The cash in a cup run

Just been looking at what a cup run is worth.

It turns out the FA Cup prize money has been doubled this year.   The winners can expect to net over £7m in prize money alone.  Add to that TV money and crowd revenue.

So far by my calculations the Rams have pulled in about £230,000 from TV broadcasts and £315,000 in prize money.  That all helps towards a new loan signing this week!

If we were to get a win in the 5th round, we'd get another a £360,000 in prize money.  But that would be small fry vs. getting an away tie at Man City.  Our share of crowd receipts from that match would likely total £1.2m or more.

Add the league cup run to it too.

By comparison prize money for the Carabao Cup is pathetic. The winner of the whole competition stands to win 150k. Wow.

The money in that competiton is really about gate receipts and the away ties at ManU and Chelsea should have gained us around £1.5m I reckon.

The money isn't per round, you only get the money once.

So far it's a guaranteed £188k from memory but that'll double approximately if we win in the 5th round.

Two TV games, prize money and ticket revenue we are somewhere 500-600k better off so far.

Third Round Proper winners - £135,000

Fourth Round Proper winners - £180,000

3rd & 4th Round TV - £150,000 each

That will just go towards the upkeep of Anya, Butterfield and Johnsons wages.

Yes indeed Inglorius....well done !!!!

However, we would still be paying their wages even if we had lost at the first hurdle, so be thankful for small mercies eh?

No, it's definitely per round.

It might be small fry but, it would mean progression to the quarter final with the subsequent income. Whereas as away at Man City would almost certainly mean an exit at the 5th round.

Ignore this post, just realised that's what you meant.

So basically we've paid for (delete the ones you don't completely loath) Anya/Butterfield/Johnson/Ledley to sit on their backside for another few months.

Something we would have to do whether we were recieving cup money or not.

Think that money has pretty much covered coles signing who we couldn’t afford before, hence we brought Lowe back initially. Always pays to stay in every competition you can, should be obvious really but it’s clear some teams couldn’t care less.

You could be right. I hope not... but it is feasible sadly.

Not sure why Johnson gets put in that bracket all the time tbh. He actually wants to play football. He's done well this season when he has played. Give him a break

You can see why in the big scheme of things that teams other than the lower echelons are not interested in the FA cup. (Top 6 clubs maybe due to their large squads)

The chance of winning the FA cup against risking injuries and your chances of getting into the BIG money spinners like Europe etc.

Pretty sad to be honest.
