Crazy list. Middleton and Moreland were both nice guys who would never replace in the fans' affections  the great players of adjacent seasons. Just weren't in the same class.

McGovern - classy footballer who played at the very top of the game for us. Did the hard work and was always under-appreciated.

A small element of Derby fans have always liked to heap derision on a scapegoat of their choice. Cyrus Christie, Kelle Roos, Morgan Whitaker, spring to mind from the recent past.

It says a lot more about those so called fans than it does about the players.

John McGovern is one of my favourite ever players for Derby. Very under-appreciated and as you say, it says far more about the so called fans than it does about the player.

We don't need the money, does he want to go? If he's worth that now he'll be worth more next season and we have little quality defensive youth in the squad.

He's a very good player and hopefully will play a major role in our promotion challenge this season.

He meets all of Paul Warne's requirements (and more) for a first team player.

He has always worked very hard for us and shown the fans that he is a ram and a talented player who would be an asset to any Championship club.

If he wants to leave us and further his career elsewhere, that's his decision, but if we sell him to boost the coffers I will be very disappointed. I go along with your question - does he want to go. If not, keep him! He is a valuable asset.

That's how close it was. I remember feeling the dread of having no club and the morning after David had been appointed I went down to Pride Park and walked round the ground taking in every detail. I had a coffee and a pastry at Greggs. It was all very quiet. I sat outside and just smiled and relaxed and let the tension of the last few weeks disappear. No matter what the future brings for the club, I will always be grateful for what he did for the club. Looking forward to hearing the interview tonight.

I remember that after we went into administration there were still comments from posters questioning whether or not MM was still behind the scene and pulling some strings. Once David had taken over that could never have happened. But perhaps the question had to be asked just to lay the ghost at rest.

  4. Very sad to hear that Didzy has left but it was inevitable and more to do with the chance to return home to the club he loves which gave him his first opportunity to make football his career. He will finish his playing days at the place he started and it is satisfying to see his journey ending back home. Notts see him as a 'talisman' and after watching his interview I'd like to think that there will always be a role for him at the club if he wants it. He has a lot of experience, skill, common sense and wisdom to pass on.

Perhaps he will feel under less pressure next season to play so many games, score so many goals and will be involved in more assists, which given his age should have been the case with us last season.  I wish him nothing but the best and he goes with my thanks for his incredible contribution to our club. Players come and go but for me there will only ever be one Didzy!

Booked a cottage in the Lakes during the Summer hols during covid and had to remortgage the house to pay for it. And it rained for most of the week.

A lodge for 4 in the Lakes is now over £1,000 per week in August. And it rained most of the week!

I am so sorry that I let you all down today and with Jason knight crying his heart out and David magoldic was guttied to he was in tears. And I just feel I let you all down sigh we were so close.😔😢

You have done absolutely nothing wrong at all all season, B4. In fact you have done everything right.  You have supported the lads by travelling all over the place, here there and everywhere and you have made a lively and entertaining contribution to the forum keeping our spirits up as you so often do. There is nothing you could possibly have done to influence the final result and we are all just as gutted.

At the moment it hurts like hell but give us a few days and we dry our tears, dust ourselves down and we go again next season supporting our lads.

Keep on shining brightly, B4. Have a wonderful summer with your family. 😊🐏

It’s pretty standard practice that if you’re working away from home, you expense your meals while you’re away. And there were presumably multiple members of staff, having multiple meals a day for at least a couple of months at the beginning.  That all adds up pretty quickly.  It’s not just food either, it’s labelled Subsistence, which probably covers a bunch more stuff.

You can argue if they should do it or not, but if you start refusing what are considered normal perks of the job, you’re just restricting the pool of willing administrators even more (when it was apparently pretty small to start with).

As far as I know, Quantuma can take it to court if they reject, with the risk that creditors end up losing even more, with legal fees being spent fighting it.

But it should be only up to a moderate limit. After all, most of us have always taken our lunch into work with us and then had an inexpensive meal in the evening. We all have to work to a budget and quantuma should have been no different. I'd dearly like to see a breakdown of their meal expenses.

Tuck themselves away in the bad weather as well to give you a taste of what life is like without them.  The bamfords of the weed world.  Councils never pick up the cuttings properly or clear road verges now to give them a head start.  Dandelions on steroids.

I used to dislike dandelions as well until I found out that they provide much needed pollen for early emerging bees at a time before summer flowers have started to bloom and so support the bee population. I read last week that the government have given the go ahead for continued use of certain pesticides on crops which kill bees as well as 'pests' so I guess these dandelions are doing their bit to support a very necessary eco-system without which humans might not survive. 20 years ago I would have banished them from my garden, but now we leave them.

It annoys me that for some weird reason, in this country we seem to use both! We don't measure anything at work in imperial. Whether it's something 17 metres in length, or I'm filing something to change it by 0.10 of a millimetre. So why do we still use miles? Maybe couldn't afford to change all the distance signs 😀.

I'm old, but I haven't a clue what I weigh in stones. I only use KGs. Yet if asked about height, I'm six foot one. I buy petrol by the litre. Then people use MPG. Why?

I don't really mind which system we use, but I've never understood why we seem to try and use both.

I agree, @ketteringram! It is confusing and strange. I taught my pupils metric maths whilst still using imperial myself. Very quirky!

    Loose tea

Struggling to start a fire in the hearth on a freezing winter morning (bet the Florist chairman has some sound advice)

Chimney fires. We had a really difficult bend in ours where soot accumulated.

Mum and dad used to put an old kettle on the fire for tea and coffee. It was black on the outside and full of loose limescale on the inside. To this day I will only drink two thirds of a mug of coffee to avoid any potential detritus at the bottom!!

I miss sitting in my office just being able to read my articles and write up my thoughts knowing that the future was at least 3 years off.

I miss going to the cinema at 10.00pm after staying late at the office and spending a fiver for my entertainment.

I miss regularly seeing my friends without feeling guilty for not doing something i should have off my list.

I miss not feeling under immense pressure and strain almost every hour I'm not sleeping.

Take care, @Leeds Ram and I really hope you feel better soon. 2010 and I was in your position more or less. It was only a visit to the doctor that saved me. Hope that you find a route that makes you feel much better. PM me if you need a chat!!

    my grandparents' outside toilet

My grandad had an outside toilet and I was puzzled because there was no flush mechanism. It turned out that you had to take a bucket of water with you. There was a makers mark on the toilet which said 'The Parthenon' Very grand. There were lots of cobwebs and invertebrates in the closet. It was out of use by the time I discovered it and I found it rather spooky.

Little did we know it would get even worse though

Speaking of sharing bathwater, Sage, my mum and dad were married in 1952 and went to live with my dad's parents for the first two years of their married life.  My grandad was the caretaker of the local primary school and brought the roller towels from the toilets home for my grandma to wash and iron. My mum was horrified to find that the water for her tin bath in the kitchen was the same water that Grandma had boiled the school towels in.
