My thread on the subject has been locked, so thought this thread better than starting a new one...

How did things go, with regards to covid passes, and getting in?  Not seen any whinging, so assume all went smoothly?  Was there a hi-viz ring around the perimeter, or straight up to the turnstiles as normal?  Any delays, or missing kick off due to delays at the gates?  Did everyone arrive early just in case?

I had to miss out due to hospital visiting, and watched from home, so just wondered what folks' experiences were, once they got to the ground?

    ?

Just showed my nhs paper passport, straight through no hassle at all.

The praise Wayne Rooney is receiving is similar to that of Nigel Clough in the early years.

Steadying a ship, making us harder to beat, uniting everyone together.

We won’t know what the future holds. Nigel Clough built an excellent squad but he couldn’t coach them as well as McClaren. Could Rooney build a similar squad given the finances? Could he coach them as well as McClaren?

I’m open to the line of ‘time will tell’ but he needs to a huge wage cut to be in line with that of a League One manager. He doesn’t deserve more just because his name is Rooney.

I also have to question the praise for Rooney for sticking it out. It’s laughable.

I’m sure any first-time manager would gladly stick it out earning over £50k a week and being unsackable. If his name was Wayne Smith and he was a former PE teacher you’d say he’d hit the jackpot. But because his name is Wayne Rooney and he’s a former England and Man Utd superstar he is being looked at like he is doing us a favor. It’s ludicrous.

Would love to know how you know what rooney is being paid, have you seen his payslip?

If the club survives I think Rooney has the potential to be the most influential Derby manager of my lifetime (I should mention I'm only 24 before you start twatting the keyboard). Even if this is his last season with us, the siege mentality he's created could have a lasting effect on the club.

I'm particularly thinking about the relationship between the club and the fans when I say this. I'll leave the tactical stuff to our resident football geniuses.

I hate Leeds and their fans as much as the next Ram but the relationship they have with their teams is almost second to none. They went to hell and back but on their way down the divisions they gained a siege mentality. They have a bravado/arrogance to their fanbase that can seem distasteful to the outside but is incredibly galvanising for the players/staff. They also don't boo them.

Pride Park is different this season, the fans still showing up are generating the best atmosphere I've been a part of and there's 10,000 less of us. If we keep that, a club the size of ours will be successful without having to chuck too much money around.

If we're getting results now with washed up free agents, academy players and 39 year old CB's, imagine what it's going to be like when we have a decent team again. The supporters getting an extra 10/20% out of the players will only get us so far and affect the table so much now but if we'd had more of that in those season's with promotion potential (13/14, 14/15, 15/16, 17/18, 18/19) maybe we wouldn't be in this mess.

I don't take what Rooney's doing this year for granted, under the leadership of a lesser man the atmosphere could be utterly toxic the way it has been in recent tough periods. No offence to a great servant to the club but imagine if Darren Wassall was in charge of this team! Rooney's got this hopeless team in a hopeless situation playing with more guts than anyone else, if he wasn't doing that we'd be gaining nothing from our fall.

Maybe Rooney isn't a tactical mastermind but he's used what he has got to keep everyone's heads up; despite everything going on we feel like a "big club".

I'm an optimist but I'm hoping we'll look back at the Rooney years as the period in which our support went from quite good to up there with the best in the country. That's something that will attract players, get us results we don't deserve and make the experience of watching Derby simply more fun, even if we're poo.

Agree, watching the rams this season has been more enjoyable than the last few seasons, all down to the atmosphere and the teams we are not down yet mentality which is all down to rooney.

I'd of thought with his connections that man u and Everton would have been sending us academy players for free!

As I say,his name in reality doesn't mean that much over any other champ manager,he just hasn't got the credentials in coaching, yet, that more experienced managers such as Mac utilised to attract talent in.

How come if maclaren is so good no other teams want him as manager. Hes made enough money out of us to be able to live comfortly jobless.

Can't say I'm gutted it didn't work out with Kirchner, wary of someone so keen to be in the spotlight and figured there was a tactical reason for drumming up public support. Looks like he maybe didn't have the cash some of these others do and with such a glaringly attention seeking/inexperienced figurehead it would have felt like Groundhog Day until he proved the doubters wrong.

Anyone looking to take over now will do well to keep their mouth shut and stick to the background, I know I've had enough PR stunts for a lifetime. Quite enjoyed the fan forums at the time but they make me feel queasy now. So much ******** for an optimistic/naive fan can lap up.

Christmas is well and truly over, no more ducking messiah's thanks.

No doubt Kirchner's spot on about Mel though, even if it was unprofessional to say that. Grateful to have his party interested (any party for that matter) but fingers crossed the administrators know what they're doing.

If it is Sam Rush and friends, as some are suggesting, I'm very interested to see if we ever get his side of the story with Mel. My gut instinct Rush's probably not the villain I thought he was but just as complicit in some of the reckless overspending. The hideous clause in George Thorne's contract and a whole load of other poo was all on his watch.

He still has that dead, glassy eyed smile too which is as big of a red flag as going after Forest fans on twitter. I wouldn't trust Sam Rush to help me get the shopping in when he's doing that "smile", let alone run the club.

    My feelings as well.

Content with this, this is what I heard earlier from a pal of mine.

Jez Moxey (********) working with Appleby and Rush (common knowledge) with the backer being David Tepper.

Obviously Percy and whoever else have already confirmed Moxey, Appleby and Rush but does make sense with David Tepper.

Undecided on it personally, the state of the finances when Appleby buggered off wasn’t exactly, well, good.

I woudnt be happy with this lot, but at the end of the day beggars cant be chooses if its them or liquidation.

Sam Rush was the highest paid CEO in the championship, and Mel trusted him and his knowledge and experience in football to run the club, sadley he let him down, buying 8 or 10( could be more) sub standard players on 4 or 5 year contracts on £20,000 a week wages make no mistake Mel made a total mess of the club however Rush was not far behind.

Rush players what have they gone on to achieve since leaving Derby?

Agree, never liked rush always seemed dodgy to me perhaps it was just the way he came across.

The concerning thing is, with this spreading so fast, it has more opportunities to mutate again, then it could mutate into something that’s as contagious as omicron, but as dangerous as deadly.

The only way to stop variants evolving is to stop the opportunities for the virus to reproduce.

we’re fighting a war here. You could almost imagine, if the virus was sentient, it’s tactic now would be to take a form that we can just about find acceptable to live with. Now it would be nice to think we’d all live happily ever after and coexist with a bit of compromise on both sides. I’ll be less deadly, says Corona, if you be less hygienic and allow me to spread more. But it’s more likely that this compromise will end in tears, the virus attacking our weakness as we let our guard drop. The only way to win this war is to wipe the virus out, or as close as we can get, like we did with small pox, measles etc. and the only weapon that works in that kind of war is a vaccine for everyone.

We’re not safe until everyone’s safe.

Its a different virus to smallpox etc, weve not wiped flu out, i agree the only way to control it is mass vaccination, but sadly thats not going to happen.

After fighting for 3 years to have Cloughie reinstated find it hard to give Dave Mackay any credit, for the players were close to going on strike for how high they regarded Clough, then Mackay took the job moving from Forest, what a signing Hector was, I was 14 when Tim Ward was sacked, and the young wipersnapper came along and we were 5th from bottom of the old 2nd division.

Ilkleyram sounds like you were around in those fantastic Cloughie days, and for all those young rams hope those days come back where they are top of the table again, surely at some stage Derby will stop pressing the self destruct button for it as gone on far to long.

Agree, hope the young fans see what we saw, first division champions twice, plus england winning the worl cup. Great times.

Surely you have got to take into account what divisions they were managers in. Everybody knows it's harder to win games in the prem.

Not too sure if that’s sufficient to be honest, but if you’ve got a smart phone then I’d say to just download the nhs app and get the digital one. You only need to know your name, DOB and address to generate it and you can add it to your phones ‘wallet’ so it’s easily accessible.

Thanks, but dont take my phone to the match, im not one of those people where it is stuck to their hand? if dont get in with the paper one will be getting in touch with my mp. They have got to realise some older people don't do technology.
