win second balls or 50/50 and were too easy to defend against. We don't comit men forward & take a gamble want to score. If we put a cross in 3 or 4 players should be running in trying to get on the end of it.

All these stats don't mean anything 71% possession what percentage sideways or backwards passes ?

How many touches in there box?.

What's wrong with a cross into the box and a headed goal football as  gone mad on possession possesion .

Butterworth would have been good in this team he was a sideways/backwards  passing expert.

I sorry to say there is only one to describe Derby at moment and is Fragile.

Our body language show a lack of confidence and fear of making a mistake.

No one player stands out as real leader on the field. Someone who urges others on,leads by example, is vocal when needed, calm when required.

When we go a goal behind there appears to be a sense of deja vu, here we go again probably another defeat.

When score first  our first reaction is to batten down the hatches and camp down in our half for the rest of game handing an initiative  gained back to the opposition. Which then inevitably leads to them scoring.

How has this come about ?

Only the players & management can answer that.

But what ever the answer is they need to find it fast otherwise we'll be sitting rock bottom by the time Santa comes around.
