Well that was depressingly familiar. Lots of possession, decent in midfield, but absolute nothing in attack. No movement, nothing. Anyone who thinks Jack Marriott is the solution needs to watch that half and give their heads a wobble. We had about 80% possession and he touch the ball about twice - because he doesn’t pissing move! Desperately need some attacking incomings or we will never break teams down. System isn’t working for me either - we are defensive enough when we play 4231, 5 at the back just makes things worse, especially with the current wing backs who aren’t suited at all to the role. It’s leaving us with no attacking width, and we’re only a Forsyth or Evans rick away from losing this game. Positives are Bird as usual who is dominating midfield and putting some fantastic balls in, as well as Clarke and Te Weirik who look decent on the overlap. But based on this performance I’m struggling to see anything but another long season ahead of us.

No idea what you are watching Marriott is making run after run spinning of his marker and splitting the centre backs. The problem is behind him ball moving too slowly nobody going round the sides and the lack of anyone to provide imagination in passing forwards

The final "pre-season" game. Sharpness not yet there. Need to move it oh so much faster and better. Be slicker. Of course one of the central three should be striding forward too drawing men out. Evans a lucky boy after his sloppy passing - he's better than that and has to demonstrate it or he'll lose the shirt. Well done to Kelle Roos in both situations.

Shame Sibbo didn't shoot when he created his opening on the edge of the box (finally), instead playing it wide for Fozzy to put a 50/50 ball into the box. Much better for young Louie to have backed himself and found a bottom or top corner in that situation. Clear shooting chances are at a premium.

But an OK first half. Just need to pick it up and play at our pace, not theirs.

I’m trying to think if in my entire life I’ve ever before come across a left-footed player being played on the right.

Bird without Rooney has far more space and responsibility and looks good

evans has gone from being a fringe player to an essential key player in this system. Maybe Bielik will take over the sweeper role in the future?

the centre backs push up which compresses the space and makes it difficult.

its a system designed for wing backs but without natural wing backs to select. Not sure anyone would have predicted Buchanan at right back even after the team list was published.

It really would be ironic if we adopted this system and then sold bogle and Lowe..

so far it’s possession and control at the expense of anything else.

if Roberts, jozwiak and Lawrence are to come in then presumably its at the expense of knight, Holmes and Marriott?

I must say moving to a system that requires wing backs to work properly then selling the only two wing backs at the club that fit that system is peak Derby.

Oh I'd missed that. Just catching up with the news over half-time. Bargain basement fee for the pair too. ?

They honestly seem like a nice bunch over on the Barrow forum.

Here are some of the best snippets so far.

"Two great chances to be in front."

"Holding our shape really well. Impressed so far."

"Don't know how strong the Derby squad is, but so far we have given a really good account of ourselves. Looking like a solid unit."

"HT- I tell you what- that was a great first half for Barrow. Happy to let them have the ball and we’ve had two good chances, just needed a bit more composure, but very good half."

"Question for the Kendal area Bluebirds, Do we have much support in the area & will is now being L2, Can you see support growing??"

"0-0 after 15 mins and we’ve quietened the home crowd successfully."

?

"Meeting up for breakfast and then off to the pub to watch the game, can't wait!"

god you can tell I am bored.

..and yet it's pretty much the only option we have to even try to get width into the team, because we have none up front. We go with the system and .. Bogle gets 'injured', Lowe 'not involved' & we end up having to play people in the wide positions who aren't suitable for the role...

Forsyth looks way out of touch.

Agree

was thinking exactly that

u see it with some players ... usually when they get to a certain point where u can literally read what their brain is thinking and what there next pass is

if we can read it then u can sure ask hell be sure the opposition can to

be just telegraphs everything he does

don’t get me wrong fozzy bombing forward with those delicious first time crosses were a thing of Beauty and he’s still a good crosser of the ball ... defensively solid

he’s just a bit of a liability in time and space on his own half

Our pace is pedestrian. As Higginbottom alluded to we need to move the ball quicker, increase the tempo. It’s ok having 25 passes but there is no end product. And not only is it ineffective it is so painful to watch...
