I have heard you all on the layout.

My goal was not to annoy you but improve this forum, clearly it wasn't an improvement. I have reverted it back to a single forum, but I have updated the forum terms of use which you will all be notified of today and included a note at the top of this board.

No politics, religion and sex.

These topics no longer have a place on this forum.

No politics, religion and sex? Dave Allen would be turning in his grave.

Sorry to bore on with this, but I have quite a few words that will feel better off my chest.

I understand the frustration because I also feel it, I would love to not have a single rule on this forum and put trust in the members to not just be able to communicate with each other politely, but to understand that the internet is not outside of the law but that will never happen.

Some members cannot even refrain from circumventing the profanity filter just to squeeze a word in that we all know what it is.

The reason that filter is in place is so that this forum can remain advertiser friendly, this forum costs real money to exist, without those adverts there is no forum. It’s not because of my personal thoughts on profanity, believe me, anyone that is in a group message with me will know that my language is colourful but I can pop a post out without the need to swap a letter with a number just so you know I didn't say poo but s...

There are two rules that exist in the guidelines that are there because that’s how I personally want to run this forum, the rest are either forced by advertising partners or the law.

The two rules are right at the top of prohibited content:

- Personal insults/profanity towards other members, players, staff, media or anyone connected to Derby County Football Club.

And

- Politics, religion and sex discussions.

Without the history lesson, this forum was born through a dislike of how the DET forum was, now some will argue that was a better forum and I can understand that, but for months it had no moderation, none. It was a truly toxic place to visit and one that I lost all interest in going on.

First rule of dcfcfans, no personal insults, simple as that. From day 1 that has been the number one rule and it will never change, not whilst I’m around still.

It has been extended to cover the staff and players of the club and this again was a personal decision, one that from the relationship we have with the club and the opportunities it presents us be it meets down Moor Farm, a seat on the supporters committee and front row seats for members at the fan forum events.

I would like to maintain that healthy relationship with the club long into the future and I believe that fans can voice any criticism of the club, staff or players whilst being respectful at the same time. This was not requested from the club, nor has there been any complaints made regarding any content on this forum.

The second rule being introduced over the last day, no political, religion and sex discussions which I have spoke about the reasoning for in earlier posts, this post is already long enough without repeating it all again. I wish it didn’t need to come to this but I think some members should use this now to take a step back and look at the way they communicate with others online.

Social media is toxic all over, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube is full truly disgusting content that shouldn’t be allowed online, but it is, they have created a beast they can't control, no algorithm will ever be as good as human moderation and even that is not flawless itself as we have shown on this forum but we're not here to create another beast and send it out there into the wild.

We are doing our best here to maintain this little friendly corner on the internet though, allow Derby County fans to come on and voice their opinions on the club in a non hostile environment, if you want no part of that and just want to call people twits from behind your keyboard you are free to leave, in fact you are encouraged to leave. Those that do want to be part of this, the platform we want to give fans voices, help us, as without you all a forum is nothing but a bunch of PHP and Javascript sat on a cloud somewhere in London.

Some will see this as a blah blah blah poor David but I'm certainly not looking for sympathy, just laying it all out there and asking for a little understanding thats all. I don't make decisions to spoil anyones fun nor are they taken lightly, just doing what I think is best for the future of this forum.

One more apology....for the length of this post. I do feel a little better now even if you all strongly disagree with me still.

As you said yourself, it too often resorted to personal insults rather than discussing the subject at hand, the novelty soon wears off when your phone is buzzing at night as mud slinging is taking place in the off topic sections with the same group of members.

Whilst it may appear to be an overreaction on the outside, it's been an extremely difficult time to moderate this forum, one in subject areas that the moderators have become increasingly uncomfortable with.

Warnings have been issued, as have bans, I have even personally spoken privately with groups of members at a time to see if we could come to some truce which resolves the issues for an hour or two before the claws are back out.

We have had a number of accounts closed over the last couple of months, some stating it's due to the levels of toxicity in areas of the forum, members that are not actively involved.

It is, but we're at the point where it's either that or hand out permanent bans, at some point you have to say enough is enough and whilst some may believe we have chose the wrong option I really really don't like removing members, especially when it's in secondary sections as to why we are all here.

In time if we can resume some normality and peace it may be a rule that's lifted, but for now as I say enough is enough. We need to put a stop to it.

Global warming is an environmental issue and one that we would have no issues with unless it moves on to the politicians, then nazi's, white privilege and finishing off with Gammon faces as is often the case.

Maybe it's a topic that could be used as a start to show that discussions can be done sensibly without the mud slinging.

Thanks for the detailed explanation.  I admit have absolutely no idea how much of a headache it must have been to moderate.

I am wondering who would wish to close their accounts because of toxicity in threads that they weren't even actively involved in.  Surely they could just avoid reading those threads, if they found them so unpleasant.

I don't like the change even though the motivation for it is entirely understandable. It will get rid of a lot of good discussions along with the lamentable mud slinging. But it's your forum so it's your rules and there is no doubt that this one of the best football forums around.

However, in view of your explanation, I have even gone so far as to un-ignore the people I had previously had verbal altercations with and zapped for my sanity.

All except that new gump who appeared a few weeks ago. Other than that, it's a clean slate.

Hi Eddie just in case I was one of The ignored.

Mixed feelings about the changes.

I'm relieved the site is no longer a platform for some very prejudiced viewpoints; that had gone way beyond a difference of opinion and crossed the line into what would legally be termed hate speech. I can understand why that was a nightmare to moderate without a team of lawyers.

On the other hand, no discussion of current affairs or issues which affect people's lives feels like a loss to the forum.

Not sure what's meant by no discussion of sex; wasn't aware that anyone was giving us a blow by blow account (can I say that?) Celebrity crushes is still up...

I presume this means gender not intercourse

Please say this is not possible and will never happen. It'd mean I'll have to start talking to the wife again and god forbid I may even have to listen to her.

Its a shame really, I do understand, especially now, that it must be really hard work to moderate.

DCFC is really my only 'social media' platform really and while I enjoy reading and posting about football matters I do also enjoy many of the topics in the pub.

I suppose time will tell where the line is to be drawn, the celebrity crushes one is a good example, if we cant talk about sex are tongue in cheek one liners also banned?

Its a shame too  that if we have a general election or the likes we cant have a civilized discussion about it, but I do agree that topic got taken over and often, just because someones opinion is different then things became personal.

Sex covers a wide range of issues/topics and to be honest we have always had a prohibited content rule in place:

- Pornography, adult or mature content and discussions. This includes any kind of nudity, partial or full.

So no, a cheeky one liner followed by a Ooh Matron meme will not see you get banned, although we or should I say I prefer them to be hidden behind innuendos than graphic one liners which will get hidden.

Boycie strongly disagrees but terms and conditions mean little to him.

This is a public forum and whilst we don’t promote it to younger viewers we are aware that people of all ages view the site which is why that rule is enforced on all sites that use advertising through Google.

Members that have been on the forum for a few years will remember the barmaid. That one image which I posted almost got our advertising pulled and it contained no zero nudity, nothing more than you would see in a home catelogue....in fact you would see more in a Littlewoods than that image.

That one image which became a bit of a meme led to hours of work scrambling all images on the database which is why when you look back at posts from 5 or so years ago links are not working.

As I say though sex is much wider than just sexual intercourse and runs into LGBT and gender discussions which some people have very strong passionate views on, some of which can be seen as offensive, ignorant or at worst hateful to others.

Whilst some will argue this is the perfect platform to air out those views and change attitudes, it really is an area which we do not feel capable with moderating.

Establishing that line of what is acceptable to publicly post is extremely difficult when that line different behind each keyboard and monitor.

I know this will upset some members and that’s not my intention or an indication of my personal views, it’s just an area which we don’t feel capable of moderating.

Apologies for another long post, normal service will be resumed shortly.
