Ramifications reacted to Carl Sagan in Sheffield Wednesday (A) Sun 7th May, 12:00 KO
Went back through the key moment in the thread for the first time, and can't believe there wasn't more discussion around this first substitution. Warne made two terrible substitutions in the game. We needed a goal, but even before getting in at half-time and regrouping, he took off one of his likely scorers/creators in Sibley. Absolute madness. If he needed Smith on it had to be Bird off. I can't fathom his thought processes.
Then, late in the game, Harvey White was brought on when he had no right to be on the pitch and was absolute garbage. What has he done to earn that opportunity? This "set piece expert's" sole contribution was to squander two freekicks in good positions. Play the people who work for the club and have a stake in the match.
Then, I cannot believe the people on here claiming it was a penalty. Seriously? On first viewing it was an obvious dive. You all need to take a long hard look at yourselves. Why would anyone be so eager to justify the referee making a clear and obvious error in the biggest match of his sorry life? To give a penalty the referee should always be sure, but here he was guessing, as he couldn't have seen a foul because there wasn't one. To give a penalty in a game of this magnitude, which could be worth so many millions of pounds, he had to be really, really, really sure. He cannot have been. Sadly, we all know there will be no sanction.
Very hard to know where we go from here in terms of next season. We lost out on the playoffs because we've been seriously done over by incompetent refs all season (no it doesn't even out), because of our profligacy and carelessness in front of goal, and stupid losses of concentration at the back. Whoever we manage to cobble together to form a team next campaign, with all the restrictions, they have to have it drilled into them that every single game is important, from first to last and in between. Here we see Wednesday only making the playoffs with 96 points. If we're to go up in 2024 we need to start brilliantly and continue brilliantly.

One of the many very annoying things about yesterday was that in the two games against Wednesday this season although they just beat us on aggregate, (0-0 at PPS and 1-0 yesterday) we were the better teams in both games. The ref made a double howler first in awarding the penalty and secondly in the sending off. Without that I think we would have won yesterday and probably beaten Wednesday in the play offs too.
Yet another chapter in the long story of near misses over the last 10 years.

Ramifications reacted to May Contain Nuts in Sheffield Wednesday (A) Sun 7th May, 12:00 KO
Depends on the expectations of the fans, owner, and what the manager believes he's walking into vs the reality.
The end-days of Rowett - told that he'd need to focus on the youth team, budgets would be cut... jumps ship. Most people don't remember him fondly at all.
Lampard - a 180 by Morris and he's given whatever he wanted. carried through the season by the class of Tomori, Mount & Wilson. Some awful management at times, but mostly forgotten because of Leeds away in the playoffs. Expectations of promotion not quite met, especially in hindsight.
Cocu - Season 1 - Expectations are top 6 again, pick up from where Lampard left off. However he doesn't get a proper pre-season with the squad due to Lampard pissing about. he takes over a squad with the 3 best players removed and the demands from above are to integrate as many academy players into the first team as possible. He is backed in the transfer market, with the fee for Bielik being particularly egregious but our record signing goes on to get injured for a long spell (rug pull 1). He then has to deal with Joiners Gate (rug pull 2) and the loss of the club captain and defensive staple (one we'd built a lot of our play around the passing abilities of). Further to that there's a global pandemic (rug pull 3) which removes fans from the stadium. A good run in the second half of the season sees us potentially pushing for a play-off spot but we fall away. He's bedded in the youngsters well, with some of their performances being better during that spell than anything they've produced since.
Of course this isn't good enough for certain people, who've been criticising him from the moment he walked through the door because they don't like his style of play. Every single opportunity 'certain posters' got to say that they weren't a fan was taken. His interviews are mocked by people because of his manner of speaking. He's just too Dutch.
Season 2 - Same again, play-offs expected, but the cracks in Morris' ownership were really starting to show by this point. The loss of another vital player for the way we want to play (Martin, who chose to leave... rug pull 4) isn't covered by an incoming striker despite promises from above (although we did sign Jozwiak as Mad Mel's final flourish, without an adequate striker to play off it was a pointless signing). We start the season with all of our senior attacking options out injured (rug 5) and by the time they returned (and by the time CKR was up to speed) it had all become a bit of a nightmare.
Eventually yes, Cocu has to go. there's no other option. However ZERO f**** are given by about any of the above by those who now bleat on about the difficulties Warne faces.
Rooney - Season 1, takes over a team in terrible form, expectations have dropped to hopefully finishing lower to mid table. Benefits from CKR gaining fitness and an incredible run of form from Bielik before his last big injury, pretty much kept up by that in all honesty. Season 2 he knows from the start that we have boardroom difficulties, are under investigation with the potential for points penalties etc, there's not even an expectation that we stay up so he has carte blanche to manage almost without judgement.
He still has a number rugs pulled out from under him and he deals with it (with the assistance of Rosenior) admirably, but it was a It's a no-lose situation for him in all honesty. Disproportionately praised for his efforts (lets build him a statue!) with Rosenior's role overlooked when it comes to talking about the positives.
Rosenior - Starts almost from scratch. Given a rebuilding job, gets 9 league games. Builds a good team very quickly and does well enough managing it for the brief spell he was allowed to but ultimately gets replaced. Eternally slagged off for his play style and his positive results dismissed because we sometimes won without playing all that well. Negative results picked apart and blamed on his football rather than the situation he's working in, for which very few f**** are given by certain posters. Negative results from his time working with Rooney attached solely to him, ignoring the positives.
Warne - takes over a squad expected to be top six in League One (the lowest quality of opposition we've played across a season in 35+ years) and has the resources to finish there but there's not any real pressure to do so because fans remember where we were over the summer. He doesn't have any major injuries to deal with, no off-field controversies - he can just get on with the job he's been brought in to do. Negative results excused because it's not his squad, nothing he could do differently etc, and the unbeaten run (which wasn't actually all-that impressive points wise) being pointed to as some sort of miraculous achievement that proves him beyond question, anybody doubting him is anti-warne and should be called out for it.

Ramifications reacted to Caerphilly Ram in Derby County - (Ridiculously) Early Thoughts on 2023/24
I’d like to think the staff at the club will process this disappointment promptly and move onto preparing for next season. My preferred list of priorities as of today would be something like;
1) Knowing which league we’re in next season and the financial situation that the senior figures at the club will speak with the EFL as soon as possible to agree whatever amendments they can to the business plan.
2) Get on with shaping the squad part 1 - extend the contracts of those who Warne wants to stay and confirm the departures of whoever is leaving on a free. I suspect we’ll try to re-sign McGoldrick and maybe Forsyth, can see Stearman retiring as a player, Curtis moving on either retiring or a season at Leyton Orient. We may end up selling one, some or all of Knight, Sibley, Bird, Cashin… provided there is interest in them and I fully expect Bielik will go.
3) Get on with shaping the squad part 2 - Sign Roberts and McGee on frees. Roberts has done well and is a good option (provided Brighton don’t offer an extension and he wants to stay). McGee hasn’t had much to do but based on his performances for FGR he is capable at this level and an able deputy for Wildsmith, gives some continuity in that position and would be relatively cheap wages I suspect.
4) Get on with shaping the squad part 3 - We’re led to believe from comments in the DET that some conversations about recruitment have already been happening with agents invited to attend training, let’s get some of those deals (whoever they are) over the line nice and early.
5) Season tickets and that
6) Sexy new kit announced
7) pre season tour of South Wales taking in Newport, Cardiff and Swansea for my own personal convenience.
That’s all I’ve got so far

Today's consequences were hugely disproportionate to Curtis' "crime", if indeed any crime was committed - which is debatable. I will always be appreciative of his professionalism and absolute class as a man in our recent troubled times.
Sir, I doff my cap to you and wish you the very best for your future. I would have no problem with you being a part of our squad next season. A classy individual.
-
Ramifications reacted to Miggins in I am so sorry guys total guttied
You have done absolutely nothing wrong at all all season, B4. In fact you have done everything right. You have supported the lads by travelling all over the place, here there and everywhere and you have made a lively and entertaining contribution to the forum keeping our spirits up as you so often do. There is nothing you could possibly have done to influence the final result and we are all just as gutted.
At the moment it hurts like hell but give us a few days and we dry our tears, dust ourselves down and we go again next season supporting our lads.
Keep on shining brightly, B4. Have a wonderful summer with your family. 😊🐏

Ramifications reacted to Jourdan in Curtis
An absolute class act.
I hope he doesn’t get the Keogh or Roos treatment.
Some players just pass through, but he has really taken the club to heart. Let’s not forget how thrilled we were to see him sign a new contract last summer. He has built up that kind of connection with the club.
This season probably hasn’t gone as he would have expected, and today’s minute of madness probably underlined that.
But that doesn’t diminish years of great service. I hope he stays in the fold in some capacity. If not, he goes with nothing but complete respect and well wishes.

Ramifications reacted to Warren Blufitt in Sheffield Wednesday (A) Sun 7th May, 12:00 KO
Unlucky guys, I genuinely couldn’t see you slipping up but sadly that’s how it goes. Hopefully Posh can do Wednesday now and if we do similar to Barnsley we won’t have to worry about the hoardes of Rams or Owls fans we’d face at Wembley because I don’t think many Wanderers fans can afford two trips to Wembley in one season. For what it’s worth it may not be a hardship for you leaving it another year to get up. You were limited in the players you could sign and late in the season it’s showed but give Warne a chance to build and you’ll certainly be pushing for the automatics next season and with a much stronger situation behind you. We’re also being pretty pragmatic about the play offs and it may also be a year early for us too so we may be challenging again next year also. Not much coming down so if it is Wendies going up it’s all to play for for both of us. Hopefully we’ll make it, on our day we can beat any of the others so we’ll just wait and see. Sorry you missed out this time but best of luck for next year, you’re far too big a club to be kicking round this level. 😉

Another half of football that completely sums up our whole season. Enough chances to score 3 goals, 'gamesmanship' from the opposition and a highly dodgy refereeing decision. We shouldn't be behind on so many counts.
Let's hope they can use that as motivation to stick it to them second half...

Warne needs to have a think and maybe restructure at half time. Possibly stick Dobbin on for NML and play to make the most of his pace on the counter.
