Early Derby ones for me were Kings Hall, Ajanta Club ( porn cinema by day, punk rock venue by night) and a fair few gigs at The Assembley rooms.

Night club was almost exclusively The Blue Note. I refused to hang out with you oiks at Pink Coconut and the like.

Saw some amazing gigs like The Clash, The Undertones, Joy Division, The Smiths, Ramones in Derby. Not likely to get that calibre of gig in the city these days.

Someone mentioned Talk of the Midlands. My dad and his mates were a band there in its hey day. Sadly the owner, Julian Beck passed away earlier this year. His son Richard is a good friend of mine.

Later on I ventured further afield to The Limit Club in Sheffield, Wigan Casino a few times and International in Manchester. Followed The Jam around the country from 1979 onwards. They played smaller towns like Stafford, Cleethorpes regularly.

Great days...Great thread.

Not a club as such but when I was around 25 I went to the over 25s disco at the Dirty Dev at Buckland Hollow.

You drank in the bar then paid 50p? To go in the disco in the function room.

As the youngest there me and my mates were closely monitored by all the divorcees in their 30s.

It was like clinging to a liferaft with great white sharks circling. Absolutely terrifying

Some great stories from those nights I can't tell on here.

I went to a club, Tiffany's I think, in 1973.

The whole Derby County team was there and they held the Miss Derby County final.

Tiffany's is long gone and has been McClusky's and a Chinese restaurant since then.

Can't remember any groups from then but I recall seeing the Equals about that time.

We used to do Tiffanies and Bailey's regularly, often on the same night..

Thats the one .  I tried it once and as i remember it was full of glass mirrors and there was about 20 people in there.  Was about 26 at the time and decided bar the odd splurge it was time to hang up the spurs.

God I'd absolutely love that.

Slightly off topic before political correctness  ruined the world I was an apprentice at what was then the GPO .We used to go into large factories filled with women .Trust me they were far worse than any group of men could ever be.

We nicked Utd's, #We got,Willie,Willie,Willie,Willie Morgan, on the wing, on the wing, we got Willie,Willie, Willie,Willie Morgan on the wing, Willie, Willie Morgan, Willie Morgan on the wing#. etc.etc. Swapped the 'Morgan' for 'Carlin', and sung to ging, gang, gooley, gooley. Then the song was ours..

I've only been to the Dev once with a recently divorced mate who was indeed on the pull but wanted some company. Told my husband I was going just to be on the safe side.

When I got there the husband of one of the couples we were really good friends with at the time sidled over to me and said "I won't tell on you if you don't tell on me". I later found out he went there every week while his wife thought he was playing snooker. Rat!

Never did tell his wife but it put me off him big time.

P.S.

Didn't they used to call it "grab a granny" night down there?
