This will be a bitter pill to swallow.

It's the first game of the Premier League season. It's Liverpool at home. It's the chance to make your Premier League debut. To not even make the bench must be a reality check. Of course it is only the first game of the season, but you start as mean to go on, surely?

Being behind Doucoure, Cleverley, Capoue and Chalobah in the pecking order, he must wonder if he'll get a kick. I always said he would be better off staying and getting us over the line and waiting for a better, more established club to put their faith in him.

He must be crushed. But Will is a professional. He will knuckle down and work even harder to prove himself.

Just had a look on the Watford hornets nest forum to see what was being said about this and one of the posters claims it says in the Sun that a big money move for Troy Deeney to Derby is imminent. Don't have a link so didn't post as a separate thread.

Lol Rowett don't spend big move signing tbh.

Pre-season has given the impression he has to play his was way in to the team, and that so far he hasn't shown enough to do that.

Do wonder if they have been tracking him for 3 years if it was a board signing as much as a manager signing.  Could well be abroad this time next season at one of their other projects.

Consensus from Watford fans when signing Hughes was that a few of their midfielders would leave before the season starts though so he may find himself nearer to the team in a few weeks.

This is what was posted in their match thread for today

Reservist

3-2 to the 'orns. Two dramatic late goals from debutant strikers off the bench rescue victory from the jaws of another defeat to Self Pity City.

The Sun snap Troy Deeney looking glum in the stands, and speculate that a big money move to Derby County is imminent.

It's tough at the top and this is a reality check. Look at the players watford have that play the same position and the impact these guys can have on a game.

Will is supremely talented at champ level, but it's a big step up and he's surrounded by players that are now closer to him on a technical level. He's going to have to add more to his game to become first choice. He can do it, but it's not going to be the walk in the park that derby fans thought it would be for him!

i wish him the best of luck.

No chance, absolutely no chance.

Watford rejected 20-odd million pound bids for him in the past, what on earth can we offer? £10m and Championship football, possibly a pay cut?

Again... No chance.

He isn't.

If he wasn't injured he would start ahead of chambolah. Look what happens when he doesn't play for us.

if he's not injured and for some reason isn't even on watfords bench then get will hughes back on loan.

Chalobah & Doucoure are quality and Cleverly is very experienced. Maybe his best chance to break into their side is at CAM?

Not good enough to play there consistently imo. To play there, you need to have a killer instinct and get plenty of goals and assists. Hughes will do neither, he's the type of player to keep the ball moving but if a team wants him to create goals then they're looking at the wrong player.

Not sure why Hughes took this move to be honest. Not even in the match day squad is a disaster for him. I remember it was Barton that told him not to move back in the day and he needs to keep playing. Hope this comes good in the end for him because a year in the stands will be a killer for his career.

Strange move for him then to go there and be 4th choice.

Not sure he is that high, but rumours have it that he doubled his wage to £60,000 a week and if it was me I probably would have done the same - then again it's Watford!
