I didn’t see it like that at all.

Mostly because I didn’t go to the game and I couldn’t get bloody Rams TV to work.

I don’t think you’ll see much change. Wayne Rooneys long term interest will be the same as every other ambitious person in any walk of life….himself.
So going out gung ho with experimental sides and young kids getting spanked every week will not be part of the plan (not to mention I think he has too much consideration towards those young players than to subject them to that anyway).
His aim now will be to be able to point to a points total that without the deductions would’ve kept Derby in the Championship. With all the background noise that in itself would be a major achievement and one that will help him when he eventually does look to move on and upwards as a manager.

It’s believe it’s mandatory to offer a player (post school scholarship ie 16-18) coming in from another country a three year deal.

It states that the squad size / incomings etc are as of the date of the agreement.
My understanding of that is if current players ie Cashin Hutchinson Watson Stretton etc accrue 3 appearances after that date then that is fine.

Can someone put on a list of permitted players as it stands?
I make it a current squad of 26 but with :-
    Brown
    McDonald
    Esobele
    Williams
    Watson
    Hutchinson
    Stretton
who won’t now count towards the squad size having not started 3 games at championship level or above. Is that corrrect?

Wasn’t sure of McDonald / Esobele / Watson.

League 1 is brutal. As a level it has improved and clubs in it have refined their styles and become far more technical to an extent however the overriding requirement to be successful in it is physicality.
Its not so much that to be successful you have to play a more direct game but it’s how you deal with playing against those sides that do.
In possession you can have your own style of course and more and more sides are trying to be a little more attractive but the majority of them still rely of percentages and physicality so in order to play “your style” you still have to compete to win the ball back and so your requirements out of possession change completely.
In the Championship players and teams place a heavy reliance on defending tactically. Shape, pressing triggers, interceptions and game reading. It’s how players like Max Bird survive defensively in those deeper positions. Of course there is a need to be able to head it and tackle but it’s more more likely to be around your box and dealt with by defenders and Gk.
In league 1 it’s everywhere. All areas of the pitch and all players are needed to show a level of proficiency in the more ‘gritty’ side of the game. Opposition gk kick it more regularly, defenders clear it even when they could play out. Midfielders hook it on. The game is about playing for position not possession.
While I don’t doubt the technical abilities of many of our players to play pro football…even championship football, if anyone thinks it’s those talents that will get us promoted or see those players tear up the league they are sadly mistaken.
Rotherham are a prime example of showing the differences. In the Championship they were found wanting in the technical department. They had good players, were well organised, had a game plan and gave most teams a battle. But they were lacking that little bit of quality or class that makes a difference against players and teams of that level. In league 1 they are now 13 unbeaten and challenging right at the top of the division. They compete all over the pitch. Players are big strong and quick. They get the ball into the box at every opportunity and give teams hell. Of course they have good players and a good manager but it does demonstrate what is required to be successful in that league.

Bournemouth cheated their way up with Russian money. How any club with a stadium that barely holds 12k is even in the championship I don't know! They were lucky that they got that promotion otherwise they'd have been looking at some serious problems with the FL.

He’s done ok. Relative to expectation. He was ruthlessly exposed by Salford for 30 minutes and to his credit settled and improved. At Sheffield United he he did ok but nothing more. Against West Brom he / we were pinned back into a complete back 5 and defended for our lives for most of the game. Last ditch defending by everyone (to their credit) but very little opportunity to do anything other than make clearances and blocks. But I agree if it becomes a back 5 in any game and he has senior defenders talking him through it then fine…if Buchanan and Fozzie are unavailable. Williams has potential but he’s not ahead of either just yet.
So you’d replace Buchanan and / or Fozzie with 18 yr old Williams due to them being poor lately but opt to play Buchanan as a centre back instead of a centre back who’s been reliable and solid every time he’s played?
The important ones like goals and chances created. Not sideways passes in his own half.

We were 3-0 up before their man was sent off. Well deserved, ruthless finishing. They had chances, their number 11 very swift on break, and McDonald got caught out a time or two. Their finishing was weaker than ours, though and the extra man was bound to help us.
Watson was everywhere, always tries to play the positive ball, not quite all of them came off but many did. I thought Dixon had a great first half, Thompson running the game. Isaac Hutchinson started slowly, looked a bit rusty as would be expected but I thought he got stronger as game went on. Reece Hutchinson looked good, too. Very direct, good on overlap and played some great balls in to feet. Young journalist who was there said came recommended to us by Bucko.
Cashin didn't have a lot to do because nearly all their attacks came down their left but he mopped up all the breaks with aplomb and played the ball out well. Of course it was his bullet header that started off the scoring. Great ball in from Thompson, but he really attacked it.

Chances created is okay, it's basically just a pass that ends in a shot. Best one readily available in the Championship is xA (expected assists) as it also measures the quality of the chance created. xT (expected threat) is also decent but it's not available for the Championship.

I said weeks ago that it wouldn’t be until the results became a little less positive that the adrenalin effect would wear off and we’d start to see the fatigue that has accumulated in so many players who have been asked to play almost every game.
My opinion is despite the thin squad there could have been several options for a considered rotation policy that could have just eased this a little. Not all at once but drip fed along.
For example, Stearman has been grossly underused. He could easily have stepped in to replace / rest Jagielka or Davies and he could also have been used as a third CB to allow cover / rest for the full backs. The same reasoning could be used for drip feeding several other younger players in at various times to rest or rotate Lawrence / Morrison neither of whom are irreplaceable. Byrne and Festy could be the same.
I know the squads small and we’d have needed to ride out luck a little but if we’d been clever the massively over used players could have taken breaks with very little effect on immediate performance.
The next few weeks could see an increase in poor performance and injuries.
